I was responsible for organising a get-together of touring motorcyclists from SA, Vic, NSW, Qld and the ACT where I live. Riding the sinewy roads of the Snowy Mountains was our objective, Cooma was our base.  I did a recce of several motels in Cooma and chose the Altair because it met numerous of our requirements: comfortable rooms, very good off street parking for our bikes, away from prying eyes; located within a short walking distance to places to eat & drink, good coffee and supermarkets; an excellent centrally located, raised, covered veranda for socialising when we weren't riding; a very welcome group discount on our room rates. Friendly staff, from the front office to the team of cleaners. All in all, a great experience.

A great place to base yourself in Cooma, the gateway to the Snowy Mountains.

We booked as a large group. Most of us found the elderly lady in reception was not very receptive or accommodating, which in a service industry is not good.
The shower leaked and flooded the bathroom as the floor waste is higher than the rest of the floor. This is a building code violation. The room was tiny but the bed was comfy. I don't think our group would stay here again.

The rooms have had a recent refreshing and whist there was a couple of minor issues (I'm a bit pedantic), they were taken on board and shall likely be remedied promptly.

Clean, comfortable, attentive and friendly

I have stayed here multiple times while working and have had family stay with me - that means I've tried many rooms at quiet and peak times. The rooms are always spotless with cleaning staff ready to go above and beyond to make my stay comfortable. Super friendly owners - I wouldn't stay anywhere else!

Fabulous service, spotless rooms

Nicely refurbished rooms with comfortable bed (ie not too hard), lovely crisp bed linen, useful microwave and kitchenette (but you need you’re own cooking gear if you want to use the cooktop), clean bathroom and a small lounge area for sitting. Room was set bs k from road so very quiet but outside light stays on which might bother some. Owner/manager Charlie is very friendly and efficient. Shame the restaurant wasn’t open when we went. Apparently she makes fabulous Mexican food (not the gloopy cheesy sour cream laden stuff that is passed as Mexican)

Clean, comfortable and friendly 

This is our third year in a row staying at the Altair during ski season. We are already planning next years trip. Martin,Charlee & staff are so warm & welcoming. The rooms are clean, comfortable & very reasonably priced. We absolutely love staying here & would highly recommend to anyone looking for a fantastic place to stay!

Exceptional!!

We are Cooma locals and we had a Mexican meal last night and it was really, really good accompanied by a delicious glass of Radie Boka Tempranillo. Very welcoming reception from Charlie and her husband. 

Restaurant was brilliant

The hotel is in great condition and newly renovated rooms were excellent. Certainly a nice place to stay and great value for money. I can’t believe people have anything bad to say about this place I will be back.

Friendly reception staff, has been fully refurbished , stayed in a large suite was very comfortable, good on site parking and reasonable rates, room very clean and well appointed, has outside deck with views to the hills , would definitely stay again

Dropped in without a booking, on motor bike, got the last room adjusted the price as it was a family room, could not be more helpful, bed was A+++. Walking distance to centre of town, good suggestions for places to eat, all up a value add experience
