Music nights are excellent, but it needs a clear identity.
Lostwithiel has The Kings Arms, Royal
Oak, The Globe, Earl of Chatham and Social Club - none of them have a distinct voice.

We are crying out for a classy pub for when you want a quality glass of wine, some classy snacks or small plates, and people a bit dressed up and just smart.

I love a boozer, but also want quality too - why can’t we get this is a beautiful old twin like Lostwithiel?

Lovely friendly staff and unlike previous review I found them very helpful when I needed to cancelled one of my planned two nights. I wasn't charged at all and everything was fine. The pub itself is a bit rough and ready, but we didn't mind that. The room we had was right at the top up several windy, narrow staircases, so be prepared if you are arriving with lots of luggage. It was very nicely decorated and the bed was lovely and comfy. The room was a bit small though and we were warned that the TV wasn't working. Not a problem for us as we didn't need it, we were busy all evening at the Gin Festival (I can completely recommend this annual festival!) The thing that let this room down was the heat, it got very hot in the night, and the fact that there were old windows which let in all the noise from outside.

Ideal for the centre of Lostwithiel

This hotel has friendly staff, but they will not lift a finger to help you, even if the cost to them is zero, and their inaction results in significant cost to you.

The Kings Arms accepted my booking via Booking.com. However, I quickly realised my error and requested cancellation, via Booking.com, and by contacting the hotel directly. Booking.com said refund was subject to the hotel agreeing, and the hotel staff were very helpful and friendly, quickly confirming they were happy to give me a full refund.
After no refund, I contacted them again to ask if they could verify this to Booking.com. They failed to do this, and I requested again. And again. And again several times a month for 6 months. They continually said they would, but failed to give Booking.com any kind of verification. All they needed to do was send a single message in writing saying they had verified the refund.
In summary, they are either complete liars who pretend to have decency, or they are too incompetent to send a single one-sentence message to Booking com.

If you ever need your booking updated or changed, you can probably count on Kings Arms Hotel to ignore any request you may have.

Staff pretend to care

We planned to stay in Polperro for the evening but failed to book ahead of time and upon arrival, all accommodation was booked out so we made some phone calls and was recommend the King's Arms by another establishment.  We were grateful to be able to secure a last minute booking and to be greeted by such lovely people after what was a very long day!! 
Danni, the hotelier made check in easy, offering us breakfast for the next morning.  Leanne, the cleaner there was also overly helpful, even though not on duty, was lovely enough to escort me to my car, helping me with my groceries and luggage back to the accommodation.  Both Danni and Leanne were welcomed new friends who were very knowledgeable about the area, helpful with tips for our planned trip to The Eden Project the next day and an absolute pleasure to meet!  We were very happy with our room and had a great nights' sleep.  Recommend a stay here!

Recommend a stay here!

Stopped off for a quick drink whilst visiting the village. From the moment we stepped over the threshold we were greeted by friendly locals and friendly bar staff, Keira.
Ended up staying for 2 and felt very comfortable there and had a great chat with Keira. There are some fantastic murals on the walls done by a local. Although we didn't eat there another couple had and praised the food even though they felt there were too many chips - is that even possible? 😁

Clean comfortable room, hot shower and comfy bed. Tea and coffee available.
Was a lot cheaper than others in the area , no breakfast or dinners available.
Ideal location for the Eden Project and Tintagel.
Friendly staff but not around much,room was never serviced and you have to ask for extra tea and coffee.
It was ideal for us as we had plans for the days we were away ,

No thrills accommodation in friendly pub

We spent a couple of hours in this lovely pub Friday evening.  The barmaid was very welcoming and advised on the best wine for my tastes as they didn'thave what I would usually choose. We sat in the quirky enclosed seating area at the back of the pub and admired the incredible artwork on the walls. It was very relaxing and we will definitely visit again next time we're lucky enough to be in Lostwithiel.

A lovely friendly quirky pub

This hotel rates highly for lack of both customer service and facilities.  No TV service in any of the rooms due to aerial problems.  No Wi-Fi signal in bedroom and no breakfast despite saying otherwise on this website.  Curtains were torn (and had been since last August judging from the comments in the visitors book) .  Room not serviced over a 2 day stay.  Bar staff apologetic but proprietors appear not to care or to even be present at the pub.  Total absence of any staff on checkout at 9am.  No words strong enough to convey our disappointment.  Other hotels are available in Lostwithiel and are much more welcoming.

We have just stayed a week in Lostwithiel and used the kings head twice for a drink.
It is an absolutely brilliant pub and I'm glad we went in, total mismatch of locals and staff of all ages. 
We first walked past on Saturday night and noticed outside the board said there was live music and the words "barmaid" were written underneath, we looked in the window and saw the pub had a barmaid and joked maybe she's the singer. After a couple of drinks in nearby establishments we timed it so we would be walking past the pub at the 9pm advertised time as we love live music and thought we'd give it a go.
Sure enough we heard singing coming from the pub and when we entered, it really was the barmaid from earlier.
There weren't many people in at that time but as the evening went on the pub was filling up with young locals who were absolutely hilarious, we were up singing and dancing and lads were doing backflips in the bar, it might sound a bit intimidating but they were good fun, I work with troubled teenagers so they were of no issue to me, they were funny, friendly and a good group of kids. 
The singing barmaid was great and the other barstaff were good too.
Our second visit in the week it was definitely quieter and we were remembered from the few nights before. Lovely warm welcoming pub full of characters. It would definitely be our local if we lived in the area!
