Stayed one night at the Port Albert Inn; it was an adventure that I don’t care to repeat.

This property would be better categorized as a BnB and set a more realistic expectation.

There is nobody at check-in to greet you or provide any information. There’s a key for your room with a sticky note with your name written on it and then you are to walk around the ‘inn’ trying to find the bedrooms. 

There are 3 rooms on the second floor, and you are literally renting a bedroom in an old house with a lock on the door. There are open grates on the bottom of the doors into the hallway. You can hear EVERY word spoken in a normal voice in the other rooms. 

As an added bonus to the total and utter lack of privacy, our drunk neighbours in the attached room decided that loud, rambunctious sex on and off throughout the evening (until almost 1am) would be a good way to entertain the rest of the house

The TV (that you have to climb on a chair to turn on because the remote doesn’t work properly), doesn’t turn up loud enough to block out that kind of moaning and screaming.

Once the noise finally stopped, we closed the blinds to try to get some sleep. There’s one streetlight and it’s right outside the bedroom window, shining light into the room. The blinds are shabby chic decor, with no blackout capabilities. With no extra blankets available, there was nothing available to block out the light, so there was little sleep to be had. At least the beds are comfortable.

My recommendation would be to skip the shower as the pipes quite literally scream at you when the shower runs. Unless you have a toddler at home and are used to a constant, high pitch scream, a shower at the inn is far from relaxing. At least the water was warm.

Breakfast the next morning was the best part of our adventure. My omelet was nicely prepared, but my BF’s over hard eggs were slimy. I really shouldn’t have looked up at the light when I was finished eating - the lamp hanging over the table was full of cobwebs (and a couple dead bugs to add to the ambience). 

Seriously, a cheap roadside motel offers better privacy and in my case would have been a better choice for me. 

Unless of course, your own sex life sucks and you need to live vicariously through others. Then you may hit the jackpot at the Port Albert Inn.

Zero Privacy at this Inn

Quaint and lovely! Hosts and guests made the experience that much better.
My family shared the 2 bedroom suite. We had our own separate floor, with a small sitting area and fireplace. Breakfast was delicious. Being able to have our fur baby with us was a great bonus. Would definitely recommend and would not hesitate to stay there again.

Super Sweet!

Visited here for a weekend getaway with my wife in late October.

Good things:

- The lounge area has a great feel to it.
- The breakfasts were amazing
- The owners were really nice

Not as great:

- VERY thin walls
- Bed was pretty hard and squeaked a lot
- Shower needed a little more water pressure

Great people and ambience, though bed could have been better

Room was clean and bed was very comfortable.  Host was gracious and awesome and very helpful. Full home style breakfast was included and was amazing too! The Inn and the hotel were quiet.  The building is charming with character.

one night get-away

Loved the Port Albert Inn. Quiet, comfortable and good value. Amazing breakfast included. Close to Lake Huron beaches and wonderful walks. Across the road from the Port Albert General Store and Pub which offers great food and beverages. Short drive to Goderich and Bayfield. Thank you Angus and Melissa.

Hidden Gem

Our 1 night stay at Port Albert Inn was phenomenal. The whole Inn looks exactly like the photos and the hot tub was amazing. Super close to the beach. Service was great, they made us feel right at home and the breakfast was delicious. Would highly recommend and we’ll definitely be staying here again.

Exactly as Advertised

A quaint clean room. A large dining area with tables and a couch with a fireplace. All 5 rooms filled but didn't hear any noise. A delicious and fresh breakfast. A 5 min walk to the lake. Angus and family are very aimable. We'll be back!

Lovely 

Pastel pretty wrap-around porch and cosy homey interior: this is the perfect antidote to these crazy covid times. Even the fact that masks had to be worn inside the Inn didn’t deter from the laid back relaxed atmosphere created by the location and host Angus. 
Nothing was too much trouble and the home cooked breakfasts were to die for. An added bonus is the nearby tiny sandy beach ( 2 mins driving / 5 mins walk ). The sunsets and night sky were the star of the show and the chorus was the rolling waves of Lake Huron. We were told that a piper pipes in the sunset on weekends so get there early. 
And of course having the characterful General store opposite was very handy

Just what the Doctor ordered 

If you are looking for something quaint, comfortable, close to quiet beach, general store with ice cream, this is a great place to be. Kids loved staying in the two bedroom suite. Tv, wifi and bbq on site was great.  Totally recommend if you are looking for a little getaway with the kids. 

Stayed at the inn

It's a lovely old-fashioned spot, with a good matress, pretty room though small. We are asked to shower if we've used sun lotion, not part of my routine getting in late after music festival, but the request was because the local water interacts with sun lotion.

AS long as you are not a demanding sort of traveler, you will love the charm of "downtow" port albert, which consists of teh inn and general store, next to the river and rainbow trout management site...a bit like being near an old mill.
Angus could not be more gracious.
