Absolutely our favourite of the twelve places we stayed in Sri Lanka. Great views from the rooms. Lovely smiling helpful staff. Amazing food at good prices. A few (steep) steps to one of the best beaches . Sun beds available on the beach. 
Wonderful swimming pool . Just a thoroughly good place and very good value for money.

FABULOUS!!! Position Position Position!!!

What an amazing place to stay! We looked at other accommodation along Talalla and we were so happy that we chose Talalla Freedom Resort. The views are just stunning. We were about 100 metres from the beach, and because of a few steps (not nearly as many as some reviews make out) the cafe and restaurant overlooks the beach. It's peaceful and relaxing. The accommodation is clean and comfortable and the owners are always around to do anything you need. The niece Nayala, speaks excellent English and she's just so sweet and helpful. We were greeted with a welcome fruit juice and the friendly hospitality continued throughout our 4 night stay. 
The breakfast is delicious and you have a choice between Sri Lankan or Western. The restaurant offers a small choice of menu, but it's prepared quickly, it's delicious, plentiful, excellent value for money and it's presented beautifully. 
I would say that we definitely had the best accommodation in Talalla beach. We paid so much less than the larger, more modern resort next to it, we were closer to the beach, we had fabulous accommodation, amazing food and hospitality, the best views and the friendly touch of a family run business who have lived in Talalla all their lives.
Highly, highly recommended. 

A piece of paradise 

Very friendly staff (family). In my opinion the best location in Tallala beach. Peaceful, quiet and unspoiled beach, many locals come to the beach (families, fishermen). The location of the bungalow is on the hill so the view is perfect. Tasteful breakfast and dinner.

Amazing stay. The beach is gorgeous and quiet, there's only a few hotels along (like 2 or 3). The food at freedom resort is DELICIOUS (vegetarian curry). The rooms are simple, in the middle of the trees. You can see monkeys outside in the morning. Such a peaceful and relaxing stay.

Beautiful quiet beach, go there

Stayed for two weeks in September 2023. For starters, the host family at Talalla Freedom are wonderful. Helpful, friendly, adjusted to my food allergies, went over and beyond. Rs 250 for a pot of fresh tea. The pool is lovely and well kept, the view and access to Talalla beach is phenomenal (as long as you don't have any mobility issues. Beds are Sri Lanka firm but comfy. You can sit in a nice recliner with your tea and watch the monkeys walk by. The birds in the area are beautiful.  Be aware that off-season the beach is not safe to swim and it isn't a surf beach. Air conditioning was a great asset and the wet room is large enough that when you shower you don't get the toilet and everything wet. On the flip side, the restaurant was taken out by a tree the day before I arrived so the menu was a bit limited (but food delicious and breakfast a real treat). The upkeep has been minimal and things are broken and many holes in the mosquito nets. Access to the resort is difficult and the laneway to the area gets terrible towards the resort and then turns to mud. Difficult for the tuktuks to maneuver so they charge you extra. The location gets a 9, the family a 10, the upkeep a 6. Don't touch the dog, it is not friendly.

There were a lot of great things about this place but after the reviews we read on the amazing service we were left disappointed - it seemed that the lady mentioned was not there and the young guys that ran the place were not on top of it at all.
The location at the west end of the beach up high is great and views from treetop restaurant just stunning. Tallala could be SL's best beach it's so pretty and we loved the calm warm water for swimming.
Our room was fairly clean and had a mozzie net but the bed was rock hard which made sleeping uncomfortable. We knew there was no AC but the free standing fan tended to cut in and out. We left our bungalow's windows open at night for breeze which meant temp was fine. The bathroom is basic like most in this price range, but the drains did make a smell now and again. The resort comes with a pool that looked clean and good for kids and sun loungers with umbrella's on the beach - unfortunately these can be used by anyone and staff won't chuck someone else off for their guests to have one. 
We enjoyed one meal at the restaurant of seafood which was quite good if a little pricey. We almost didn't stay as it took nearly 30 minutes for someone to actually take our order. The first day breakfast was good - the usual fruit plus toast and tea. The second day we showed up at 10.20 (having been told breakfast was until 10.30) and no one came to take our order. We went to find them at 10.35 in the kitchen and were told we were too late - so just got juice and an egg (not sure why bread is so hard to provide 5 minutes late) - but this was the icing on the cake for a few service issues. They were friendly overall but just didn't seem to be that concerned about anyone. They had said we could check out t 12pm on our last day but at 11.20 housekeeping were on the doorstep looking agitated. Prices for accommodation in this area are higher than other areas (90$ aud per night) but you don't get much for it.  Wifi works on restaurant only. Having said that, Talalla has very little choice being so secluded, alot which looked worse, so if pushed we would go there again.
