Slight problem with the heating which they fixed immediately.  Staff very friendly.  Food delicious.  Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone and we would definitely stay there again. Big thank you to Red Lion.😃

Brilliant!

We had a pork board and a beef board. The meat was nice, but not particularly special, and the crackling was barely edible because it was rock hard. The sides of cheesy chips and onion rings were ok but I think you can see in the pictures that they were a little overdone. Don’t like to be fussy but we do eat out a lot when we’re away and want to give our honest opinion. Staff were friendly and dogs are made very welcome, which we appreciate (and they certainly enjoyed the meat!) It’s a shame outdoor eating is at the front of the pub only, despite having green space at the back, as this means you’re next to a busy road. Honestly, it was fine, but we probably wouldn’t go back.

Friendly, chatty locals. 
If the breakfast is great, then the evening meal (booked extra) is out of this world. You'll need to loosen your belt! 
It's the sort of place you return to year after year! (Just need a shorter route)


Fantastic, more than a B&B

We stopped for lunch en route to Swanage for a family holiday. 2 cheese and bacon, pork blinder and the lamb baa baa and we can honestly say it was the best burger and triple cooked chips we’ve had.. Delicious! I’d urge anyone to go here for a meal and the staff were also fantastic!

Amazing burgers

A busy pub. The menu is a standard chain burgers and boards of barbecued meat. Asked the waiter if the latter were sharing or single portions and he said they were for people with a healthy appetite. When they arrived, meat was far more than even a teenager could eat comfortably. Share one with extra sides. Meant we couldn't manage anything else and had to take half of it home so cut short our evening! 

Too much meat! 

Had the pleasure of staying at the Red Lion for 2 night’s midweek whilst working. What a gem of a find. Alan the host is a very engaging chap, and it’s evident this is how the other staff aspire to do their jobs. Every meal was well prepared and good value. cosy wee room no frills but everything i needed. would certainly recommend for business in the area or for campers they have a perfect location. thanks alan and the staff for making a couple days away from home homely.

Exceptional Hosts

To start the new year I took my family for a little stay-cation in Dorchester.
We have wanted to visit the cove so booked at the red lion. On arrival the staff and landlady were very welcoming and informative about the hours for news years day and Sunday, this was fine as the said we could take drinks to our room. The room was lovely and clean and quant for family b@b stay. They were very helpful with the WiFi and menus for dinner. The menu was limited due to it being new years day and most of the pubs around being closed. 
We all enjoyed a well cooked meal next to a beautiful warm fire.
The meals were priced fairly reasonable as what you'd expect in any pub.

They welcome dogs and are very affectionate with them.

For a quite night we sat in the room with a film and drink which was lovely.

Breakfast was definitely spot on, accomadating to the children who are not big on Breakfast and myself with different needs.

I will definitely be booking again in warmer weather to explore this little village more.

New years break

Such a welcoming family pub, lit the fire and seated us beside it when we walked in from a muddy walk with our baby and three dogs. Gorgeous food, amazing chips! Couldn’t help us enough. Thank you for a lovely lunch.

So welcoming!

A lovely old 18th century pub/hotel in Dorset. Dog friendly too. Hospitable hosts, great food, yummy burgers & the best chips we’ve had in a long while. Good breakfast too. Felt welcomed, but Ben our dog was too. The room sadly was a let down, it was small, expensive for what it was and we didn’t manage to sleep due to the noise of a refrigerator unit every 15 minutes just outside our window (room 4)!

Stay in Dorset

If I was rating the chips alone I would have put excellent. Best thick cut crunchy chips I have had in ages. Our hot dog meal was meant for people with big appetites and it was enjoyed.
Contrasts in staff manner made us think there were training issues. We were met by a glum young lady who could not answer our questions about the menu but then a really welcoming efficient young lady took our order.
So more positives than negatives.
