We had booked a stay at The Admiral Nelson but received a text advising our booking had been relocated to Dovecote House.  Initially we were sceptical with a quick google search showing it as being closed and in administration!  However our concerns were immediately responded to by Nelson, who we understand has recently taken over ownership of the property!  We arrived a little early but our room was prepared for us to get changed before we headed out and the room prep had been completed fully on our return.  The room was clean and we had a comfy bed! All we needed for our one night break.  We parked close by on a track - about 2-3 minutes walk from the house.  Nelson was a friendly host who ensured we had everything we needed and everything was Ok.  There were some nice touches with shower gels, shampoo etc in the bathroom.  Great location close to York, £5 in an Uber into the centre of York and £9 home as we returned late on.

Myself and friends Never got to stay here in June, We'd booked 2 rooms for this establishment on the 9th April for 1 night, but due to circumstances beyond our control I'd tried to cancel a couple of weeks after booking. It was then I discovered they'd taken full payment and was told that they'd stopped trading..
I am fed up of being given the run around.
I finally got told that some company were dealing with the administration but they subsequently told me that someone else was actually dealing with it. They gave me contact details and I've sent e.mails on numerous occasions to no avail.

Din't get to stay.

I am so fed up. I booked this b&b in January for our girls work Xmas weekend away in November. Paid in full at the time for all the rooms for 1 night. No cominuication since which would be fair enough. Tried to contact this last month to make sure everything is ok and discuss parking etc. No answer from 4 mobile numbers. Emailed on more than on occasion no answer. Stalked them on Facebook and found phone numbers online for one of the owners. All ignored or not available numbers. Finally an email tonight saying they went into administration. Sorry for the business to close obviously but why on earth hadn't we been advised even by the company dealing with their debts. Had I of turned up with 11 friends we would have had nowhere to stay. Terrible customer services all around. If you have paid up and the booking is for the future you better double check that you can get your money back and book elsewhere. We now have that hassle to look forwards to. Not happy at all.

2 Nights stay

I must have misunderstood about the breakfast and parking permit as they were not available.  I can't believe I paid £100 for room only in the smallest double room I have ever stayed in. It was difficult to walk around the bed to get to the creaky wardrobe. There was room for only one bedside light. A security code had been fitted for the front door but other guests did not bother to close the door but we did and then other guests were banging on the door to get in. One guest left his takeaway on the landing outside our room. We had a private bathroom and whilst there was plenty of hot water the shower didn't turn off properly so we had to leave it dripping. There is parking nearby at about £6 for 24 hours. We are quite fit and like walking so that wasn't a problem for us but others should carefully consider the location. It is about 20 minutes to the Minster for example.

Overpriced pokey room - we feel ripped off!

Shared bathroom between at least 8 people. No breakfast whatsoever. The front door isn't locked even at night so anyone could wander in.  Big cobwebs in the ceiling. Not even a sink in the room.  No free parking or permits. Whole place a bit shabby. The Charlie Chaplin statute outside the loo is a bit creepy. 

Good points -  lots of tea and coffee in the room. Room was decorated nicely. Bedding clean. Hot shower.
