We went for 2 days in Beatrice house. This place was full of history and the owners Kody and Leena were so nice with us. The cooking course was really good and we learnt so much. It was really good time spent in Beatrice house and we were so happy to exchange with Kody and Leena Who knows so much about the city and around 😀👍

Galle stay

The place is amazing with surrounding artifacts. Kind-hearted & well-educated owner, Mr. Kodithuwakku treats you as his family member. Could listen to great historical stories on Galle fort too. 

The food he provides by him already makes you surprised.  You could live there with peace of mind. Love to be there again!

Kind Hearted owner with great place to stay

A trip to see the fish market followed by the vegetable and fruit market in Galle. Mrs Kodi prepared the veg, fish and the banana flower ( a completely new to us ingredient we had chosen as we had not seen or tried before). She made delicious curries, provided a recipe sheet and talked us through the preparations. We then enjoyed the curries with their homegrown red rice for lunch. She had made them not too spicy, especially for us, all delicious. Thank you for your hospitality in your beautiful home. We also enjoyed chatting and learning more about your lives and Sri Lanka.

What a fantastic foodie experience!

This is a 300 year old house located inside the Galle Fort Area hardly 50 metres from The Rampart. The house is a marvel in itself - comfortable rooms, clean bathrooms. The vastly experienced Mr Kodi is a wonderful host. He told us about Unawatuna, showed us around the beach area and gave some very handy tips. The breakfast was amazing - the egg hopper and pancakes deserve a special mention !! Overall highly recommended! 

Hospitality at its best ! 

Sri Lanka is stunning but the soul and heart is to be found in Kody and Meena. What warm and open hearts this wonderful couple have. Nothing was too much trouble and the advice and tips freely given made us feel cared for and empowered. 
The house it's self is stunning, over 300 years old and a beautiful example of Dutch architecture so if you are looking for modern styling and clinically scrubbed then this is not for you. If however you are looking for charm, nooks and crannies, incredible collection of memorabilia and antiques and original features then you won't be disappointed.
Breakfast was a feast of authentic Sri Lanka cuisine. Meena is an amazing cook and surprised us every day at the variety and quality of the food. We ate so much that most days we skipped lunch :)
We loved our stay and its location to so many sites of interest ( via tut tut or taxi ) so much that we re arranged our itinerary and stayed at Beatrice House 3 different times during our month long stay in Sri Lanka.

Wow what a find.

Very large former Dutch Burger residence full of interesting antiques including an old plate collection. Mr. Cody and his wife are gracious hosts who enjoy sharing the local cuisine for breakfast and give valuable tourist information. Located on the Rampart Road near the water front fort wall. Many bedrooms and beds with mosquito netting. Most use the downstairs bedroom, but there’s many rooms and beds upstairs. The building is old, so keep in mind that so is the furniture. Free ride back to bus station for us.

Home stay like a museum

Through our travel agent (Trailfinders) we booked a morning's Sri Lankan cooking.
Kodi collected us from our hotel in Galle after breakfast and we went, first to the fish market by the old harbour and then the fruit & vegetable market in the new town, to buy the ingredients.  Then it was back to Galle Fort & Beatrice House, were we spent several lovely hours talking with Kodi & his lovely wife, while she worked through the preparation of 6 curries, 1 fish & 5 vegetable, which we then ate together for lunch.  What an experience and what a lovely couple; a big, big thank you.

Wonderful food experience

At this house you may not find a trousers press like a 5 star hotel but if you go there I'm sure you'll have a 5 star stay. The house is a beautiful old dutch building filled with curiosities. The owner Kodi did everything he could to help us enjoy our stay. The location could not have been better in the heart of Galle fort.

Eclectic and historic old dutch house

The Beatrice House is a really classical guest house right in the center of Galle.  The location is great, a 2 minute walk from most of the shops and restaurants and the view for sunset is less than a minute away.

Rooms are pretty basic but comfortable.  The most notable thing about this place are the hosts.  They are the nicest, most generous and friendly people I met on my whole trip.  When I stayed, the guest house wasnt full, so they upgraded me to a larger more comfortable room.  Breakfast was delicious and the hosts kept bringing more and more food; fresh fruits, roti, toast, eggs, coffee and more.  Anytime I walked in after walking around Galle, I was offered tea and some snacks or sweets.  When the host family was having dinner one evening and I walked in, they immediately asked me to join them and offered to share their dinner with me.  I even saw the owner drive some other guests to their next destination when they were unable to get a taxi.

If you are looking for a warm homey atmosphere, this is the place for you.

Most friendly and generous hosts

We had a Sri Lankan Cookery Class yesterday at Beatrice House. Kodi took us to the market first to buy our fish and vegetables. We were made most welcome by both Kodi and his wife when we arrived at their amazing home. The class was so relaxed and so much fun. We made lots of tasty dishes from what seemed like a few vegetables. We are Irish and have learned a new way to cook potatoes. Kodi had a calendar from Ireland so we were able to show him places close to us. Loved every minute of this experience and would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Galle. Thank you both for a very memorable day.
