I attended a family wedding at Thornbury Golf Centre and the family made a block booking of rooms at the Lodge. As I am disabled I telephoned well in advance to make sure they had a room suitable for me. I was assured that Room 3 on the ground floor would accommodate my mobility scooter, had a walk in shower and would be kept for me. Nearer the date, when I rang to pay, I was again assured the room was set aside for me. When I arrived the room had been let the previous day to someone else and I was allocated a room on the second floor which I  could not reach. No warning, no explanation, no apology. I sent a detailed letter of complaint. No reply. Be warned.

Fairway or rough?

Dear Sir/madam,
Just though I would drop you a line or two to congratulate you on the standard of service I received while staying with you on Tuesday. The room was a delight. Outstanding In every way. The staff in the golf club were courteous helpful and professional. The food was tasty, well presented and excellent value for money.  Highly recommended.

Stunning location

Booked here cos we were going to chepstow very friendly staff very helpful and rooms were really nice The house has been converted into rooms and done very well plus leaving the outside as original 
Bar and meals were ok and fairly priced considering its a golf club 
Ample car parking too 
Would stay here again if ever in Thornbury again

Our stay

Bed comfortable. Shower door difficult to manoeuvre around. Check in limited times as staff Keane by 8pm. there is no food or drink served after 8pm in this place. Which was not good for us as we had travelled over 200 miles to get here. Check out 10 30am. Again not great after a long journey the night before and then having to find somewhere to eat and drink ! Woken up in morning by staff accessing a store room next to room.
Not worth staying at if you are wanting a place to relax in of evening.

Disappointed and not 4☆ amenities 

This hotel is very good value for money in a lovely location. We stayed in a double room which was very comfortable with a spotless ensuite. We had a good night's sleep as the room was quiet and the bed was comfortable.
We had breakfast in the clubhouse the next morning and they had gluten free options. Staff were very helpful. We would stay here again.

Good value for the money in a lovely location.

Lovely golf course and lovely staff in the golf centre - but my room in the lodge was definitely not up to par!  It would appear that the accommodation is not a priority.  This is supported by the fact that reception is a short walk away in the golf centre and door entry to the accommodation is by entry code.

I stayed in a twin bed room on the ground floor, booked and paid for as double occupancy but in the event my other half was unable to travel so the room was paid for on the basis of double occupancy but only used by one person.    The en suite room had the bare essentials ie twin beds with lovely crisp sheets (but otherwise not a terribly comfortable  mattress); a  dressing table with mirror, and a tv -  but not a working telephone (thank heavens for mobile phones)  or an easy chair, the absence of which means that you sit on the bed or the dining room style chair at the dressing table.   There were no bedside lights or wall lights - only one ceiling light  which, annoyingly,  could only be switched on and off from the door.  The choice is is to leave it on all night (torture) or stub the toes in the dark on the way back from turning the light off.     There was also a wardrobe with safe, iron and ironing board -but a previous occupant  had punched a hole in the side some time previously and this hadn’t been repaired.  Additionally, I  had a dodgy kettle which didn’t always work - not very useful for the morning cuppa!

At least the room was on the ground floor so no problem with dragging a case up the stairs, and unlike some in my party I was not disturbed in the early hours by carousing of other guests.

Having mentioned all this on checkout and was told my comments would be passed to the lodge manager  (not seen over my two night stay) so I am hoping that this was indeed the case.  They also still practice covid safeguards so the room is not serviced during your stay and if you need extra tea and coffee, or amenities  this must be requested in the golf centre.

On the plus side, it’s a beautiful location and reasonably convenient for the town;  the breakfast (not included in the price ) was excellent, and the staff friendly.  What a shame they are let down by the accommodation.

Lovely golf course setting but my room was not up to par!

Great location rooms really nice and clean found all the staff friendly and helpful great golf facilities nice club house /restaurant 10 minutes walk away  you’ll find some great restaurants and pubs can highly recommend the the swan great staff very welcoming

Nice place to stay

I was disappointed that, although there seemed to be very few guests staying, we didn't have a sea view.  Instead we had a view of the back of the driving range.  Although the room was overall very clean, the dark carpet had obvious bleach spills and stains all over, and new carpets were definitely needed.  One of our bath towels had obviously been used to wipe the floor.

Golf weekend

Good accommodation close to town and facilities good, restaurant facilities are aimed at golf course users so could be better, I used local town short walk but no footpath out of the golf course.

The website describes the place as informal.. but on this occasion it was more like the Marie Celeste..no reception ( I arrived at 6.00pm).. a key code to get in.. and a key safe to access for the key to my room. It's an old house and felt a bit spooky..couldn't help wondering if I was the only person there.. perhaps I was. 

When I rang at 4pm to say I'd be a bit after 6.00pm was told about the key arrangements and er..if you want food theres lots of places in Thornbury. Yes..luckily there are.. Hawkes House proving rather good as I write this.. but I don't pay hotel prices to get Travel Lodge treatment. Not good enough... Thornbury  Lodge.. cheap treatment and off hand service at best. I won't be  back.
