Horrifying! Booked a six-bed room for a girl's night away in Belfast. Arrived home at 3. In the space of fifteen minutes, two gentlemen entered our room on two separate occasions and were verbally abusive and aggressive. These men entered the bedroom despite the door locking (we checked it earlier in the afternoon). They somehow had access to our room codes. The hostel guarantees room door codes are to be changed regularly for the safety of guests. Highly unsafe. We checked out of the hostel at 3:40 am with nowhere to go. We deemed a night on the streets of Belfast to be safer than remaining in the hostel. Truthfully, cannot recommend this hostel purely on the basis of poor security measures, a most basic requirement.

Disgusting 

One of the worst experiences I have ever had. Thursday night was a disaster, three Indians don’t belong this room but occupied a bed and chatting until midnight. So many homeless people live in the hostel make the hostel really crowded. But to be fair, the situation on weekend nights is much better. But if you arrive in Belfast on weekdays, just tried another place to live.

Tried to avoid this hostel in weekdays

The worst hostel I’ve stayed in ever, dirty, cramped room (crackhouse vibe) I got the impression many of the residents were semi homeless needing a place to live. No Washing machine as advertised. Just seen their advertising breakfast but didnt see this there. Smoke alarms definitely are not up to spec. On the last night there was a fight between a couple of homeless/residents, one got hit on the head with a guitar and a trail of-blood was still there in the morning. Police were there when I left.

Avoid

I was surprised by how cramped it felt, the general odour of smoke throughout as the smoking area backs onto permanently open window as it's got a wire fixed through. Lockers in bedroom of 6, 2 broken locks, 2 had locks on from previous guests. No curtains on beds as shown in promo photos, nor window, so wake up with the sun! No individual bed lights, but have plug sockets. Shower swaps between burning hot and cold, with a very low flow, I had better rain shower. 

Kitchen basic but good, dining room good. Lounge room gets full sun in morning. 

 With a few repairs  and a bit of love this 
 place would be good. 

Needing repairs and love 

I've stayed in a lot of hostels over the years, some great, others not so great. But I have never checked out of a hostel within 20 minutes of arriving.

The staff were helpful and let me store my bag as I arrived in Belfast early, however when I went back and checked in, I was told that my room was top of the stairs on one side of the hostel but the working bathroom was upstairs on the other side of the building. I walked up 3/4 flights of stairs to a 4 person room that was not particularly clean. My bed was under a skylight which had no blind or cover, and the bed was not comfy. I realised to go to the bathroom I would have to walk back down to ground floor, through reception and then up the other stairs.

I decided not to stay and spent a few minutes looking for alternative accommodation and then checked out. Staff did ask if there was an issue but at that point there was nothing they could have done to make me stay.

The hostel is 15/20 minute walk from City Hall and Europa bus station. It is close to Botanic Gardens and Queens University.

Checked out without staying

The Pictures on the Internet don't show reality. The showers were full of mold, the kitchen is dirty, disgusting fridge and damaged furniture. Well, the straff does clean, but the hostel definitely doesn't fulfill the standards (every health authority would close it). And, the most shocking experience: I had bugs in my bed and now I am driving to a hopefully better hostel with around 40 stitches all over my body. Thanks for that horrible experience, never again. 
The volunteers working there were very kind and tried to help me, but in my opinion the state of this hostel is a No-Go.

Lagan Backpackers Hostel: never again

This is my first ever experience of using hostel! And will never ever again! The most disgusting place Ive ever seen! We’re supposed to stay for 3 nights, but it was so unbearable after one night, we had to leave! Everything was so dirty! The room was dirty and mouldy! The toilets are not all functional knowing that the place caters plenty of backpackers, and most of all was the kitchen! it was horridly disgusting!! Very disgusting that until now it gives me goosebumps! Thank This place needs to close! I don’t think this place should be allowed to operate!

This Place Should Not Operate!

Stayed for a night and luckily it wasn't more than that. The bunk beds are old and do need to be replaced - makes squeaky noise at every turn. There were two bunk beds in the room i stayed, lucky there was only one other guest. The rooms are very tight with not soo much floor space. Bathroom are also run down and really needs some attention to. The entire hostel could do with a complete make-over. I guess - what you pay for is what you get. Don't get your hopes high for the price you are paying.. i had a early morning check out so didn't stay for breakfast so cant comment.

Budget Stay - What you pay for is what you get!

You get what you get for I guess. It was one of the cheapest options in Belfast to stay at. We had the room of 4. The room was dusty, small and the beds were squeaky and semi comfortable. 
The staff were nice and polite, no issue with check in. The location is also acceptable.

This stay went from bad to worse!! Immediately on arrival, we were greeted with hostility. Despite the 24/7 reception service advertised on the website, we were threatened that we might not be able to check in. As a group of 6 girls, presumptions appeared to be made very soon on arrival and our deposit was threatened if we were “too loud”. 
The nightmare continued when we got to the room, the  floor boards we’re not intact and as for the beds we may as well have slept on the floor boards. To my horror, I pulled back the duvet to discover what looked like pubic hair in my bed. 
To make things worse, the bathroom was nothing short of being violent. Think again if you want to maintain basic hygiene needs as these will not be met with a trickle of water that came from the shower and the absence of toilet paper. Thank god we were only staying for 2 nights as if any longer, we would have been at risk of acquiring a respiratory illness from the black mould everywhere!! It should be noted that if you do plan on staying at this Kip, do bring flip flops to prevent a disease from going from bedroom to bathroom. 
As for the ‘complimentary breakfast’, do yourself a favour and steer clear. To start, the bread was mouldy, the jam was rock solid and a member of staff recommended I put a metal thongs into the toaster to retrieve my toast. To finish off the breakfast, that same staff member awkwardly stood over us while we washed the dishes making the whole situation extremely uncomfortable. 
Just when we thought the horrible experience was coming to an end, we received poor customer service on departure and overall an unsatisfactory experience. 
Let’s put it this way, there’s more than one ‘Filthy McNastys’ in Belfast.
