Lovely hostel run by super friendly and helpful people! The location is beautiful. Close to the Cumbria trail, a good 1h hike to the foot of the Langdale Pikes or to Ambleside (approx. hourly buses go to both). Clean and very nice common room and kitchen.

Lovely hostel, friendly staff, great location

Wow - this hostel was not only perfectly located and stunningly beautiful, but it was spotlessly clean. I honestly can’t fault it at all. The staff were welcoming, knowledgable and friendly, the breakfast was delicious, the facilities were fabulous and the rooms were comfortable and airy and spacious. If you e never tried staying in a hostel then I would absolutely recommend this one.

Book it - don’t even give it a second thought!

Really is a home from home! The staff were friendly and welcoming, the rooms and facilities were really clean and I would 100% go back again! Views from the room were also stunning and some lovely walks near by e.g. slaters bridge and cathedral cave.

Home from home

I’ve been lucky enough to have stayed at this hostel many times over the years. The staff all remembered me and were so friendly and helpful - as they are with new guests too. It is a warm and comfortable hostel with a great drying room and in a lovely location. I prepared my own food in the self catering kitchen but the hostel meals looked very good, and there is a pub nearby. Although there is no car parking on site there are good car parks nearby, the nearest being free for National Trust members. There are excellent walks from the doorstep or by bus or car to Old and New Dungeon Ghyll.  Try as I might I can’t think of anything negative to say except I didn’t have the best weather…..   I look forward to my next visit!

A lovely return

Elterwater Hostel has it all: perfect location, excellent facilities and everything you need to create special memories.

I spent a wonderful weekend here at the hostel in February with a group of friends. The hostel - located in the heart of the Lakes - provided the perfect base for us all to enjoy our weekend. 

Mornings started with us tucking into breakfast prepared in the well appointed kitchen, planning our route for the day and sipping on a coffee, watching the morning haze slowly dissipate from the valley in front of us - the Langdales providing the perfect backdrop.

After a long day out and about followed by a pint at the Britannia Inn, we were able to wind down in the dining/living room which, was the ideal place for us all to congregate, eat meals together, and play games until the early hours.

Thoroughly tired, we could retire to our rooms knowing that we would be sleeping in some of the comfiest beds I've ever slept in, hostels aside.

I have such fond memories of my time at the hostel and cannot wait for my next visit.

Elterwater Hostel has it all

I was warmly welcomed by the friendly, helpful staff, and had a really comfortable stay. I particularly appreciated the cosy gas fire that was turned on for my benefit after a miserably wet day out on the fells.

A Home from Home in Elterwater

The location, personal welcome and info by the reception staff, food and walkers athmosphere make this one of the nicest hostels I've stayed in  the UK.   The walk from Grasmere to the village is surprisingly beautiful (every hike is beautiful in the Lake district, but this walk is very unknown and easy)

Comfortable hostel with personal welcome in great surroundings

Warm welcome from Pete and very clean hostel throughout. The breakfast was great so was worth booking as were the packed lunches . Large shared bathroom was kept really clean, stocked up and the showers were good. Great location to set off for a days hiking .  Beds were surprisingly comfy too . Rooms are small but adequate enough with 2 usb charge ports each on a shelf by your bed . All in all a more affordable way to stay in the lake District if you're on a budget and with a group of friends 

Great!

Very friendly staff,  very clean, great kitchen for self caterers, smooth booking, good starting point for many trails and some local hikes and discoveries around, easy to park. Will be back soon! 🙏

Lovely place to stay for the weekend. Our 6 bed room was roomy enough even with 6 females and other unnecessary stuff with us 😂
We enjoyed the cooked breakfasts. Very plentiful and sets you up for the day.
It was lovely to see lots of pretty mugs in the kitchen to use better than having to put up with a small cup. Lots of fridges and shelving available to store your own personal food if self catering.  We loved the place and will be back .
