Chico Preto Hostel

When I booked this hostel I didn't realise we'd found the best place in town. The hostel is awesome, it's in a beautiful old Ouro Preto house, only sleeps 12 people (but we had the place to ourselves), and has the loveliest hostel owner I have ever come across. Marcello is an absolute gem, super sweet and kind, speaks amazing English (and also Spanish and Portugese), has awesome knowledge of the area (not only historic but the quirky little side stories only a local would know), and he checks in on you to make sure every thing is going ok. Absolutely worth it just for him. Breakfast is filling and tasty, and the hostel is between two of the highlighted churches on the Ouro Preto map with two super markets just up the road and kitchen facilities to cook with. I should say to people that it's about a 20-25min walk up and down hill from the central square. I really loved doing this walk because the streets are just so pretty (and there are a couple of awesome little side stories and history worth following down that road), but I do know that for some people the hills are hard so just an FYI! The good 100% outweighs the hills though, and that part of town was super safe :)
