Six of us stayed here in two triple rooms- including a 1 year old baby. It was perfect- clean and confortable, hot water and a really good breakfast (home made yoghurt!)
It's slightly further up the hill from the main town- only 10 min walk max, but felt nice and quiet and restful, away from the crowd.

Lovely and quiet, very clean

We stayed during high season and this was one of the cheapest options. Basic but comfortable. It's nice and quiet, and the room was very clean - and impeccably serviced everyday we were there. The rooms are arranged around a nice little garden terrace. The breakfasts were incredible - and had the homemade touch. 
It is family run and the family are lovely. What really made our stay though was that on the last night/day my other half was very sick. We couldn't stay on as they were fully booked, but not only offered to find us somewhere else, but the son (who speaks English) made him a special herbal tea for sickness and prepared a little plate of crackers. They let him sleep on til our boat was leaving - past check out, and then when we were leaving, he gave us another bottle of the tea which he had chilled for us. It was such a kind gesture and really stuck with us.
Two things to bear in mind - it's a little bit of a walk (maybe 10 mins max up a small incline) from the jetty (no taxis on the island - but you can hire a bloke with a trolley!). It's no problem if you are fit. (Actually a plus in many ways because it's quieter up there). Also they have a couple of (very cute) dogs and a cat or two  - which might be an issue if you're not keen on animals.

good value - and lovely owners

We were going during the busy season (end of Dec), so hotels in the area were very expensive and mostly booked.  This hotel had been the cheapest option.  The lady overseeing the property was very nice and attentive, despite speaking little to no english.  The rooms were good -- we had a queen room, and my sister/aunt a loft type arrangement -- and there was a TV in-room which had an english channel or two.  I would've rated the experience higher, had it not been for the fact that the rooms seemed like it had no ventilation, and everything (the mattress, pillows, etc.) were damp.  It was kind of uncomfortable, and all our clothing/shoes felt damp as well.  It had been raining off and on that week, but still.  Also, the location was a trek up a winding and steep hill, which is kind of inconvenient for rolling luggage.

An okay experience

I stayed here in late January, booked ahead, and paid the internet price, $100 per night, as I was worried about turning up in high season and not being able to find a place. This turned out to be a mistake in hindsight, as I found out from insiders on the boat on the way over that in fact it was the tail end of the season and there were plenty of touts offering much cheaper rooms at the pier.

While I did not expect luxury on Ilha Grande, even taking into account the time of year and Brazil's reputation as a pricey destination, I thought the service offered was not good value for money.

The family running the place were very friendly and they serve an exceptional breakfast. But the room was very basic and not very comfortable. 

The rooms are centered around a small courtyard, but there is only one very small chill out area at the reception, so it is not very inviting and therefore few opportunities to relax and mingle with other guests who pretty much keep to themselves.

The whole place is just a bit worn and tired looking. Location is up a side back alley behind the main town, walking distance to restaurants, etc. 

I understand there is a season and the people here need to make money to live on for the rest of the year, but compared to other places of similar standard, I felt this was poor value for money.
