Apartments Klaić

We booked this hotel through booking.com, after Nada's house, Mlini, refused to honour our original booking. I wouldn't recommend booking.com for booking this, as we've had all sorts of issues with them, they agreed to refund us the difference in price within 7 days of returning, has now been 2 weeks and not a peep from them despite several attempts to contact their customer service. However this place is fantastic, I can't praise them enough. I always think people make your holiday and the owners of Klaic are a lovely family who couldn't do enough for us. Location The place itself is lovely, the views from the balcony are spectacular and it is not far from shops, several beaches, restaurants and bars, although the climb back up is somewhat steep. Mlini has a number of beaches, one of which is a bit further away but is right in front of some abandoned buildings from the war, after looting and falling generally into disrepair, it is an interesting experience to go and look at. Owners The owners arranged pick up from the airport and when we arrived at the apartments they had placed some complimentary cherry brandy and grappa (be aware, this stuff is lethal) in our room. Meri then took us through some of the day trips in the area, places to eat in Mlini and Dubrovnik including costs and buses, local taxi numbers, everything we could need. The family seemed always on hand for advice if you needed it. The also arranged our trip to Kotor at similar value to the companies in Dubrovnik, but for our party of 5 only, with a driver who would adapt to what we wanted. Apartments The apartments were very well kept, with an impressive array of kitchen utensils facilities for a holiday accommodation. There was hot water in all three of the showers. There is also a large barbecue outside that's free to use. When we used this, the owner came out and helped out, eventually taking over, he is quite an impressive sight with a barbecue, having done some chef work, so this was a definite bonus! Excursions Meri will go through some of the options with you for excursions from Mlini. However I'll just mention the ones we did. Dubrovnik is a must and is easily accessible by bus which runs every half hour for 15 kuna. This is the setting for King's Landing in Game of Thrones but is a lovely old town, we were also lucky enough to be there for the opening ceremony of one of their festivals which included fireworks over the bay. Out of Dubrovnik you can get the boat to Lokrum for 60 kuna return, it is a lovely island famous for the abundance of peacocks and great views of Dubrovnik. Cavtat is also a nice place just down the coast in the opposite direction to Dubrovnik, slightly less impressive than Dubrovnik, but is an excellent place for some good food by the harbour. Montenegro and Kotor Bay are definitely worth a visit, Meri can arrange this with the company in Mlini or you can go talk to them yourselves. Kotor bay is simply stunning, sit on the right hand side for the best views of the bay, also remember to ask the driver to stop regular for photo opportunities. The first town you tend to visit on this trip is Kotor, which is an old town with lots of character (some very interesting works of art). The second town is Buddva, Buddva looked nice but had lost some of its character through tourism, becoming more of a haven for shopping, something that didn't appeal as much to us. In retrospect we'd have spent more time in Kotor than Buddva.
