Tranquil setting, beautiful place, and even more beautiful people!  We spent 2-weeks at this lovely, out-of-the way, beach-side bed-and-breakfast on the edge of Sal Rei, Boa Vista.  We could not have been happier!  Our room was comfortable and clean with a lovely beach view, complete with hammock, table, and lounge chair.  The views and breeze from the ocean were unforgettable.   The beach, a short 50-meter walk across the sand, was clean and void of tourists: only some local families towards the end of each day.  Beach clubs with meal and drink services are a scant 10-minute walk up the beach.  Plenty of opportunities nearby to rent boats, wind surf, fish, snorkel or most anything else in the water.  Breakfast in the courtyard was excellent: fresh fruit, eggs to order, meats and cheeses, cakes...just enough.  Wonderful restaurants with fresh fish were a short walk in any direction.  Our room was perfectly clean, and the friendly staff did an outstanding job maintaining it.  The best part of our stay was our Hosts: Orquidea and Gary.  Kind, charming, and wonderful people with a rich history in and around Cabo Verde.  By the time we departed, we truly felt like Family.  Both were so incredibly helpful...to include arranging tours, taxis, fishing trips and especially a memorable night out for our 19th wedding anniversary.  Gary, an accomplished sailor and fisherman, has a Boston Whaler nearby and offers amazing reasonably priced chartered fishing (or spearfishing) tours for guests.  We went out three times and ALWAYS came back with fish.  We were so happy that we stayed here and not at a larger, busier hotel. WHEN we return to Boa Vista, we will most certainly return to the Orquidea Guest House and our GOOD FRIENDS, Orquidea and Gary.  This is a special place and our home-away-from-home in Boa Vista!

if you come to Sal Rai on Boa Vista Island, looking for a very well kept, comfortable and tastefully designed guesthouse this is the place to go! 

It is located right next to where the oldtown pier wirh a selection of restaurants, bars and sops adjoins the city beach. 

Besides,Orquidea, her husband and her staff are wonderful hosts. The guesthouse also provides a nice breakfast inside a calm and green patio. Everything is clean and the the interior design is a very good combination of traditional and modern look. They also provided us with good tips and excellent support in terms of organsation.

Since we work as architects and designers ourselves (and also run an museum like holiday house in a 1920s estate in Berlin), we usually doublecheck if a site is well designed and well kept. But for sure: The Orquidea deseves the highest grade!

Lovely designed, kept and situated

Orquedia and Jerry’s guest house is so much more than a holiday rental, they invite you into their beautiful family home with children, grandchildren, dogs, cats and turtles. 

If you want all an inclusive brand spanking new development, with hard selling of excursions, then go elsewhere. If you want to chill out with a view over the bay from your room and one step out the front door to be on the beach you’ll love this well established nugget. Spotlessly clean and genuinely authentic Cabo Verde. 

The family share their breakfast with you and are there to chat about what’s going on locally each night or to help out with whatever emergencies (large or small) come up. They saved us when our ferry was delayed by 14 hours! They rang up the workers in the harbour and the ferry company to see what was going on and let us check our sooooooo late that night.

Everything we were looking for in a trip to Cape Verde.

We have just spent 11 nights with Orauidea in her beautiful GuestHouse and can confirm that it is charming in every way. Orquidea is very warm and welcoming and all her staff are lovely. It’s location is superb, sitting right on Estoril beach, which is the calmest bay on the Island and an easy 10 minute walk into the centre of Sal Rei, where you can watch the fishermen unloading their catch and the local children enjoying the sea! The rooms are simply furnished, but immaculately clean and very comfortable. We had room 8, which is a superior room upstairs with a balcony with a hammock and sunbed, from which you can enjoy a fabulous view of the beach. Breakfast is served in a delightful courtyard, shaded by banana trees. Frankly - what’s not to love?

Everything was perfect, great price!
We went to three places on boa vista and sal and this was by far the best one.

The best place we could find!

I had a great time at Orquidea’s Guest House! The view was lovely, the room was clean, and it was safe. Everybody was friendly and you'll get to experience parts of the Cape Verdean culture.

I'll always be thankful to Orquidea because on the day I was going to pay the bill, there was an issue with my credit card. Even though I had the exact amount in cash to pay her, she was adamant about receiving it as she knew I was going to a different island and I would need the money. Orquidea kindly let me catch my flight with the promise I would transfer the money later. Yes, I paid her later, but I won't ever forget this experience. Because of Orquidea’s compassion, I recommend her place to all my family that will be visiting Boavista Island in a few years. Also, lesson learned - have more cash on hand!  😅

Amazing Trip

We spent one week at the Orquidea Guest House and enjoyed every moment. The hotel features comfy and spotlessly clean rooms, great beds, air con, beautiful terrace and a beautiful patio full of tropical plants. The hotel is in Sal Rei at the beach, a perfect location to explore Boa Vista and spend lazy days at the beach. Everything is in walking distance - the town, the beach clubs, the dunes, the owner lives in the building as well and is super helpful on anything. As we got stuck on the island due to haze (sand storm from the sahara), we were transferred to an all-inclusive club by the airline which was horrible and left us even happier that we have had such a beautiful cape verdian experience at the Orquidea.

We can fully recommend this beautiful guesthouse. 

It is located next so sal rei with some restaurants, supermarkets & banks. 

The beach is 10 seconds away from the house & 5 minutes away are some nice beach bars. 

We had the room on top with a stunning view & 2 hammocks to relax. 

The family was all the time very friendly to us & the breakfast in the morning was also pretty good.
