Lovely cosy small hotel for Bed and Breakfast, with evening meals in the restaurant.
Once again, we had a lovely short stay here.  It always feels welcoming and the bedrooms are always clean and warm on a cold day.

We stayed as part of their Tinsel promo, the food once again was tasty and staff warm and friendly.  Breakfast more that enough choice and choice of cooked options.

I would highly recommend staying here as it is in prime location for walkers but Ambleside and it’s amenities are only just down the road, easily accessible by bus too.

Short Break at The Skelwith Bridge 

Superb hotel if you're looking for a peaceful trip. Parking is excellent. The room I had was cosy and the view was stunning. Some people may gripe about not having adequate tv signal, but for me personally I do not wish to watch tv when I'm on a break at the Lakes. There is also limited mobile signal but the free WiFi in the hotel is perfect. It's a great choice for some down time and for those who love the great outdoors. The hotel is a perfect location, not far from Ambleside, and plenty of local walks surrounding the hotel. The full English breakfast served in the dining area was filling and yummy - great start to your day. Super friendly and helpful staff. Would highly recommend as a solo traveller.

Peaceful B&B in idyllic surroundings

Good points: hot chocolate in room, offered to take bag up, pub looks nice and cosy, room smelled fresh upon opening, mainly male young staff which means can help with bag.
 Bad points: VERY dangerous car park, tiny shower, customers are tired so I don't think we should have to go up to the bar every time to order something- they should come to us, there is a picture on the wall of sharp tools and it is very triggering and I don't want to look at it while eating, 6 channels which were rubbish.

I turned up honestly with low expectations just down the how cheap the rates were compared to other hotels I’ve stayed in the lakes, I was shocked, the staff were some of the best staff I have ever came across! Rob / Bobby was more than helpful the second I arrived, even getting out of bed when I locked myself out to help me and providing me with anything I needed and Barne? Brane? I didn’t catch his name properly but he was also amazing, extremely helpful throughout my stay and very very nice guy, finally the girl with the coloured hair? I think blue, didn’t catch her name but she was amazingly well mannered, room spotless, cozy, amazing view, beautiful food at breakfast, I honestly cannot fault this hotel, I’ve stayed in Ambleside 20 times and am annoyed I didn’t know this was round the corner. From now on, unless I stay in Eskdale / Ulswater, this is my new spot.

Fantastic

Last minute decision to get away for the weekend. Arrived Friday night, and straight into the restaurant owing to rubbish traffic. 

From the offset the staff were brilliant, warm, engaging and friendly.  Had the Fish and Chips, one of my bugbares is mush peas in a ramakin. The fish was massive, the chips cooked to perfection and a large portion of peas. 

Saturday morning, full English breakfast followed by a 6 mile walk over the hills, I was still not hungry after a 5 hour walk.

Dinner at 7pm picture's attached, again the food was a taste sensation.

Sad to be leaving tomorrow, can't thank the staff enough for being brilliant with us and also our Black Labrador.

Massive big up to the staff and the Hotel,.may seem expensive for a night, but well worth a visit for the friendly welcome and beautiful scenery.

Sat in the library chilling out now.

Last Minute Weekend

We stayed in a 'superior' room which was large, with plenty of storage space and a very efficient electric radiator which was more than enough to heat the room. The bathroom was equally as spacious, including a very large bath. Be careful, though, it was quite difficult to get out of! Even though it is a dog-friendly hotel and many dogs were staying, it was perfectly quiet, with no noise from either the canines or their owners.
The food in the Talbot Bar was good, but the menu was a bit restricted for vegetarians and the choice of beers was limited to a guest ale, even though the bar sells itself on its range of Jennings ales.
Car parking space was limited at times but, overall, this didn't spoil a very enjoyable stay. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Large room, large bath

We enjoyed our honeymoon at this hotel in Oct 1972, so a return to celebrate our Gold Wedding last October seemed appropriate, and thus it was booked in advance. Unfortunately my wife had an adverse reaction to the covid booster jab, and after waiting for some improvement, had to cancel at the last minute. We were not able to postpone the booking to a later date. Consequently we lost our deposit, and were charged for our non-stay first night, totalling £230. We prefer to remember the hotel as it was in 1972, rather than what it has now become to be.

Frustrating

Returned again for a reunion with friends, we stayed 2 nights on the Turkey and Tinsel special offer, everything was just perfect, the hotel is very clean and the food was excellent, the staff are very friendly and welcoming, lovely old fashioned hotel with lots of charm, i really can't recommend highly enough it's 1st class.

Brilliant Hotel

Very comfortable hotel. Excellent location especially if you like  walking to enjoy the lakes and fells. Langdale is on the dootstep. Grasmere and Rydal make a fabulous walk. Forget the car. We walked from the front door.  Food here is 5* no nonsense, exceptional. Venison haunch. Lamb shank. Vegan jalfriezi, haloumi ...Daily specials too: Seared duck breast, soups are innovative.  Wine prices are realistic. Cosy pub too. Just what you need after a day out walking Residents' lounges to relax in after dinner over coffee. The residents bar is lined with historic books.. full of character. We were lucky enough to eat there, a private dining experience. Breakfast portions are sensible, nothing to slow  you down. Staff are all friendly and very helpful. It rained a lot when we visited. Torrential. Fortunately there is a recently refurbished drying room. We booked 5 nights DBB. Good value. Worth visiting the web site for special deals.

Fab food and great walking.. pack waterproofs

This is the second time we have stayed here & we wouldn’t think of staying anywhere else. The staff are all so attentive, friendly & welcoming. The room was comfortable with everything you would need. Enjoyable atmosphere in the bar & a good menu to choose from. Dog friendly, ample parking & good WiFi. Excellent location, it’s a gem in the Lake District.
