I booked my accommodations based on what was advertised.  I thought I was booking a room with a bedroom and a separate front room and kitchen but all I got was a bedroom in a townhouse.  Unbeknownst to me there are 4 bedrooms in the house that are rented out but you do not have access to the kitchen or living room unless you rent the entire house.  I think that should be clearly specified when making a reservation. The website should be very clear on what you are getting.  My room is tiny with a small fridge and coffee maker but no microwave.  Had I known I never would have stayed in this tiny room.  I could have been in a nice large hotel room with more amenities.  There is no continental breakfast due to Covid which should also have been brought to my attention.   I am glad I am only here for a couple nights. I would never recommend this tiny closet of a room to anyone.

Not all what I expected.  Very disappointed

I have gone back and forth on whether to write this review but as the window closes on the time remaining to submit it the fact that it is still on my mind tells me that I should. When checking out of this property the young lady at the desk asked me my name. Upon saying my name, she replied that she ‘never would have gotten it because she’s just a born and bred Newfie’ and therefore ‘could never be smart enough to wrap her head around the pronunciation’.  As someone originally from the Canadian East Coast I was appalled by this comment. I don’t think this individual appreciates how hard Newfoundlanders have worked to overcome the stereotypes and derogatory terms such as ‘Newfie’ sometimes associated with the Province. When visiting Newfoundland, I never expected to meet an individual who displayed such a lack of confidence and showed so little pride in their identity. Least of all in a place that should be promoting Newfoundland. This is one of my most disappointing stays ever. Right here in my own country. I still have a hard time wrapping my head around that encounter.

Lack of pride.

Had a lovely stay here in October 2019. Lovely clean and well presented room, about ten minutes' walk from downtown which was great. Also close to Signal Hill. A great spot to explore the city from. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Perfect spot for our stay in St Johns

We stayed for 1 night and then moved to another hotel in the city. The room we had was at ground level where the window would not open and the blind covered the window air conditioner. It did not feel safe. We could not park in the driveway as it is first come first serve. Ended up on the hill and walking. My father who is 90 had to stay on the top floor after walking 3 sets of stairs. Staff was very friendly.  not recommended for faint of heart.

Stairs and more stairs

Stayed here for two nights. Room was very nice and clean and staff were very friendly. We were on the 3rd floor and carrying suitcases up and down can be tricky, Also parking was next to impossible, if you have any trouble walking this place is not for you. Up quite a hill. Breakfast was good, coffee was great.

Stairs and hills

This hotel has good free breakfast and clean rooms but not enough parking for the residence. Residents are told to park on corners and on a steep side street. Another drawback is that every room has one queen bed with no varieties. Between the rooms are sleeper sofa is that cannot be used probably for insurance reasons. That’s a shame!

Economical

We really enjoyed our stay at Hometel. Nice, clean spacious room, very quiet. Friendly and helpful front desk staff. It's a bit of a hike to the party scene on George St. but some nice places to dine along Duckworth. I will return! 

Great stay!

This place was perfect for my needs.  Quiet, close to everything, super hospitable staff and fellow guests. Clean.  Hallway had a smokey odor, but not the room.  Breakfast family style was a great way to chat with others

Arriving from the States at 1:30 am, I appreciated the welcoming person at the front desk and especially that the light was on in the pleasant 3rd floor room.  On a foggy morning the next day, I appreciated the warm cranberry and orange muffins with the complimentary breakfast.  The next day, it was carrot muffins fresh from the oven, which went well with yogurt, a hard boiled egg, and juice. Eventually, when the fog lifted, I enjoyed seeing the water in the harbor from my window.  The hotel is located close to shopping and restaurants, and very convenient for a walk (or quick taxi ride) up Signal Hill.  Even with dense fog, the walk around Signal Hill to the Battery was spectacular, and I can only imagine what it would look like on a clear day with ocean views.  In town for a folklore conference, the university was a manageable walk with some planning and navigating.  We also used the conference room for a working lunch.  The premium room is preferable if climbing the stairs is a possibility.  The size of the room and bathroom was just right, along with the comfortable bed and pillows.

Comfortable Room with Harbor View

We were 6 adults staying at 2 houses at Hometel on Signal Hill. Perfect place with easy access to both hiking on Signal Hill and to Quidi Vidi Village, and downtown to restaurants and bars. The area is quiet, breakfast yummi and very warm and helpful assistance at all time. 
We loved that each adult could have their own private bathroom. We highly recommend this hotel home for everybody who has a longer stay in St. Johns and next time we'll return to St. Johns we'll definately come back to Hometel on Signal Hill.
