Where to start? Despite having a sign up that requests that "if you have and complaints or issues please inform staff of these prior to leaving" it would have been nice to have seen some staff for longer than 5 minutes otherwise I would have attempted to inform them of the issues... and still have posted this review.

The only modern feeling convenience was the shower, other than that the place barely felt clean. The glasses available in the room had dirt in them and were dirty anyway. The TV was dark and the remote control barely worked. The toilet looked like it was last cleaned in the late 90's. There were gaps between the window frame and the wall to outside, so there was a constant draught coming into the room. The beds were uncomfy to say the least mainly because staying stable upon them was a task in itself and I weigh less than 190lbs (for someone 6'3" this is reasonable). The breakfast is from the cafe next door and I was happy to have it there as getting out of the Cornerstone was one of the best parts of the place.

Other than that the fire alarm went off and myself, and 2 other residents, were stuck waiting for the owner to appear for over an hour despite trying the numbers  provided (to no response) and the fire service appearing. This was at 3am and, as the lead fireman suggested, extremely dangerous, much to the protestations of the owner that the alarm had been checked only last week...

I really would not suggest staying there ever, to anyone.

Unclean and unsafe

Good points: Bed was comfy and plenty of tea and coffee supplied. 

Bad points: Pillows old and lumpy, no breakfast, room was not particularly clean, remote was filthy, stained pillowcase. Wine bar only a few metres away, loud music playing until gone midnight.

No Sleep

Do not go here the owner is a fraudster and over charges the rooms have leaks and the people are loud and obnoxious we had a random intoxicated man knock on our door at 2am shouting. Not only that the manager who’s there is mean and will happily shout about you over the phone to his boss horrible place.

Don’t go here it’s a scam

I imagined stupidly that this was a charming BandB run by a nice couple; it isn’t. It’s a money-making machine for an avaricious owner. How can this advertise as a BandB when the breakfast is a fry-up in the greasy spoon next door? And our £100 room had NO WINDOW! Just another box in the owner’s money-making plan. OUTRAGEOUS! How can people get away with such false advertising-avoid the internet if at all possible.

Terrible

Stay away from this place, I would have moved out on the first night if I had not paid in advance, I had a long day at work leaving my home at 4 am, did a full days Work and then was woken by the television in Next Door‘s room on full blast, it was a homeless person they had taken in and she could not see what the problem was when I went round to ask her to turn it off, the place seems To be a haven for down and out, second night I slept reasonably well apart from a few banging doors, third night I was woken at one a M by some woman in the corridor threatening to kill her partner and then at five a M I was greeted by a man banging on the door with a Tin of Stella in his hand wanting to get in to see his mate, nothing more than a doss house, I won’t ever be staying there again

Avoid at all costs!

We came to Cornerstone after booking a very disappointing holiday in a local holiday park. We booked it in a panic as we had nowhere to stay that night and it was getting on for 8pm. We managed to book 2 rooms (one for the kids and one for us) at a reasonable rate. 
When we arrived, we found the rooms clean and spacious with good facilities.  Our room included a microwave and small fridge freezer. The rooms were opposite each other and we were the only two rooms on that level meaning we could prop open the doors and have an apartment style feel to the area. 

Jerry the owner was welcoming and helpful. He has a lovely Irish calming influence and nothing seemed too much for him. He even sorted plates and cutlery for us so we could feed the kids. He was also quick to respond to any issues we had and sorted them immediately.  

The ensuite bathrooms were equipped with proper sized toiletries with decent shampoo and shower gels. The towels were clean and fluffy and the rooms were warm. 

Thank you Jerry for saving our holiday.  We had a great stay. 

Lovely welcoming place

Old building full of character, friendly staff. We arrived very early as in 10.30 am hoping to drop off cases but was shown to our room which was ready. We asked about disabled parking and she immediately asked the cafe next door to move staff car. Breakfast was in cafe next door which was ok. For what we paid was good value for money and right in the middle of town

A stopover to break down the travelling

This was honestly one of the worst rooms I’ve ever stayed in. If Ashford had more options I would’ve left and gladly paid a different hotel for a room. The newest review was on the same day actually and I second her opinion on room 11 but fortunately I didn’t have that same experience she did with the land lady. I would like to add that the broken window still wasn’t addressed. The bed I slept on sink so low my butt was lower than my knees and there was dried blood stains on the sheet and a pillow. Also the wall by my bed looked dirty and moldy and unsurprisingly I woke up with a terribly runny nose. This is my first negative review I have ever left BUT I feel like the conditions in that room were unacceptable especially for the rate paid. Would management be comfortable staying in that room? I doubt it and if so their standards aren’t high enough to be in this business.

Extremely Uncomfortable

Upon arrival for our 3 days for business after our 3 hour commute, noticed it was not clean and a broken window in the bathroom when if it rains water would definitely be pouring in. Also noticed the last people to stay had left some of there shampoos and soap in the shower and the staff left them. Room was very cold not to mention when you sat on the bed how I felt the mattress was going to fold up on me. Our second day there I wasn’t well and my partner left for work. He told me the landlady called and said we needed to move rooms today. I thought strange. He came back bringing me food and told a member of staff how I wanted to speak to the landlady. Later she came and knocked on my door and I told her I’d come see her later as I wasn’t dressed. Few minutes passed and I was getting dressed she came back and knocked on the door asking me if I was ready to talk. I said no as I’m not dressed yet. She said you told me that earlier and I don’t believe you I’m coming in. She opened the door as I am standing naked. Humiliated and mortified I immediately shut the door and she opened it again. I shut it again and told her I was calling my husband and the police. She stated we needed to move rooms because she had this one booked due tonight   We were checking out the next morning. I finished getting. I finished getting dressed and packed and my husband came back to the room and the landlady followed him up saying she wants us to leave. Which we obviously were!  NO apology for opening my door when she was told through the door I was naked not once but twice. Never have I ever had this happen nor been so embarrassed and humiliated in my life!!! She was extremely RUDE !! I advise everyone steer clear of this place and her!!! Only have a 1 because 0 wasn’t an option!

Never been so humiliated....

I booked this for a two night stay to visit friends in the area.  The close proximity to the train station and town was appealing and of course it was reasonably priced.

We had room 4 and no it wasn't luxury but it was clean and comfortable,  I did not pay luxury prices so wasn't expecting a 5 star room.  The shower worked adequately and the bed was comfy.  

We booked the breakfast which is in the cafe next door, which was a decent breakfast, we did manage to park at the rear of the building but we were aware this parking was not guaranteed.

We had friendly and pleasant conversation with Jerry who was most welcoming and helpful.  All in all I paid £70.00 a night for a £70.00 a night hotel which in our opinion was perfectly acceptable for the money they charged.

Beware the early wake up call from the church bells!!!
Would book again!!
