MTB Inn DaLi Ancient Town

This hotel has truly been the best hotel we've been to in China: 1. The hotel has free pick-up service - with so many unlicensed taxis trying to rip you off and the regular ones refusing to put their meter on a free pick-up is not only saving you about 150RMB but also saves you bothersome arguing and haggling with taxis who refuse to follow the law. 2. The staff is GREAT. Ever so rarely do you stay in a hotel where you feel the whole staff enjoys your visit and genuinely care about your requests. Unfortunately only one of them spoke English (also some of the best English we've heard in China) but you can get along with the rest of the staff using Google translate. 3. Despite previous reviews the staff were very helpful with attractions and kept showing interest on our plans and gave us advice accordingly. 4. The room was very spacious, and the bed was very comfortable. The room was a little bit dirty but in spots you usually wouldn't be bothered with ie under the table and under the bed 5. The hotel was 30 minutes walk away from the ancient town and there is no sidewalk on the road leading to it, making it difficult to access the best area of Dali. Despite this, there is a bus to the ancient town, and bycicles were available for free. 6. The reason that despite the negatives this place deserves 5 starts is that a night before we were set to leave for Lijiang by train a friend of the staff visited them before heading to Lijiang, knowing this the hotel staff immediately offered us to join him as we came back in the evening, saving us not only money but so much trouble with public transport to our next hotel.
