My room was basic but very comfortable, warm and convenient,  The staff was very efficient and friendly, adding to the positive feeling I had,  The food was excellent - curry for dinner one night and excellent breakfasts both days,  another plus is the location,  Easy to find and convenient to Thirsk,

Perfect!

Attending a family party at a local pub. Stayed at the accommodation with my partner and two children (18 &8) so we had two rooms. One room had a portable heater whilst the other had a heater attached to the wall. Both rooms very cold upon entering but did warm up eventually with the heaters, although the portable heater didn’t seem as powerful and which meant the second room took a little longer to heat up. Beds a little soft but still comfortable. Yea and coffee making facilities were fine. Shower not as powerful as I would have liked but still nice clean facility. TVs worked fine and had a nice variety of channels available. Overall it was a nice stay. Rooms a little draughty but likely down to the season. I’m sure it is probably a much more pleasant stay in the warmer months. Only downsides would be that there was no breakfast included and no WiFi available.

Overnight stay whilst visiting family.

Don’t bother with this pub meal not good and only doombar beer the meal wasn’t hot enough probably been sitting in the trays for hours , the gravy was like water . The tables were dirty and there was a vase of dead flowers on the shelf

Meal almost cold

Lovely place, very accomodating, staff are very friendly (even after they've finished their shift), management are brilliant, very helpful, highly recommend for anyone, be you old or young... Best place I've seen for a long while. And breakfast is very tasty!!!

Beautiful!

My Son and his girlfriend have just moved to Sandy while helping them move in we thought we would go for a spot of lunch. 
As we arrived Covid actions was very good signed in had temperature taken all names and numbers taken.
We ordered then waited an hour for 2 rolls and 3 jacket potatoes 2 with tuna mayo and one with cheese and beans.
It’s was awful!! the tuna was non existent and the jacket potato was so small, salad looked old and brown. 
Seemed to us that there is one young lady that is left to do everything serve drinks and bring out food, she was very apologetic and it wasn’t even her fault nice girl. The so called manager couldn’t even be bothered to get up and speak to us sent the young lady. Shame on the Manager.
Asked for a refund which we got.
The garden area is disgusting glasses all over the tables and food plates left on tables. 
I would never go in here again.

New to the area!

Just moved into the town and had intended to just call in for a drink. Decided to stay for lunch and glad we did. The food was great and good value, the owners and staff were very welcoming and friendly. Will definitely be back.

Sunday Lunch 

Under new management.  The staff could not have been more helpful.  Provided us with a full meal after a 12 hour drive up from the bottom of France and arriving after the kitchen had shut.  Full English breakfast every morning, very good. Cabins a little tired, but still very comfortable and clean. They had only taken over 4 weeks earlier and are trying to change the reputation of the pub.  They succeeded with us. We have relatives locally and will definately use this pub again.

4 night stopover.

Last minute trip, the family/staff couldn’t have been more accommodating and welcoming. Nothing was too much and we will definitely be back. Carvery was really good, can sometimes be fussy and critical but this was really nice.

Carvery Sunday lunch

My son and I stayed here for 2 nights. The concept is great- detached 'cabins' in the grounds of the pub providing relatively inexpensive accommodation just off the A1. However, the accommodation whilst quite spacious ( slightly larger than most ordinary hotel rooms) was not cleaned particularly well, the duvets, bedding and especially the mattresses were well past their use by date. Small things like the soap tray in the shower was dirty, the shower mat also. Surfaces weren't particularly clean and the whole place just needed some TLC. So we won't be coming back, but it is a pity because these little cabins COULD have been one of those little gems which are becoming increasingly difficult to find. Pity...

Nice idea, poor execution

The staff were very welcoming and lots of customers. Gave the impression of a real locals pub with a " buzzing atmosphere." Chalet accommodation was basic and ok. Mattress and bedding quality to be desired and didn't use the shower, but water lovely and hot in the sink. Shame there wasn't any food available for dinner or breakfast but new owners hadn't been in residence long. Animal poo in flowers beds but owners in process of constructing new car park and garden area. Overall was a convenient place to stay to attend "The final farewell" at Sandye Place school on the Sunday. I wish them every success for the future and am sure will be a popular and great place to stay when they are more settled. We returned key in the letterbox provided. Quiet place to stay apart from emergency vehicle sirens during the night
