Our VW group makes Sanjay’s Ridge Top Inn hotel the main hotel for our yearly VW event. We have been coming here for 11 years now.  

Sanjay and his family run a great small town motel.  And every year we see something that they have improved on with the hotel.   

This is a basic roadside motel though, and not a sterile, cookie cutter corporate hotel chain.  The location and the views from the Motel are wonderful.  

If your looking for a solid local experience and something off the beaten path, Ridge Top Inn is your place.

Tail of the Dragon Yearly Trip

One thing I can say about this location is that yes it is pet friendly. Since that is what we were looking for this was the place we chose. This was our second trip there, we had stayed there in July and wanted to come back in October in hopes to see some of the peak season for leave changing. This place is very dated, they have extension cords running throughout the rooms. A couple of the extension cords were pretty worn out. Very crowded with furniture making it difficult to walk around in the room. My husband closed the bathroom door and as I said this room is very dated, with old glass door handles that were so loose he was locked in the bathroom and had a hard time getting the door open. In other comments I have seen where people have said that the staff was very friendly. I have to agree the service is great the staff is friendly and accommodating. I don't however think we will be making a third trip to stay here.

Pet friendly

The room was advertised to cost $57.00 the true price was $99.00 plus tax. The owners were rude. 
 The motel has not been updated for 50 years, it smelled bad, the carpet was dirty.  The tiles in the bath room were cracked and broken, with very sharp edges

Terrible room

        The staff at this property are all great! They all go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. Took advantage of the never downtown location to walk to dinner, check out a couple galleries, and have drinks.

While I am quite appreciative of the price and a fairly safe place to stay, the musty smell made this a never-return hotel for me. Definitely a place to consider for a budget stay, but there are better smelling options in this area.

Not for me

I spent four days at the Ridge Top Motel during peak leaf peeping season.  The room was spacious, with two double beds, desk, armchair, coffee maker, microwave and fridge.  The owners/managers are exceptionally friendly and accommodating, and they are taking all necessary COVID precautions.  This is an old building which has not been updated to any great degree, so if elegance and modernity are important, this is not the hotel for you (the reason I gave it four rather than five stars).  However, you cannot beat the price in the Bryson City area.  The location is convenient to the National Park and has some nice views of the mountains.  I definitely would stay here again.

Clean and Comfortable Budget Hotel

I'm not hard to please but...I just could not stay. A tiny room with thin panel walls and thin doors. Everything was very old, outdated, and musty. The premises is in a weird location, was unkempt and overgrown. I booked the room for the price so we could spend money on fun stuff. We weren't in the room 5 minutes and we cancelled the reservation and went somewhere else. I don't normally write reviews, good or bad, but this had to be written.

Noooo! Just no.

Unfortunately, it is a case of "getting what you pay for". Needs updating urgently. I am not a demanding or high-maintence individual but I found it somewhat disgusting, Sorry. I am confident that it will be a much better place if furniture and carpets were replaced and walls and ceilings repaired. I don't think owners need to spend a fortune to make it more presentable and pleasant.

Outdated, not the best choice around

I look at several hotels in the area.   I found several review for ridge top all where good.   We liked the location and the price was in our budget . So, we booked it for our trip.    Was not what we expected at All we knew it was older.  We had stayed at an older  hotel in Gatlinburg it was wonderful.   But this place not so wonderful.  The people that ran it are great. The room was clean.   But WiFi terrible had to go out side the room in the cold and rain or some where else to use it   The room was very small   It took 10 minutes to get hot water and even then taking a shower never had to cool the water down it came out warm and at time durning our showers it would be very cold so you needed to take a quick shower.  There are no outlets in the bathroom there where three in the room but only two worked and they both had extend cords    We will NEVER be back  now I know why the price was so good.  There is a fridge in the room with a freezes but it did not freeze our freezer packed at all.   There also was no door knob on the bathroom door.   The curtain over the window it so thin that you can see people shadow as they walk but so I am sure they can see into your room. If if you are changing your close you might want to keep the lights off at night  unless you want everyone to see you.

Our 48th anniversary trip

My friend and I wanted to ride our motorcycles through the Smoky Mtns. Our only requirement for a hotel was “cheap”. We found this appropriately named motel on top of a high ridge in Bryson City. The price was low, but value was high. Yes, the hotel is dated and the furnishings rather spartan, but great service from the staff including finding a towel on the seats of our motorcycles every morning to dry the morning dew off. I wouldn’t bring my wife here, but for two guys looking to ride, it was perfect.
