Loved staying in this hostel for 5mths last year. It is a nice relaxed hostel with a lot of long-term occupants. This means that you get to make great friends from all over the world rather than just having to meet new people daily and having the same conversations over and over! The rooms are basic but exactly what u would expect from a hostel but the pool and hammocks are great! Many a day spent lounging/reading on those! A big comfy tv room too ☺. It is perfectly situated near the water but a nice distance to walk into town (the only excercise most backpackers see). If you are expecting a hotel standard then pay the extra dollars and stay in one. This place is value for money. 100% recommend it

We were only around a few days and the place is very average. We even had a problem with the door not locking properly. The manager who was very new fixed this for us and it was great to see him running around making the backpackers better, as well as doing his best to keep us happy and others He told me to come back in 6 months and things will be superb................ Peter we promice we will, and I am sure you will have it more like a motel and less like a sliightly run down place like it is

Great for a short time

Mind me that we stayed Dec 25-27th, but if the place is open, you should have someone to greet and check the people in (they did not have one), we did not have dinner the first night because our plates and cuttlery was not given to us (yes, the give each person a set of plates, in stead of having them for everyone, live any normal hostel), you could not bring you own alcohol (because they had a bar, which is ridiculous), and several other tiny but annoying things is why I would not reccommend the hostel--- even though it is cheap.

They will charge you 185$ for the week.  You can get a guesthouse on Air BNB (we went to "On The River" at 136 Duporth Ave) for the same price.  You have to additionally pay for the use of their van (5-10$ a week per person) so they are making way more money off the use of their transport than they would in actual petrol.  Pots and pans are dented, handles broken, food caked and burned on.  there was no microwave for an extended period of time and the ovens seem as though they havent been used for years.  The bathrooms often run out of toilet paper and are covered in urine all throughout the day.  The Kitchen and bathrooms are cleaned in the morning, so are dirty by lunch.  They advertise the use of kayaks, bikes, dvds and netflix......but the kayaks can only be booke during office hours (which are obscure and never open when appropriate, the bikes are broken and the there are many dvds but no dvd player to use.  the internet is so slow netflix doesnt work and you cant access wifi from your bedroom.  the pool area and side yard have amazing potential, but as the sofa's and pizza oven havent been looked after for ages, and are not under covering to protect from rain/wind, all hammocks and couches are destroyed.  The grass is overgrown, trees are rarely tended to, and there always seem to be beer bottles and cigarette butts for you to clean up from the previous night.  the hostel staff themselves were courteous, polite and would bend over backwards to help you out, however there is so little for this hostel to offer it seemed they could only do the best they could with what the owner left behind.

in all honesty, spend some time, find a good group of friends and book an airbnb.  Most holiday lets will get you access to a pool, bbq area, common room facilities, a fully functional kitchen and have a cleaner once a week come in.  ALL FOR THE SAME PRICE as what you would get charged to live here at Maroochydoore Backpackers, without having to share dirty bathrooms and kitchens with everyone else.

Not Worth the time or money

I booked a Double room which was meant to have a TV,Fan and safe in the room. These items were not in the room. the Double bed was a Single base with Double mattress so you fell off if you rolled over in bed, The smell of marijuana was overpowering and there was smoking implements and beer bottles left on outside tables every night and day. Rubbish bins next to rooms Washing hanging over fences Rubbish everywhere ( wood with nails and steel rods) .The pool was filthy and Kitchen has towels placed under the fridges as they were leaking. Staff didnt care at all. Very Very dirty establishment should not be open.
