This pub is a handsome building in a beautiful and elevated seaside location. We have previously stayed here and have had lunch. Our third visit yesterday was intended for Sunday lunch with the Riviera Ramblers jazz band. When booking I specifically requested a table near the band. Upon arrival we were told they do not take reservations in that area and ironically were going to send us to a table the furthest away in a separate room. They did not have the courtesy or bother to let us know about this policy in advance. In the end we managed to grab a small pedestal table by the bar in full view of the band. Inadequate for eating at, not to mention Sunday roast. Settled for a bottle of wine and a packet of crisps. Two stars I'm afraid whilst one would be vindictive. This is not the preferred freehouse pub but part of a brewery chain which we tend to avoid. 🇬🇧🇳🇿

Table reservation 

Had a meal with friends to celebrate my husband's birthday.   As usual The Ness didn't  disappoint.    The food was excellent, and the atmosphere great.  The staff were as usual very friendly and helpful. My husband added the beer was good as well

Our second visit to this establishment and again thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
We stayed in the luxury room at the front, with gorgeous views across the bay from our room.
Breakfast was great and cooked to order as well as a buffet of fruit, pastries, yogurts, fruit juice, cereals etc. Fabulous!!!
We also caught the train into Exeter rather than drive in and this was an excellent scenic journey and a lot cheaper than I thought. We stopped off on the way back at Dawlish - had a walk around- then jumped back on to Teignmouth.
Also used the ferryman one day which saves you driving and parking in Teignmouth.
The Ness is great to use as a base and an excellent B & B, also great bar with a roaring log fire.

Great stay !!

Lovely hotel and most welcoming when we checked in. Our room was delightful, comfortable and very clean with a lovely view. A delicious meal in the bar area which had a relaxing atmosphere. A good choice of menu for breakfast which was also very good.  All the staff we met were extremely helpful and friendly. We will certainly return for another visit.

Having had a number of meals over the past few years ranging from disappointing to downright awful, I am pleased that we gave The Ness another go.  A new Chef is now in residence and, with her obvious love for her art, has come a brand new menu.

In place of a main, I had the Larder Plate to Share which was delicious with Pea, Mint & Basil Arancini, Marinated Artichoke, the Chef's own home-made Mushroom Sausage Roll, Crispy Halloumi, Toasted Sourdough & Ciabatta, Mixed Olives and a variety of dipping oils and condiments.  My husband enjoyed his 28-day Aged Sirloin Steak with Triple-Cooked Chips and Bearnaise Sauce.

The December Set Menu (£32.95 for 3 courses) looks delicious with plenty to suit everyone in the family.   Obvious effort has gone into coming up with some unusual Starters including (alongside the Pea Mint & Basil Arancini already sampled) South Devon Crab & Mascarpone Ravioli and a Ham Hock & Mustard Terrine with onion relish.  The soup is Parsnip & Apple.

Alongside traditional Roast Turkey with all the trimmings, there’s a Venison Bourguignon with smoked bacon, mushrooms, creamy mash, maple roasted carrots and kale …. or a similarly accompanied Beetroot Wellington with hasselback potatoes.  For pescatarians - a Pan-Roasted Brigham Hake served with a roast red pepper & tomato risotto, samphire and edamame beans.  

I’m looking forward to trying the vegetarian ‘No Nut Roast’ - a mixed seed, cranberry & vegetable loaf - with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, sprouts and chestnuts, braised red cabbage, crushed swede and gravy.  

Sides include Stuffing in Blankets and Maple Roast Carrots.

There are several classic desserts on offer as well as the ubiquitous Christmas Pudding with Brandy Butter.

It promises to be a wonderful meal.

New Chef - new menu... so glad we gave it another go!

My husband and I were looking for somewhere to eat for lunch and decided to pop in and view the menu. As someone who is dairy intolerant, it was nice to see there were vegan options. Decision made, we were shown to our table where we enjoyed a delicious 2-course meal. Jenny was very attentive, had a great sense of humour and nothing was too much trouble. I can highly recommend the butternut squash ravioli whilst my husband demolished his steak and tanglefoot pie with great gusto.
The vegan caramel cheesecake served with salted caramel ice-cream was superb.
Our compliments to the chef and all those who support them plus not forgetting the front of house team for making this beautifully located eatery an absolute gem.

A spontaneous Shaldon stop-off

Charming family style hotel, almost Poirot-esque. Clean rooms, lovely bar and roaring fire, comfortable seating, all staff were attentive and friendly. Would give 5/5 here.  Food was average though.  My wife had two good meals though I was sick overnight following the Fish Pie meal.

Weekend stay

Booked for a Sunday roast and was not disappointed. Meat cooked to perfection, our friend had the nut roast who said it’s was faultless, the selection of veg and sides are great and the puddings are an easy 5-star!! Service was fantastic, friendly and overall great.

Great welcome. Lovely friendly staff. Room with great view overlooking Teignmouth. It was spotless. Really enjoyed breakfast; good variety of items available. But of a limited dinner menu, but food still good. Love the fire and atmosphere.

Worst fish and chips ever ..
I'm on the UK coast in spitting distance of the sea and I'm served "Hoki  " really ? 
What is this ?  Is it too much to ask ?
