Wonderful location on one of the most beautiful beach

The hotel needs updating for window ( without mosquitoes nets) and mattress.

Excellent restaurant thanks to Michele

A sweet gem of a hotel, for many of the positive reasons noted in other reviews: beautiful scenery, chill atmosphere, sublime constant ocean roar, lots of shady spots, generous and tasty inclusive breakfast offerings, delicious food and great drinks available from early morning until late at night, highly responsive concierge through WhatsApp or in person. The restaurant waitstaff seemed professional and appropriate, rather than overly obsequious (a quality that has bothered me in some other places). And the dogs who roamed around seemed like the happiest canines on earth! 

For what it’s worth, I also wish a few things could have been better, but none are significant enough to have kept us away (although I describe more significant concerns below). First, as mentioned in some other reviews, the music from the restaurant/bar permeates the whole place, which felt fun and inviting at the beginning, but got repetitive and intrusive as the days wore on. But it was helpful when the playlist changed from resort-type music (covers were fun at first, but exhausting on continual repeat!), to more regional and other sounds. So if the music has to stay on, it could be courteous to the guests to mix it up more often! Other suggested tweaks: nightlights to offset lack of bathroom doors (at least in our room); washcloths and not just towels. 

A more signification concern, although likely to affect only a small number of people: I was drawn to this area because of the paved walkway very close to the ocean. Worth the trip for me, because I have mobility problems that limit my ability to get close to the beach and sea. Indeed, the paved walkway was amazing! But when I booked the reservation I was told I was being given a wheelchair accessible room. It wasn’t even close! There was a step up to the entrance of our room, and no bars in the shower or bathroom. Some of the paved areas were uneven, although negotiable overall. No obligation of the hotel to provide these amenities if they don’t want to do so, but they should be clear about what they offer. On the other hand, it would be great if they could add some bars in the bathroom, fix some of the broken pavement, and figure out room access without a step. The restaurant area also includes some steps, but the waitstaff could probably help in this regard.

A gem of a hotel in many (but not all) ways

The staff is lovely and helpful, the food absolutely scrumptious.  A drawback for me was there was no pool though I should hardly complain since the beach was magnificent.  Another, was getting anywhere other than the hotel was costly, which may be true of wherever you stay.  DR is a small island but distances between places can be quite larg. and therefore costly.  All the more reason to plan you stay carefully so that you make good use of where you are going.
Also, other than being in your room or at the beach or the bar, there isn't anywhere to be so it can feel  a little close and why you need to make sure that your tours are planned for, especially since they can become quite filled up in season.
All the same, it's lovely to have a balcony to sit on and enjoy the incredible beauty of the place and around you.



charming small hotel for people who don't need the hustle and bustle.

The staff at mosquito boutique bar and restaurant are absolute gems. The hospitality shown to us over our week long stay was second to none. We ate or drank there at least once every day. Never had one bad meal or slow service. We were with a large crowd, and they never once slowed down. In fact they went above and beyond in making our trip magical. We will never forget Carlos, Alex, Starlin, Joan, Jesus, Martin, and the  many others that took great care of us! 

Superior Service

The hotel is a clean boutique hotel. I love the fact that it’s small enough that i walk out of my room and the beach is right there. The restaurant/bar is very nice. The food offered is very good and the drinks are great. The hotel is gated with security and a private free parking lot.

Some minor things but it won’t prevent me from staying at the hotel again: 1) the bathroom lacks lighting; 2) no television in the room - at the end of the day I like to relax watching tv; and 3) the beach is too rough. unless you are a surfer, you can’t swim in it. We did walked further down the beach about half a mile and that area was calmed. We ended up walking there everyday to spend time in the water.

We are not sure if it was due because it was not peak season, but the nightlife was quite. If you want to dance you need to go to town - a 10 minute drive.

Dreamy hotel in Las Terrenas

This hotel is the happiest place on this stretch of the beach. The waves are strong here but there are gentler areas to go swimming close by.  Staff are always cheerful and ready to accommodate your needs. The food is delicious. The bar staff keep the beer cold and the service quick. Grounds are swept daily and the beach is very clean. Rooms are cleaned daily.  Rooms are simple, clean, spacious with beautiful sea views. There is also a surf school on site. The hotel is charming. Providing additional shaded areas would make it even more so. Great value and family friendly!

Friendly hotel on the beach

Bohemian vibes with basic rooms.  Rooms have no TV or coffee machine but bed is comfortable.  There is also a refrigerator and safe.   The biggest problem is the very poor WiFi which is unacceptable for 2023.  We had to go to town to get new SIM cards.  Reason why I took a star away.  Breakfast is excellent but does not include espresso and the coffee is not always drinkable. 

Restaurant serves excellent food and drinks albeit at high prices.  No small store around so feeling isolated.   

Water is not safe for swimming (strong undertow) unless you are at end of bay.  It is a surfing mecca and hence why there is a Carolina Surf School on the property.  Grounds are impeccably clean.  There appears to be a full time sweeper.  Chairs by beach are sometimes hard to find since not assigned by room.  Many outsiders come to spend the day.

Was concerned about noise level from restaurant/bar but that is not a problem - the construction next door is more of an issue but we paid all upfront (not how it works in North America ie pay at check out) so here we are.

Room was clean and very comfortable, check in was friendly. Food at restaurant was exceptional though pricey.  Breakfast was included and buffet was really good. Good strong coffee.
Needs better coffee machines in room, drinking water available everywhere. Wifi good.
Downside was the noise, too many people on the grounds, DJ or restaurant music pumping over the sounds of the waves.  A real shame.
Luckily thunder storm dispersed crowd and next day was peaceful.

Beautiful spot on the beach but...

It's unusual to stumble across such a fabulously stylish and welcoming gem in such a wonderful location. 

The whole 'barefoot chic' thing that duo many hotels try to achieve could learn a lot from the Mosquito hotel. I've been lucky enough to travel globally, and struggle to think of somewhere so instantly warming to the soul. 

I visited for lunch, continued my journey after for 4 hours, wondered why I didn't stay longer, so turned round and drove back and am so glad I did. 

The fabulous team are really friendly and I met Olivia, one of the owners who was also really welcoming. 

It's obvious there's a whole lotta love that's gone into this place making it so so seamlessly chic without any pretentiousness. 

The views are specatular, right on a great little surf break in gorgeous Playa Bonita, the beds a v comfy, breakfast isa delicious as are the many dinner options (loved the fish curry!) an overall winner. 

It's not a case of if, but when I'll be back for longer. 

Can't recommend it enough - just book it!

Wonderful hotel in such a beautiful location - just book it!

We stayed in one of the condo complexes in Playa Bonita and came here for drinks (and got to use their beachfront sun loungers) and lunch,
The place is always full and lively, so it's a good idea to reserve a table.
The drinks were top and lunch was very good. From their extensive menu, most of us had seafood soup with rice while the others had pizzas and a burger.
The service was prompt and attentive and the price was reasonable for a resort-beachfront location.
