We planned a trip to Savannah in March of 2020. After all was cancelled due to Covid we are finally visiting this bucket list city. It was important that we stayed at lodgings indicative of Savannah’s history.  The Catherine Ward House had a perfect location in the historic district, steps from Forsyth Park and on the free “Dot” transit route. Our room was quiet “Jim Williams” room, good air conditioning control with a little porch. Breakfasts prepared and served by Rebecca were fabulous. Sonja was a friendly and personable host.

I cannot recommend this bed-and-breakfast enough - beautiful, comfortable decor, immaculately clean, fabulous breakfasts, friendly and helpful staff, a quiet yet convenient location, and free parking!! Small, private patio with a fountain in the back.

A Perfect Bed-and-Breakfast

This is a great bed and breakfast. The house is beautiful and furnished exquisitely. Our room was large and very comfortable. Their breakfast, every day was outstanding. This is very near to free transportation to the historic district or one could walk there, which we did several times. Sonja with an outstanding host.

Best Bed & Breakfast

I have stayed at many B and B's.  This one was exceptional.

A major shout out to our host, Sonja, who provided good and relevant information and suggestions for our stay in Savannah, and also to the kitchen staff for the great breakfasts they made for us.  When we arrived we felt very welcomed and got a great tour of the property along with important details about our stay.  We would definitely stay here again.

A wonderful experience all around!  We stayed in Room #3 (top floor);  quiet, sparkling clean, good lighting, beautiful bed linens, very tastefully decorated in warm shades of gold.  Bathroom had plenty of hot water (good water pressure!), again - good lighting! and plenty of absorbent towels. Breakfast was delicious - fresh, perfectly ripe fruit, piping hot entrees, coffee/tea and oj. Loved the walkable and safe location.  Parking was easy.  Sonya and staff were friendly, engaging and helpful. Highly recommend!  

A gem, close to the gorgeous Forsyth Park

I wanted to love this place based on all the rave reviews and so perhaps I set myself up to be somewhat disappointed. The house is lovely and well-restored. However, our room, the Cosmopolitan, left a lot to be desired. Its views were of a small parking lot, the back of a rickety-looking rental house, and an alley where trash was strewn about for the first couple of days of our stay. We had to keep the blinds drawn anyway because people would be able to see right in. The rooms are billed as having balconies. In fact, they are decks connected by a maze of different levels of outdoor steps that are very slippery when wet--which they were when we arrived, since the exteriors had just been power-washed. Power-washing is a necessity, but the outdoor rugs should have been taken up beforehand. We had to walk across a sopping-wet rug to enter our room and had to immediately remove our shoes so that we didn't track in the water and chemicals. The odor of bleach coming from the rug got so bad that we couldn't use the deck. Eventually, we asked the host, Sonya, for permission to remove it and she helped us drop the rug to the ground and roll it up. She was very apologetic. The decks aren't fully covered and are exposed to direct sunlight for much of the day. Our room was a little shabby, with wobbly lampshades and one lamp that was very tricky to light. You couldn't charge your phone on one side of the bed because the outlets are not conventional, so I had to prop my phone on a chair on the other side of the room and use an adapter to plug into a wall outlet there. No clock in the room. One of the oddest features was a clothes bureau that had drawers with no handles, only keyholes. There was a key to insert into the keyhole of each drawer to pull out that drawer. Also inconvenient were the heavy, dark, floor-to-ceiling curtains over the door. The curtains have long metal pulls that bang against the glass in the door when you open or close them. Because you have to keep the blinds and curtains closed, the room is very dark, and it was decorated with mostly dull beiges and browns to begin with. Those were the negative features. Now, for the many positive features! The bed was extremely comfortable and had plenty of nice pillows. The closet was deep and roomy. The air-conditioning worked well and there was also a ceiling fan. There was a fireplace, either gas or electic, but we didn't use it. The shower and toilet functioned very well, the bathroom was spacious, and there was a plentiful supply of towels. Toiletries were also provided and the host offered to get us anything else we needed. There was only one, small plastic wastebasket for the entire room. Not sufficient for two people over a stay of several days. No housekeeping is provided. We requested to have the trash emptied, the tissues replenished, and the bed made (once). The front and back doors to the main house are supposed to be unlocked at 6 am, but that didn't happen during our stay. We are early risers. A coffee-maker in the kitchen is timed to be ready at 6 am, which my husband really appreciated. The inn has a good selection of tea available at all times and keeps a full stock of bottled water that is free for the taking. The earliest breakfast is served is 8:30 am, which is too late in the day for us. We can't speak to its quality but other guests seemed to enjoy it. At other places, hosts have set out a small assortment of pastry and fruit or have kept a limited selection of packaged items such as yogurt and granola bars on-hand to accommodate early risers. A few fresh cookies were available daily in the foyer. No other snacks or drinks. There is a nice selection of glasses you can take for use in your room for cocktails or other beverages. No glasses were provided in the room. There is a pretty little patio in the back of the house with a cafe table and two chairs. The patio has foliage, some shade, and a little koi pond. A very peaceful spot for a quick respite. The large front porch is also pleasant, with several sturdy wooden chairs and a full roof. The location is ideal. It's within a very short walking distance of Forsyth Park as well as a hip coffeehouse, a healthfood store with a deli serving fresh-made sandwiches, a wine shop/bar, a convenience store, and a terrific little Cuban counter-restaurant. The neighborhood is mostly quiet, with very little noise from traffic or people at night. While we appreciated the safe and convenient location, the comfortable bed and shower, and the charming and vivacious host, we've certainly stayed in places with better accommodations and services that were much less expensive. Apparently, because Savannah is a popular tourist destination, the Catherine Ward House Inn is able to charge very high prices for its relative comfort and convenience. However, it cannot begin to compare with the level of elegance and service available for much lower prices at inns in other, mid-size cities with a lot of visitors.

Comfortable and Convenient But Very Expensive for a Moderate Experience

The Catherine Ward House Inn is exquisite!  Located three minutes from Forsyth Park in Savannah's Historic District. From the moment we pulled up in front of the Inn, walking through the front door into the beautiful foyer, passing through the quaint garden and hearing the water from the Koi pond, it was simply enchanting. Leslie, Sonya and their staff were such a pleasure to be around. The breakfast was beautifully plated, delicious and filling.  During our stay there was a couple from Italy, Jerusalem, a gentleman from Russia, and a mother and daughter from Columbia, South America. We all had such fun talking during breakfast. My husband and I really enjoy B&Bs, but we've never experience such a phenomenal group of people in one setting.

So glad I searched TripAdvisor and booked this boutique inn for our anniversary. Our room (Jessica’s) was tastefully furnished and bathroom was updated and immaculate. We liked the private entrance so we didn’t have to go through the main house. Our host Sonja was gracious and helpful. The breakfast was well prepared and beautifully presented while we conversed with fellow guests from Paris, France, NY and Colombia, South America. We  were welcome to use wine glasses from the kitchen since we brought wine and cheese to keep our in room refrigerator. The on street parking was free and convenient. Don’t hesitate to catch the free DOT public transportation from several nearby locations. Loved our stay there!
