Beautiful parkland surrounding this hotel, where we enjoyed a pleasant stroll.
Delightfully ‘antiquated’ Lovely contrast to modern chain of hotels.
Clean, Comfortable, 
Breakfast was good, with Classic Fm  on radio.
Such a lovely start to the day !

Charming;

It was very grand on the outside but we must admit found it a bit quirky inside too.
A very long drive but we found out that there was another entrance as well. We had a good breakfast it did look appetising. We thought it was over priced, only stayed one night.

A difficult place to find.

Somerton Court was originally built in the 12th century, possibly on Roman foundations. It has been enlarged, improved and modernised since then. We had a warm welcome from the charming owner who directed us the The White Hart for a good meal. The decor is vintage and quirky. What do you want in an ancient country mansion? IKEA ! ?
Bedroom was clean and comfortable as was the bed. Super breakfast. We shall make a point of staying there when we are in the area.

A very comfortable stay in an old country mansion.

This is a strange place, very old fashioned, very quirky. Beautiful setting, lovely grounds but inside a bit tired. It looks like it’s a grand hotel from the outside but is actually a B&B. Walk to Somerton is 7 minutes on country lanes, not far at all. Breakfast was good. I felt it was a little overpriced but otherwise fine and an interesting experience.

Quirky B&B

Spent a night with my wife in this strange place. We would never go back under any circumstances. The room was large but airless and stuffed full of old furniture. Huge Victorian bedding with heavy ancient wall paper and creaky floorboards and approached through long dark corridors with stuffed animals and birds on prominent display in glass cases and black cats wandering around. It’s quite a distance out of Somerton and nothing in the way of bar for refreshments. Phoned for a taxi to take us in and of 5 recommended firms only one could come to pick us up to take us in .....and we would have to wait 1.5 hours!!
The owners (I believe they were) were stand offish and acted as if they really did not want to be in the economic circumstances that necessitated opening their doors to the great unwashed. Perfunctory and icily  correct. The breakfast, much heralded in the web site, was a disappointment. 
We nearly left as soon as we arrived but were tired. If we had booked for 2 days we would not have stayed the second. 

Isolated and Tired

Stayed here as I was attending a wedding in Somerton and wanted to be close to the church. While it is technically walking distance to the town, the walk is along narrow country lanes and a bit hilly so I would only attempt in daylight. The house itself is tucked away down a long drive in a dell - wi-fi is very good but phone signal is poor due to location. There is free parking but quite easy to get boxed if you don't park carefully. Room was spacious and it was nice to have a private toilet. Good breakfast buffet (cereal, toast, jam) and you can place your order for a cooked breakfast as well. Only downside was that there was no way to summon the owners apart from ringing the doorbell? Would suit older travellers.
