Very poor Sunday lunch. No real ale even though they had 3 different pumps! ...how can you run out of beer? Lunch was overpriced, cold, small portions. Chicken was under cooked. Lots of items on menus unavailable...probably due to same person who completes stock control on the beer! I would definitely not return...gone down hill. You can do better elsewhere.

Pie very cold , saute potatoes burnt , veg cold  only thing was warm gravy.
Won't be back   felt sorry for Manager lovely man trying to please but needs experienced chef   price not cheap but willing to pay if good

I stayed in the George V11 room which was immaculate and very well appointed, with walk in shower and roll top bath,

Perfect stay

We used to visit The George regularly, but haven't been for a year or so. 

Five of us pre-booked and expressly asked to be seated in the conservatory (where we always sat before). The booking was confirmed, but when we arrived, no tables were set in the conservatory, After checking at the bar, we were told we could sit there, and that the table would be made up for us. We sat down and went to order some pre-dinner drinks and set up a tab - only to be told that we couldn't do that is unless we sat in the bar area (we even offered to leave a bank card behind the bar!). After moving inside to another table (where we didn't want to be), we were presented with a very limited menu. Two of us ordered chicken and ham hock pie - only to be told that they didn't have any. We ended up with a dry chicken schnitzel served with a little gem lettuce and some bland salad dressing. The chips were the only good part of the meal. My wife chose a haloumi salad which was very insubstantial.

Service was painfully slow, but the plates were eventually cleared away.

We were sat facing a blackboard advertising "a hot drink and mini pudding" but when we tried to order it, we were told "we don't do that any more" (so why not remove the board???). I eventually opted for a fruit crumble, which was good.

When the bill came, we asked to split it three ways (which we have done many times here and elsewhere with no issues) but were told that one person would have to pay the full amount and sort it out (by bank transfer) with the others!

It's a lovely pub, but, under the new owners,  customer-service is clearly based on the Fawlty Towers model.

We'll go to the Rising Sun next time!

Not what is used to be.

I booked a table for our wedding anniversary using the Open Table app for a Saturday evening. We arrived to be told they weren't doing food, as they had condemned the kitchen two days before. This is after me receiving a confirmation request email from Open Table the day before. Apparently they had tried to contact me, but despite having my phone number and email address, they couldn't. So we sat there with an overpriced drink, watching a stream of people being told there was no food. A simple sign on the door would have been good, but instead we were having to queue at the bar to find out. We ended up going to the Rising Sun at the other end of Backwell, which is by far the better pub and will definitely be getting our custom again. The George will not.

Not recommended

Terrible experience! Booked 3 rooms weeks in advance (plus another 2 rooms booked separately) and check in was advertised as 14:00, our party arrived at around 18:00 to be told the rooms hadn’t been cleaned yet, and no indication of time they would be ready. The staff seemed to have no idea of what was going on and just kept telling us ‘there’s nothing we can do we’re short staffed’. There was no manager on site and nobody who was able to help us. The rooms were eventually ‘ready’ at around 19:15. We had travelled for a surprise party we were attending in Nailsea and this made all of us late and missing the time we were due to arrive. 

Once in the rooms it was clear they had been rushed and were all in need of a deep clean and some TLC. Thick dust on skirting boards, stained carpets covered in bits, dirty shower screens, splatters down the walls and just generally very very grubby. It’s obvious they’ve not been properly cleaned in a long time. The girl that was there cleaning was doing the best she could but had told us that she hadn’t been called in until well after 14:00 when the rooms should have been ready. If we didn’t have somewhere to be, and hadn’t paid in advance, we most definitely would have found somewhere else to stay. 

In the morning we opened the window to let in some fresh air, as the rooms were very warm, only to find our room was above the staff smoking area. It instantly made our room stink of cigarette smoke as well as hearing the staff swearing and hollering below. Breakfast consisted of some pre packed pastries and dirty glasses for the juice, we had to go and ask for some clean glasses from the bar. 

The ‘manager’ was on site the following morning sat in the bar area. He was apparently aware of the issues but made no effort to come over to us with an apology or any solution or even bother to make contact with us. When we approached him all he kept repeating was ‘I apologise but were short staffed, there’s nothing I can do’. THATS YOUR JOB AS A MANAGER! I fully appreciate that things happen, it’s life and things don’t always go to plan, but it’s the way things are dealt with. We received zero communication in advance to say there may be a delay with our room, this would have enabled us to make alternate plans etc. He then told us that it would be the same situation that evening for other guests arriving, with no indication of him or the other members of staff on site making any effort to solve the the situation and start cleaning rooms ready. They basically did not really care. 

Overall a terrible experience and would not stay here or recommended to anyone. If you want a clean room and a decent nights stay head to the Rising Sun down the road!

Terrible!

Two nights in a noisy room, when breakfast arrived it was greasy and not very nice at all, second day they only had one egg and no bread, don’t charge high prices for poor service and it would be a good idea to clean the rooms properly and replenish the facilities.
I’m surprised if you get return Buisness, I won’t stay there again and rarely have to give such bad feedback… awful

Two nights

I was informed that I would be able to access my room after the pub had closed, however the key provided did not work in the outside lock and I was locked out, there was no out of hours number and I was forced to sleep in the car. I was eventually let in by another guest at 08:30 in the morning and after a quick shower and change tried to speak to someone before had to leave for work ( at this point I was late for a meeting).
I asked to speak to the manager who by then had arrived, but was told they were too busy, but was assured they would contact me via email. Four days later no contact has been made, no apology and no refund.

Locked out of my room for the night due to being given the wrong key, no follow up customer service after complaint

After phoning the hotel to say we wouldn’t arrive until after midnight, we were assured it was no problem as they had a night porter. 
Our flight was delayed 2 hours and on arrival at the George no one was about…. certainly NO NIGHT PORTER. We phoned the hotel NO reply. We then had a 4 hour drive home.
We left a not on the hotel desk and took a picture to prove we had been there.
The Hotel said when I complained they had left a key on the desk with our name on and it was right above the note I left. 
I’ve a got a pictures (see below) we took of the desk and guess what NO KEY WHATSOEVER. They refused a refund….

Don’t bother

Room lovely , bed very comfortable shower not draining properly, Breakfast terrible no tea coffee first morning buns croissants no hot drinks  Second morning no coffee no tea buns left from day before arrived all good in room nice cookies second morning did not even make the bed  No clean towels will not stay again photo of breakfast
