Haus Shangri-La

Haus Shangri-La is a modern chalet very close to the edge of the piste in Saas Fee, in good snow conditions it is definately ski in ski out. On arrival in Saas fee we left our car at the underground parking (Saas Fee is car free) and caught an electric taxi to the aprtment. Pricy at CHF35! Interesting that it was only CHF25 on the way back.... We stayed in a 1st Floor Apartment - Fletschhorn. I was a little unclear about what happened once we arrived, but we found the key in the door and a post it note on the door with our name so we worked it out! The owner had left an envelope on the table with a sheet of information and our vouchers for the lift passes we had pre-booked. The apartment is very clean and modern. Two bedrooms with double beds, one with en-suite and a family bathroom. Underfloor heating is a nice touch too. The lounge area has a TV and DVD player. WiFi password was given to us on arrival in the information sheet. My only critisisms would be firstly that the sofas are VERY uncomfortable! Secondly the kitchen is lacking a few essentials for a week of self catering. Some weighing scales, a stick blender, cake tin and a few basic essentials would be a huge bonus. Having to go out and buy condiments, foil, olive oil etc etc was a nuisance. Other aprtments we have stayed in have always had the basics. Thirdly Fletschhorn is directly above the boot room so you do get a lot of clattering. Groceries in Switzerland are hugely more exepnsive than France or UK. Given the ease of parking and transportation to the apartment I would highly recommend doing a shop in France on the way! There is a small frezzer compartment in the fridge. For example one chicken breast in Saas Fee is CHF8! I wish that I had taken a cool bag and bought meat in France. Orange Juice is CHF6 rather than 1 Euro in France. The restaurants are all very expensive so self catering is ideal. I would recommend Haus Shangri-La, the location is superb and the apartment was very well suited to our needs. There is a boot rooms with heated boot rack and a small jacuzzi room. There is also a lift which was helpful when we were moving the massive amount of luggage!
