The hotel is very dated. Could do with a makeover.

Nice old building, very friendly staff.
We stopped for valentine's night, the valentine's menu was not on the website before we arrived, in fact we only found out that night.
We had a nice chat with one of the managers who explained how they are updating/modernising the rooms, so if some reviews bring this up then it is in hand.
The food was excellent. Steaks cooked to perfection.
The deserts were very good as well 
All in all a good stay/experience.
I would not hesitate to recommend and look forward to going back soon.

Nice place with good atmosphere and food.

Went to Old Ferry Boat Inn for Mothers Day.  Very disappointed as when we got there at 5.30pm we were told that they had run out of Fish and Chips.  The food was very average and the service was shocking.  The young boys were very inefficient kept asking us what the table number was when we had clearly told them a couple of times. We had to wait ages before the plates were cleared even when the place was very quiet.  It was if they had finished their shift.  I will not be going back there again.

Very poor

A very relaxing break in the Old Ferry Boat Inn with helpful, pleasant and professional staff. The food and service was excellent, and the pub and restaurent was warm and wecoming as soon as you walked in.  Our bed was very comfortable for our two night stay. A Pleasant Break...

Disappointing lunch visit. Seated quickly and bar service was ok however after an hour of waiting our food had still not arrived and tables seated after our arrival seemed to be receiving theres. Upon querying where our food we were told it was just coming out. Another 10 minutes and the food had quite obviously been sat on the hot pass as numerous vegetables were dry, dehydrated and overcooked.
We were planning on having dessert but didnt fancy a 3 day wait for crumble.

Disappointing

We very much enjoyed our stay here, this was our second time returning in under 8 weeks. The rural setting of this hotel is brilliant for walking around the local area. We even managed to do some bird watching from our bedroom window! 

Holywell is a small and quiet village, just a short drive from St Ives which is well served by the park & ride bus into central Cambridge (£3.50/return).  The rooms are small but comfortable and they were clean, my husband was very impressed by how comfortable the beds were. 

We enjoyed several meals here all of which were tasty and well cooked with generous portion sizes. We also enjoyed their breakfasts which were great value for money! 

The absolute highlight of our stay were the friendly and helpful staff, Team Leader Julia was warm and welcoming and happy to tell us more about the local area and recommend local eateries and activities as well! 

All in all, a brilliant option for couples visiting Cambridge and the local area!

Countryside Retreat

If i start with the positive, I received a friendly welcome.I was shown to where the rooms are, and thefirst thing that hit me was the smell.  Not a pleasant welcome at all. I was directed to my room and after navigating the narrow, creaky stairs and a creaky landing i arrived at my room.It was not only freezing because i think the window had been left open to manage the smell, but it was also underwhelming, especially given the price of the room.The creaky floor theme continued, unable to move anywhere in the room without making a racket. The bathroom was tiny, filthy, and the shower had obviously not been cleaned.Having squeezed past the end of the bed to close the window and reach the one plug socket near the bed, I found a collection of dead flies between the window and the fly screen (of sorts). Though I'm not from the area, I didn't think there were that many flies around at this time of year. The room comes equipped with a decent ironing board with a good, padded cover (a rarity in most hotels I've stayed at over the years) and a tiny travel iron which offers heat but no steam.The bed, feeling damp from the cold, was quite comfortable but the pillows were flimsy and lumpy.With paper thin walls you can hear all tvs in other rooms, people moving about and conversations. So, after a very poor nights sleep I was woken by what sounded like a generator/vent at 430am and unable to get back to sleep.This is a very tired looking inn. Over priced, and very basic.

Clean and comfortable, great choice of breakfast options. Lovely pub, quiet and peaceful by the river. Two nicely kept real ales. Nice meals available in the evening from friendly staff. If you like peace and quiet stay here.

Nice and quiet

Beautiful, comfortable inn, delicious food, and extra-friendly staff. Highly recommend the chicken sandwich or chicken tenders - AMAZING! Why not 5 stars then? No AC - I'm American and I need my AC - but I reckon that's a UK thing, not an Old Ferry Boat thing.
