I went here for a solo break for 3 nights.  The room was warm and cosy with comfortable bedding.  All parts of the building were exceptionally clean and the standard of decoration is high.  I was particularly impressed with the entrance way which is painted and lit in a warm, cosy way when arriving at night.  Arrangements can be made for late arrival using a key safe, which worked perfectly.  Breakfast was plentiful and tasty.  It's not a tiny place, I would guess about 15-20 bedrooms overall, but it still has an intimate feel to it.  All areas feel warm and well insulated.  One room (which I didn't try out) looked lovely - a nice front sitting room to relax with a cuppa in the big bay window area.  The drying room is also a nice touch which is usually lacking in B&B accomodation.  On my visit, there was no problem parking in their own carpark (perhaps 5-6 capacity).  The place is very well located with all sorts of restaurants a short walk away.

It was alright. The bed was comfortable and breakfast was OK (except the sausages, which weren't very typical and not particularly nice). Car park was handy and whilst there was nothing wrong with it, we didn't feel it was very welcoming.

They really need to sort out their booking process. We booked, gave all our info, then a couple of days later had to do online check-in giving all the same info again. Was told by email that this was compulsory. This is a small hotel in the Lake District, not the Holiday Inn Heathrow. Online checking seems an unnecessary hassle.

The Gables is situated in a perfect location for visiting Ambleside and the Lake District, we were greeted by the owner who carried our bags in for us and made us a pot of tea, a very nice welcome. There is limited parking on site but spaces easy to find close by. Our rooms were very clean and comfortable. Would definitely recommend if visiting the lakes.

A fantastic guest house in a great location.  Rooms were very very clean and the hosts were so attentive.
My partner and I have stayed here before and it never lets us down.  We'll definitely be returning again later in the year

AMAZING GUESTHOUSE

After 2 months of travel in Asia, a week at The Gables was just the ticket for us seniors to unwind before our return home to Canada. The Gables served us well - Room 8 on the 3rd floor. A quiet and comfortable room with its corner windows overlooking the church and the bowling green and surrounded by the hills. Great breakfasts, both food and service. Good dinners with 10% discount beside the hearth at Sheila's Cottage. The central bus stop was a 3 minute walk away and we took great advantage of it, having pleasant rides all over the Lake District as well as over to Whitehaven on the coast. Our thanks to all the Gables staff.

Just the Stay that we needed....

My husband and I had a very delightful stay at the Gables Guesthouse. The room was spacious, the English breakfast delicious and the staff made sure we had everything we needed.
    We enjoyed walking around the village, visiting the shops and nearby park . All of this was very easy because of its location.

Lovely stay at the Gables Guest house

We stayed here on our honeymoon 50 years ago and returned when our sons bought us a voucher for our Golden Wedding Anniversary. The Gables had obviously changed a lot but we had a lovely time. The breakfasts were plentiful and delicious and all the staff were friendly and obliging. Our room was spotless and very comfortable. We hope to go back before too long.

We had a great overnight stay at the Gables in a spacious, well-equipped and spotless first floor room. The location is perfect for enjoying Ambleside itself as well as the surrounding area, and onsite parking is an added bonus. A tasty breakfast (the Cumberland sausage was particularly good) rounded off a great stay, with our only regret that we couldn’t stay longer.

Look out for Sidney, the friendly Gables dog!

Such wonderful hosts. Alex goes over and beyond what you would expect of a host. The facility was always clean and in good repair, tastefully decorated. Lovely family.
I fully recommend The Gables to anyone thinking of visiting this part of Wales.

Excellent hosts

Before we arrived we had a call from Dorothy who was running the place while the owners were away, as we were running late. She was so helpful and supportive and we were made to feel incredibly welcome. After we arrived we were greeted by Dorothy who gave us a full introduction to the place. She’s an amazing lady and gave us very helpful advice, and felt like an old friend. 
All the staff were so kind, attentive, efficient and friendly. 
We stayed for 5 nights and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was clean and comfortable, everywhere had a very homely feeling. The cooked breakfast was the best, and filled us up for the day, along with the cereals, yoghurt, prunes, grapefruit and the toast. 
What surprised me most was the ice making machine in the hall way, which we used a lot (we never expected that). 
It is ideally situated, right by the town, with ample parking, a cinema, park, crazy golf, bowling green and tennis courts. 
We’ll definitely go back.
