A great stay. Its a Travelodge so if youre looking for luxary then this probably isnt for you but if you're looking for a place to sleep after a day exploring then this is absolutely for you. A great location, polite staff, comfy bed & all of the basics of a hotel room at a reasonable price. We chose this hotel due to the onside parking.. I couldn't find much information on the parking before we went so let me share what I know now.. there was plenty of parking available (Thursday, friday) & parking is strictly for hotel guests only. £8.50 per 24 hours and you can pay for up to 3 days at once. Pay for your parking at the machine directly outside the reception doors via Contactless payment or download the parking app. Once you've paid for parking make sure you type your reg in on the Tablet to the right of the reception desk (if you don't register at reception after paying for parking you could get a fine as they can't verify that you're a hotel guest). You do get 30 mins Grace period between parking up and paying/registering too.

Great place to stay, parking available and a short walk to the center

Upon arrival I requested to the gentleman on reception a quiet room explaining my husband had just finished a week of night shifts and had driven straight to Bath after his shift and needed a couple of hours rest to recharge and freshen up I was assured this was a quiet room unfortunately this wasn't the case the room allocated 121 was right next to the main road by the traffic lights. I went to reception and explained to the lovely lady on reception our situation and that the room was not suitable to our needs and was immediately offered a lovely room overlooking the lake 118 it was very quiet thank you to the lovely lady on reception excellent customer service. The rooms have been revamped and new mattresses very comfortable beds. My only issue was no glasses in the room should we need a cold drink only mugs. But it didn't affect our stay.

Birthday treat

Whilst this Travelodge has many positives unfortunately whilst staying I suffered a frightening event which sadly spoilt my visit .On the second evening of a stay ,with a friend in the room next door ,I was sitting checking emails at the desk when there was a rattle of the door and a man walked in whilst I was alone.
I did shout for him to leave which he did eventually.I  was very shaken up as he had an activated key card.My friend and I went to reception and I spoke with the duty manager.It was clear that there was a problem with the hotel systems from the chat between her and the receptionist ,we were offered the opportunity to swop rooms for the second night but the system was showing ours to be available!So the same event could of happened to my friend.I was offered a refund for one evening .I was very upset and anxious and we then had the inconvenience of packing up all our luggage to move.The second night was a ground floor room and although I bolted the door I had very little sleep when there were noises outside in the corridor.Yes ,this Travelodge has the potential to be great but a basic must be safety of travellers especially women on their own.

Frightening event.

This hotel is extremely poor. We expected a better standard from a chain like Travelodge but this hotel has seen better days and it is obvious they have given up on any meaningful maintenance long ago… a very dated and shabby hotel indeed for a hotel in this price bracket. 

We were placed in a far flung wing near the river and had a group of homeless people partying with alcohol and loud music on the river path under our window. The electronic security lock on the door to the lobby of our wing wasn’t even working and when I reported it staff told me it had been broken for three days and they were waiting to have it fixed. The slovenly staff on the whole were largely disinterested and unhelpful. There wasn’t even a phone in the room so I had to ask for the hotel number to be written down
 on a piece of paper in case we needed assistance during the night. 

No welcome pack in the room detailing any services offered by the hotel or local sights etc. , no pay tv channels just a small monitor positioned on a bracket high on the wall. At least the beds were reasonably clean and we did end up having a good nights sleep but overall impression was very negative. We paid for breakfast and it was just lousy. Fruit salad was chunky bits of fruit cut up which had gone off floating in a bowl of water. I reported it to two waiters and nothing was done to replace it. Kitchen staff just going through the motions. Unless you don’t have any other options steer clear of this dive. Note photo makes it look better than it is.
Not in the same league as the lovely Holiday Inn we stayed at the night before for similar money.

Steer clear of this dive!

Firstly the good. Stayed here a couple of nights with some friends, as a base camp to explore Bath. Quick check-in and room was usual Travelodge ‘could be anywhere’ layout, but not necessarily a bad thing. Unpacked and went down to bar / restaurant. Totally impressed by Josh and Woody (who were front of house). Friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble for these guys. Made us feel welcome, advised us on the menu for dinner, as my wife is gluten-free and hence needed safe options. All four meals were very nice, plenty of it and OK it wasn’t Michelin star, but £14 each for 2 courses, it was good VFM. Shout out also for Amy (in the kitchen) for a tasty dinner and it all arrived nice and hot.

Just a couple of suggestions for room. No bath mat for bathroom, so had to sacrifice a towel, as vinyl floor got soaked from sink and shower. Would also suggest a table or stand for overnight bag, to stop having to use armchair, but otherwise OK. 

Now the bad. Room above making huge amounts of noise, stomping around like they all had pit boots on! Room overlooked the car park, which also had linen collection delivery point directly below our window. 6.30am, we had linen trolleys rattling back and forth, loading into trucks and the driver with ‘Greatest Hits Radio’ on at full blast, with his door open. Not a welcome alarm call when on a break with no need to have an early alarm call! Maybe just bad luck on the room allocation, but on a week day, the car park had a steady stream of people exiting the hotel, shouting to each other across the car park and generally pandemonium after they had finished breakfast - which brings me on to the next point!

Breakfast, all you can eat for £10.55 and kids under 15 eat free. Both mornings we struggled to get breakfast at 08:30. In fact on our second morning, we gave up and left to eat elsewhere. The WHOLE RESTAURANT looked like it had been occupied by New Age travellers! Families all sprawled across the tables, wrapped in duvets and most still wearing pyjamas, with HUGE amounts of plates of food, some eaten, most wasted, scattered across the tables. It looks like these people were taking the ‘all you can eat’ as a personal challenge, as they certainly seemed determined to get their money’s worth! On the first morning, we had to ask the staff for more bread, for more scrambled egg, cups for coffee, glasses for juice, plates  for food, as the entire breakfast areas looked like it had been decimated by a plague of locusts! Had we not already paid, we would have turned on our heels and walked straight out…… we did on day #2 as it was just the same, arguably worse! The staff were running round like the proverbial blue-ar5ed flies, but were fighting a losing battle against the AYCE brigade!

I am no snob, but this was more like a drop-in centre than a hotel restaurant! Come on Travelodge, you need to sort this out and at least exercise some control over reasonable consumption and how long people are encouraged to stay for breakfast. I saw several other people arrive in the restaurant, survey the scene, look at each other and head straight back out. Not an image I would hope that Travelodge wants to project for its ‘Cafe 85’ concept?!

Lastly the baffling. The number of Travelodge team members on duty at any one time  during the breakfast and evening shifts was absolutely woeful! I counted 2 and maybe 3 on each shift. With the number of guests to serve and the running around between bar, kitchen, restaurant and back again, I suspect this is a cost saving exercise by Travelodge on people costs. BIG mistake, as customer service is suffering and I suspect so is staff morale. For what you charge, you could put more staff on and if they are not serving, they could be doing something else constructive?

Would I stay again? Maybe I would, but I would make sure I had sussed out somewhere else to eat breakfast and also be savvy enough to ask for a room overlooking the river, or canal, or somewhere where we wouldn’t get a 6am reveille!

The good, the bad and the baffling!

Hotels in the town itself are cheaper than the tavellodge and food and comfort probably better. Only thing going for travellodge Bath waterside is the parking and you have to pay for that.
Quality of breakfast was appalling, coffee machines didnt work, food that should be warm was cold, cold food was warm. ambience was like an industrial canteen.

no longer value for money/

The hotel is in an excellent location, a short walk from Bath’s city centre. Rooms were comfortable and clean. There was some door banging noise earlier in the night. Breakfast was a total fiasco, there was no preparation, they ran out of everything. Additional food items were brought out one at a time with a long delay. Many very unhappy customers.

Room good, breakfast a disaster

Given the location of this Travel Lodge, it is hugely disappointing that the building is filthy and the breakfast experience was like a bad day at the zoo.  Cold food, broken coffee machines, piles of dirty plates across all tables and no cutlery to eat what little food remained (at 0900)

Horrendous

Excellent choice for spending more than a day trip to enjoy the lovely city of Bath. Clean and comfortable, great location. Spacious bedroom and bathroom. We had a good buffet breakfast before our second day of Bath exploration.

Short stay Bath

Our room was NOTHING like the picture on the website. Smelly, dirty, mouldy walls, dirty bathroom taps, dead insects everywhere. The site is an absolute tip outside. No hot water - was promised to be looked at within 5 minutes, nobody bothered to come. We had to leave without washing or showering - and a MASSIVE £187.50 for ONE NIGHT! The Hotel Manager is not authorised for refunds.
