Thank you to the staff and management of the Periwinkle Inn. Our family had an emergency situation this weekend.  My husband and I appreciate the kindness and compassion shown for our family.  We look forward to our stay at the Periwinkle Inn in the near  future.

Looking forward to our stay

From checked in to check out, my family and I had the most fun and relaxing 5 day vacation at the PERIWINKLE.  The front office and staff became like family, they were most kind and helpful and made every request possible. Besides the refreshing outdoor pool, we all played shuffleboard and ladder ball on the grass. The hotel is in walking distance to all restaurants and Washington Street Mall.  If you can't make it back on foot, the Perwinkle has a free pick-up (and drop-off) service! Overall, the Periwinkle lacked nothing and we will return yearly.  My family and I also want to thank Gerry for the kindness and generosity he showed us for the time we stayed. A real 5 star vacation!

Cape May Gem

Pros: Hotel was clean, pool heated, directly across from beach. 

Cons: Some type of family/friends reunion occurred during our stay. This group of what appeared to white trash had many rooms occupied all around the outdoor recreation area. They were drinking, smoking, doing drugs, loud music, cursing and being very inconsiderate of children and families staying there too. I thought the manager on duty was going to rectify the situation until she sat down with them and started looking at pictures of their phone and chatting! She obviously knew them or was related to them and basically enabled their behavior to continue. A real shame as it’s an otherwise nice, affordable hotel on the Cape May beach. We couldn’t even use our balcony, open the sliding doors, or enjoy pool with our children while they were out there which was most of the day and night. Hopefully the owners will reevaluate their staffing choices to avoid a recurrence of such shameful and deplorable behavior. 

Suggest the hotel also not allow smoking on the property as well to improve the family vacation experience.

Nice hotel on the beach but other tenants were inconsiderate.

We stayed at Periwinkle Inn for a family weekend in August. We reserved a seaview room with a kitchenette and 2 beds through Bookings.com. We arrived and we were given a room with no view and 1 bed with a sofa sleeper. We arrived within 1 hour of our check in time and we showed the confirmation room details to the front desk. They made no attempt to accommodate or even apologize if their was a mistake. They were rude and simply said it wasn’t their problem and to contact Booking.com. Despite 3 attempts to contact and submitting complaints to Bookings.com, we received no response. For $650/night plus the tax rate, this was definitely over priced for the quality of room. We will not return again or use Booking.com in the future. Despite this, we had a nice weekend and did find the hotel to be clean, nicely updated, and conveniently located across from the beach and restaurants. If you book here, I recommend calling the hotel directly and getting your confirmation directly. 

Beware Booking integrity and customer service 

The Periwinkle Inn is a nice little place at the edge of Cape May's busy tourist district. 

My wife and I chose to stay here for its availability, location, and price in July, 2023.

The check-in was simple with Elizabeth as our guide. The grounds were very well kept, clean, and comfortable. We were give room 302 on the third floor, which can be reached by elevator at the back end of the grounds or stairs on the back of the buildings. The rooms are large, very clean, and dry. Even with the humidity at 88% percent that week, we never felt sweaty and the individual heating/ cooking unit was more than adequate to control the temperature in the room. There was a fridge and microwave. The bathroom was a bit small and clunky with the door that must be closed to remain comfortable while using the John. The shower was wonderful with the water temp easily controlled.

Cleaning staff made the bed and removed dirty towels each day, also!

All rooms faced the Inn's pool and gardens. We did notice during a brief 1 hour squall that the walkway became flooded, so be wary during a rainy stay. 

Parking was ample and free (with a complementary parking pass) and we always found a spot if we decided to strive somewhere.

The Inn has a free shuttle (a large electric golf cart) which can be requested between 5-10pm each day for "free" rides most anywhere on the island. You should tip the driver. There were several free services like this throughout the island. 

Although we paid around $400+/ night (thus the 4 stars), it was worth it to experience Cape May for our first time and we felt safe and secure at the Periwinkle!



A  Less Expensive Cape May destination

Friendly and beautiful little hotel in historic Cape May.  Close to the beach and downtown.  Great stuff.  Many good restaurants around , pictures town on a beach.  First American resort town.  Bird’s sanctuary is the perfect place for a walk on the nature.

We have been going for over 20 years and will continue to go to the Periwinkle Inn  Friendly, clean, great location.  Amenities are good.  Outdoor grill or cook inside.  Great pool, beach directly across the street.  Walking distance to everything.

Great, very relaxing

This was my 2nd time at the Periwinkle Hotel and I am as impressed as I was the 1st time! The rooms are clean, the staff is welcoming and friendly.  The housekeeping is great! Anything that you need, they will try to accommodate. 
The pools are the cleanest I've been to in years! 
My grandchildren loved it!
And, you are right across Beach Avenue from the best beach on the Jersey Shore. 
I will definitely stay there again.

Gem of a hotel

Perhaps the time of the year but $500+ and $100+ in taxes...I've stayed at all inclusives for that. Quite disappointed but last minute trip and place looked cute.  No restaurant, no bar, no entertainment...my pool at home is almost as large...bathroom outdated....place next door looked better and as you walked south there appeared to be nicer hotels including one next door that looked much nicer.. I'd call it a budget hotel with near luxury prices!!!
Nice folks but honestly not worth more than $200/night. Guess supply and demand does work!!!

Clean, but Old and Expensive

Just spent a few nights at the Periwinkle and was pleased. Hotel is right across from the beach and under a mile from the center of town. 

As others have noted, this place is very clean and very well-maintained. Pool area, flowers, common areas, and even parking lot, were all in great condition. The building itself looked like it was painted yesterday. Only ding on maintenance is the elevator as it didn't seem to be working. Which is odd given the good attention to detail and that it seems to be an ongoing issue. 

Our room was very clean and again, well-maintained. Subjective but the wall art of an art-deco woman was strange and the TV stand was seemingly from a 1970's sunken living room. Generally comfortable room;  the air-conditioning worked very well as did the mini fridge.

The staff was mixed. While our interactions were minimal, they ranged from super-friendly to a bit surly. Appreciated the ice machine and shuttle to town. A nice touch was the live singer poolside. Just wish she was a bit later in the day and that we were told in advance so we could have planned better. Nice sized pool and the kids enjoyed the lawn games.

Overall it was a good stay. The only thing that might keep me from staying again was the noise from next door. The HVAC from the Ocean Club was loud and made sitting on our balcony uncomfortable. 

Note: I wish TripAdvisor had half stars. The Periwinkle is better than average.
