I put in a request to stay at the Waterlands Village.  Per Tripadvisor, the property was available for the dates that I requested.  The owner, David G, couldn't even take the time to respond within 24 hours, when the request expired.  Pathetic!  In the end, probably glad I didn't stay here.

Great accommodation at Waterlands Village #8 (10 days in early March).  We had a wonderful waterfront 2 bed/2 bath property  with a view of the lagoon.  We had most breakfasts and dinners outside on the veranda on the water with lots of wildlife to entertain us.  There is also a communal pool and the whole property was clean and well maintained.  I was able to meet our hosts and they gave us lots of tips and ideas for things to do on the island.I am not a diver but I do snorkel but their are still many things to do for non-divers. If you are looking at Waterlands Village - I can highly recommend #8.

Gated Community on the Water

My second stay at Waterlands.  Virtually across the street from the Airport, Waterlands is close to town, and short hops to either Dive Friends Port Bonaire, or Dive Friends Marriott.  I went with the Marriott as they have a photo center.  Units have 4 four foot panel sliding doors that open the living area to the porch area.  The complex pool is centrally located to the units.  We were often the only ones at the pool, and never saw more than a half dozen people.  The caretaker keeps the grounds in great shape.

This property is gated and safe . Common pool is fantastic , even has waterfall . Garden villa surrounded by beautiful plants and animals .Yes it's close to airport but remember Bonaire is not Chicago international so not too many take offs and landings everyday .  Besides easy to walk to and from terminal . Yolanda and Peter understanding managers .

Relaxing , private little resort .

Waterlands Village is getting more beautiful every time we visit: the garden is really mature now, which means it's nice and cool. (As cool as can be on Bonaire!) The houses are very spacious and well equipped, with aircon and fans. Of course you have to be careful using aircon: although 48 % of the electricity on Bonaire is wind energy, the other half is old fashioned and therefore expensive. Just don't use it in daytime! The only plane that is really loud, is KLM: coming in when you're preparing diner after a day of snorkeling and diving and wind surfing and flying out when you're having coffee: in the little tower at the swimming pool. Great place for watching KLM leave!

Getting better every time

After four hours of windsurfing, while I was relaxing on the lounge chair in the patio two houses away from the main road and the airport across the main road:
My husband standing about 20 feet away from me: Honey, blah blah blah...
Me: Sorry, I can't hear you.
At that moment, a huge KLM plane was taking off.  I know it's KLM because for 4 days now around 6pm when we leave for dinner, the plane is parked, which you can see as soon as you leave the gate of the premises and drive towards the main road.  Around 8pm is when the KLM flight takes off, which we've seen coming back from dinner.  That's right, just when you want to relax your body from windsurfing, diving, etc., airport noise AND street noise will be your background music, drowning the soothing sounds of swaying palm trees and chirping birds.  Airport (big and small planes) and main road noise is also very active in the morning while you're having breakfast.

If you are not sensitive to noise, then by all means this is a perfect place for you.  Our 1-bedroom bungalow is spacious for two adults, it's newish and well maintained, kitchen is well stocked, A/C both in the bedroom and living room, internet is fast, and outdoor shower is convenient to wash off the sand from.  The property manager welcomed us when we arrived, and gave us good tips about the island.

We are planning to go back to Bonaire in December, but unfortunately we will not be staying at Waterlands again.

Look at the map before you book!

Just returned September 22-2012 from Bonaire. We had the pleasure of staying at Waterlands Village. We arrived on a Sunday night and were picked up at the nearby Flamingo Airport and taken to the cottage we had rented from Jolanda at Bonaire Comfort Rentals. She was excellent at arranging our needs and ensuring that we had a pleasant stay. We had made our own arrangements for shore diving and the two weeks passed by very quickly. The cottage we stayed at (#9) is well appointed and even has screens on the windows. The mosquitoes can be a problem at times, if you do not use repellent. Waterlands is situated very close to the airport, but air traffic noise was never an issue. Waterlands Village is gated, so there is a nice feeling of security. Only a short drive to the town, local beaches and many dive locations. I would recommend Waterlands to anyone who wants to just relax and enjoy all there is to see above and below the water in Bonaire.
