Made a last minute reservation at Savinrose and stayed here last night.  It is under new management and the owner is updating the rooms, repainting and fixing broken fixtures. Stayed in an a/c room and it was very comfortable; bathroom clean with lots of hot water.  The owner showed me around the rooms; not all have been updated yet, but work is in progress.  Staff are very friendly & accommodating.  Good food; laundry service available.  They booked a safari for me this morning to Yala and prepared a take away breakfast.  This is a great place to stay at a very affordable price.

Cheap & cheerful

After reading reviews on trip advisor I thought this would be a nice place to stay in during my visit to Yala national park. It was a huge disappointment. First of all, it's not close to the main part of the city where the rest of the accommodation places are, the house itself (which I'm sure was once great) is dirty and seems like it hasn't been cleaned for a while. with dust, spider webs and a damp smell from the walls. Door handles and shower heads were broken and generally it seems like the owner just doesn't care any more. 

Also, as a Solo traveller I thought from the reviews I will meet other people there as this was peak season, but I was the only one (not the owners fault, just making a point) 

I do have to say, the owner is very nice and kind, he arranged for me a Safari trip within a few minutes and "upgraded" me to a room with hot water shower for free and breakfast was ok too. 

Very disappointed 

We spent one night in this hotel in conjunction with the visit to the National Park, which we started at 8am. The hotel is ok, the rooms are very simple, comfortable bed with AC. The breakfast is (as is probably the case in almost all hotels in Sri Lanka) made up of fruit, toast and jam. The bathroom is rather congested and not very clean. The restaurant is not very nice. There is generally not much to offer in the area, so you should go straight ahead.

All right, but not anymore.

The hotel is fine for one night if you combine the stay with a visit to Yala National Park. The hotel is very simple, comfortable beds, but overall OK but not anymore. The restaurant is not really inviting. If you go out of the hotel to the right, after 10 minutes on foot there is a beautiful lake with various birds, buffaloes swimming and crocodiles. It is definitely worth a visit! Otherwise you can't go much further in the place, so after the safari you can go straight ahead!

Hotel okay for safari for one night

Honestly as a structure it's a little old and outdated. The room is a small one. The bathroom is all but new, but clean. Very quiet environment with a very kind and caring owner. We slept in peace and breakfast was certainly plentiful. As I said before we're not talking about the GrandHotel, but the kindness and fairness made this hotel a pleasant time. Convenient for a safari departure about 40/50 minutes from the park.

Got the place last minute via booking.com (on cheapest price). Arrived late at night to take safari next day in Yala, but he still got up early (at 5am) to provide us lunch and breakfast. Rooms clean and tidy.

Nice and friendly

The property is located in front of Tissamaharama Lake, the staff is friendly, the rooms are average, a budget accommodation that hasn't convinced us completely.

He didn't convince us.

we stayed at this guesthouse for a day and we can definitely recommend it to everyone. the location is very quiet,just 200m from the lake and a few metres from shops,we had a lovely dinner and we could also book the safari trip to yala directly from the guest house.there is a big variety of rooms,smaller ones,bigger ones,ones with a/c or non a/c.we stayed at the cheapest one (1000rupees per room)and we were very happy with everything.

beautiful atmosphere,lovely people

I stayed here in January 2014 and enjoyed the friendly vibe there are plenty of other young travelers so staying solo was not in the least bit lonely plenty of people to chat to and cold beer.

The food was great I had rice and curry as well as a very delicious chicken mince spaghetti bolognaise very filling.

Saman is the friendly manager at the moment working with his brother Lucky who is the owner & happened to be there.  

The wifi worked well and Saman arranged a Shared jeep for me to Yala which really made the cost worthwhile.

Full marks I would happily recommend this guest house to any travelers visiting Tissa or Yala

Clean friendly budget accommodation

I spent two nights as a solo traveler in this small hotel, probably more suitable for backpacking travellers. I had everything you need: a very comfortable bed in a small room with shower and air conditioning.
