we arrived early i went in and asked if we could check in early the owner a lovely gentleman said let me just check if your room is ready 2 minutes later he came back into reception and said i will show you to your room 
 it was out the back of the hotel in the annexe he opened the door and said if there is anything you want let us know 
  i was a bit dubious because of some of the reviews 
  but we wnt into our room lovely and clean 2 single beds and a double bed loads of space drawers and a wardrobe it was great 
  once we had unpacked we went into the pub and again the owner sorted us out to get to Barry Island as Gavin and Stacy are filming 
 we then drove to watch CARDIFF V PANTHERS ice hockey 
 on returning to the hotel the 4 of us were greeted again by the owner and the barmaid plus the locals they were so friendly 
  to say what we paid for a lovely room at a price of £17.50 per person it was fantastic
 i was quoted £71.50 per person in Cardiff 
 if you want a lovely hotel cheap and pleasant this is the PLACE

hotel is great

Checking in was a bit of a struggle the bloke behind the desk couldent see our booking thought we stayed the day before and didnt seem to get out of his chair, Room was clean and quite big out by the garden the only let down about the room was the double bed needs a new mattress  no curtains on the front door or blind  in bathroom no cover over light on the bathroom ceiling  thats showing the wires and bulb  kettle to big so you cant fill it up from the sink no mirror in the bedroom as soon as its get light the room is lit up as the curtains dont seem to do anythink in the bedroom and the light shines through the front door  ( and being opp the garden you can see figures and shapes at the bathroom window and front door) parking was fine no problem wi fi is a no go signal very poor couldent eben get it on the bar had to go to the little bit of reception to get it

Night stay

We booked here only because we knew some scenes from Gavin and Stacey had been filmed here.
The hotel is dated , but that adds to its charm.
Great price, great welcome and very clean . We were very comfortable and would stay here again . The parking was a bonus .
The locals were happy to tell us all about Gavin and Stacey and the crew who they had met .

Hidden gem

Room very spacious, with plenty of drawers for storage with a built in cupboard. Mattresses of poor quality, room was not cleaned our entire visit, except for providing us with a clean bin liner (we took our rubbish out ourselves) no clean towels provided. No chair or mirror in room. Toilet was poor to flush, shower had no water pressure, no blind or net curtain on bathroom window so lacked privacy. Location of hotel fab.

Great location.

We had a double room on the second floor booke for 2 nights. Ensuite, double bed, TV clean. There were no wardrobes but an alcove with two coat hangers. Staff very friendly and offered to carry bags up stairs. I said we could do with a few more hangers, and within minutes she was at the door with more. I asked if we could have a couple of chairs and within minutes they were provided, Tea and coffee provided but no kitchen facilities. We were told they nearly never survived Covid and justgetting back on their feet. Welcome to purchase food several takeaways local and bar staff provide clean crockery and eating utensils. They even opened up the lounge for us so we hade somewhere quiet to eat. Bar staff friendly, prices reasonable, £4 a pint. We were made to feel welcome and at home, they waved us goodbye. It is budget but warm clean friendly, locals too. We would stay a gain good value.

Pleasantly surprised having seen other reviews I read before visiting

A nice place to stay for a few nights. Beds were not the comfiest, but once you get used to them, they're okay.Staff were nice, and there's plenty of shops nearby for whatever you need.

Very nice

The room we had was spacious, very clean, decorated in neutral colours and very comfortable. It was lovely and bright in the day and dark in the evening. It was the best night sleep away from home we have had. The staff were friendly, helpful and kind. The facilities were spacious and clean and a lovely hot shower. Highly recomend a stay!

The room is big enough, but the shower is poor flow and not hot enough. No wifi available in the room and public area despite the website saying there was.

Great budget hotel. Enormous room, clean and recently decorated. Mattress a little soft for my taste but tremendous value

Great price for a reasonable room in Cardiff, staff were helpful and very friendly.
