Kilafors Herrgård is not just like any mansion one can visit. As soon as we got in the reception, we could see the view of the big green lawn and the lake. Service was friendly, there is a big kitchen for guests who want to prepare their own food, lots of tables and chairs both indoor and outdoor (we were there summertime), large lawn that leads to the lake, beach and sauna, the famous secret door to the billiard room and what used to be a huge bar (the original owner must have loved to drink and entertain). Breakfast is fine (not Grand Hotel buffet but we did not pay Grand Hotel price level, too, so that's pretty fair), the owner was always checking and refilling whatever is needed. Breakfast area big enough that social distancing is possible during the Covid-19. The room was clean, modern toilet and shower, with fresh towels and beddings, and the BED was so comfortable that I slept like a log.  All these and more for very affordable price. Tips: try to get a room with view of the lake, in the main building, with balcony. To sit in the balcony or in the terrace and watch the lake is breathtaking.

Stayed with a group of iceskaters during February. Good buffet breakfast, comfortable room with great shower, self cooking for dinner, nice atmosphere, excellent location at the lake with top views, drying room for wet clothes, skating shoes (very handy)

Pleasant and comfortable

We (me, my husband and our 8 year old child) spent four nights here during the Christmas holidays 2017. The main building is currently being renovated and we stayed in one of the wings. Though the rooms in the wing also may need refurbishing (it's a bit dated), the staff members made our stay absolutely wonderful. They were so friendly, extremely service minded and super-willing to help in any way they could. They made us feel very welcome and appriciated as guests.

Wonderful staff

This was my first trip north of Stockolm and Uppsala in Sweden, and it was quite a discovery. Wonderful forests and lakes, plenty of space, absolutely no crowds, a relaxed atmosphere. I even liked the short nights (2 hours in July) since the sunset essentially lasts for a very long time wit a beautiful light. In this region, the Kilaforst Herrard is a very special place. It is an large mansion with several buildings and old furniture, run by a wonderful couple. The property is on a lake where one can swim (there is also a sauna on the beach) and it is surrounded by forests. The owners are truly kind with their customers. We organized there a business meeting and got all the necessary gear plus total quiet. And, by the way, the restaurant is high-level, with innovative Swedish cuisine.
