Excellent food at bargain prices ! 
We were there on Pie Night ( Thursday ) , and had delicious pies/ mash / mixed veg and returned on Sunday for a roast , huge and wonderful 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. Pork was so good with the biggest tastiest Yorkshire puddings !
Good atmosphere too .

Excellent cheap meals

Impromptu visit as I drive past this establishment every night. I was attracted to their Pie Night which is on a Thursday. Ambience was great, nice comfy tables and chairs. The pies did not disappoint. I can recommend the beef bourguinon (hope I have managed to spell that ok) and my friend enjoyed the chicken and mushroom pie. I’ll certainly be visiting again… advise you to bring an appetite!

Pie Night Thursday

Very good stay, beds comfortable, run out of sachets of milk and owner gave a full pint of milk. Very easy to check in and out. We heard no noise from the pub below. Traffic outside window but ear plugs and eye masks provided. Quiet through the night, we slept with window open but not all rooms are on the road.  No breakfast but croissants and cereal provided. Water/yoghurt/juices in fridge. I've stayed in hotels where the TV is an ornament and doesn't work but not here! Close to everything you would want to see.

We stayed here for two nights to be walking distance from the Three Horseshoes where we were going to see a circus performance.
Due to being late in trying to book somewhere to stay this was the only place in Bradford on Avon which had a room available and what a very pleasant surprise!
The room was beautifully set out and a good size as well as being immaculately  clean and recently modernised. Although it was room only, we had a well stocked fridge with fruit juice, fresh milk and yogurt as well as cornflakes and croissants alongside the usual tea and coffee making facilities. Absolutely perfect!
Although this is a pub on one of the main roads through the town, we weren’t disturbed by traffic noises although there were eye masks and earplugs provided. We were returning late in the evening after closing time so weren’t disturbed by pub noise either.
All in all, a great place to stay for a short visit. 
We will definitely be back and will be sampling your pies menu next time!

Perfect for a short stay

Went in for a few pints with some friends and there was loud bass music playing controlled by a non staff member. When asked to turn it off the local overruled the staff who then just laughed. There were dogs running around pooing on the floor and no sign of any management, just young kids with no backbone. I won’t be returning

Embarrassing

Booked into this accommodation so I could spend some days in the beautiful city of Bradford-on-Avon
Disappointment settle in right away with the entire building, this place is a “dump”

My room was large but other than the television it was dirty, stained carpets, stained mattress, bedside tables with nicks taken out of the wood everywhere, the shower very difficult to regulate the hot water so you don’t get scalded, all fixtures in the bathroom need replaced, thin pull down blinds, cold room at night, mould on the ceiling above the shower, plywood on the floor in the bathroom that was painted but had in terrible condition, bedside table lamps useless and one was broken, the garbage can in the bathroom and beside the wardrobe were not emptied while I was there. 
A positive note would go to the young man who worked the evening shift, he was able to get me a new kettle and was very polite
Every night I checked for available accommodation while there and unfortunately unsuccessfully.

Terrible

I rarely leave bad reviews, but on this occasion I found the level of cleanliness to be so unacceptable, I am sharing what happened here to help other travellers make up their mind, and hope it encourages the new proprietors to seriously up their game.

I've stayed at The Bear before. This pub used to be amazing, friendly locals, staff super friendly, a pub for people who liked real ale, real cider and brilliant home made pies. Hotel upstairs used to be great.

This time on arrival, we walked in to be faced with a group of men watching a sports screen. Sat down ahead of check in to order one of their pies, to discover there are no more pies, but the whole place has changed hands and it is now a pub that serves Indian food (which we love, but there are already good places to eat Indian food locally where you don't have to listen to men getting excited over a sports screen). The large choice of real ciders at the bar had also gone, so we went to another nearby pub for food and came back to check in.

No complains about the check in process, which was very straightforward. When we went into the room I knew straight away that the standard had gone downhill. Room could have done with some TLC, fix the flakey paintwork and the shower needed a clean. See attached pictures showing mould on the shower curtain and shower roof.

Went to sit on the bed, and noticed a stain under the quilt cover. Lifted it and was disgusted to see that someone had thought it was acceptable to put a cover on top of a quilt that was blood-stained. See attached pictures of this.

I was furious and wanted to check out. My partner has far more tolerance than me and asked them to sort it out. They dd sort this out promptly, but I could not get over the fact that if they thought this was an acceptable level of cleanliness to have blood on someone's duvet, what else had they not cleaned? Were the sheets even fresh on?

I wanted to check out immediately and get a refund, but my partner took a 'fairer' view of "they had sorted the problem", and agreed to check out the next day as a compromise (we booked a 3 night stay). I didn't see the point in this as it shows that we've accepted the situation by staying one night, so I ended up tolerating the full 3 nights. I spent every night sleeping on top of my own clothes on the bed.  On check out there was absolutely nobody present, so we left the key in the door and left. Whole place feels like nobody cares about the business or respects that the guests pay money to expect an acceptable level of cleanliness.

Really disappointed about what has happened to this place. We visit Bradford On Avon regularly, but this is one loyal customer who will never stay again.

Used to be brilliant, now terrible!

Booking .com show this as a real ale cider pub, serving pies,with rooms above the photos on the web page are from 2014 the owners are now Indian taken over 7 months ago serving Indian food only!!
There is no central heating so rooms are freezing a small fan heater is provided 
Will not be returning!

Do not be fooled

We booked the hotel for a wedding nearby. Check in time was 5pm, despite repeated emails, no one got back to me about an early check in. Eventually managed to speak to someone on the phone who refused to allow early check in, refused to allow us to leave our luggage there in the morning. Generally very unhelpful. On arrival, no pleasantries, just a reminder that we needed to pay. Bed was uncomfortable, room was generall dusty and run down. The worst was the bathroom. Black mould along the ceilings, shower unusable due to black mould covering the shower head. No parking on site, unhelpful when I asked where was best to park. No one on site to check you out. Very minor but to access the inn you have to go downs a small alley filled with smelly bin bags - just added to the general experience.  On the plus side however, the room was large, and the location is good, close to the town centre. But not enough positives to make me ever want to stay here again! 

Mouldy shower... 

We booked to stay here largely because of the well-reviewed homemade pies...there are none! The pub has changed hands which, in hindsight, was clear through their own website but not the summary on here or the booking site. They now serve curry but we didn’t try it. 

The main bedroom we had looked nice enough - clean and big. However the heating was broken - they provided a fan heater which helped but wasn’t ideal. This was noisy if we had it on at night, but if we turned it off we could hear the annoying noise of the fridge (a nice thought as an extra with water, yoghurt and milk supplied but not well thought out noise wise). The first night we stayed wasn’t too bad but on the second night there was a lot of noise coming from the pub downstairs. You’d expect a bit of noise staying in a pub but this was right below us and went on until at least 2am. 

The bathroom was poor too - the corners of the shower were mouldy, as were parts of the ceiling. The glass panels in the shower weren’t clean. The plug hole in the sink was brown and had clearly not been cleaned properly in a long time. The spotlight in the ceiling was dangling from the socket with wires hanging out. The flooring was tatty too. 

The guest entry / exit to the accommodation was cluttered with things - there were cleaning products and other junk that surely didn’t need to be there. Not the most welcoming. 

Not a good stay. We won’t be returning.
