I planned to stay at this hotel in october, and then the Hurricane Maria went by Puerto Rico and the Hotel administration took my money but never returned it.

Booked and payed for this hotel before the Hurricane and never received refund

This is one of the best examples of fancy dining in San Juan. Menu based on Spanish cuisine with local and international influences. Service is excellent. Food and  wine prices are high. Excellent for a celebration or a fancy date. Caution: reservations are needed and the opening hours change.

A very fancy gourmet restaurant

I planned to go to San Juan in early February 2018 and thus booked Cervantes hotel on 17th March 2017 for 2 days through Booking.com. 
Later on May 24, 2017, I talked to the  Booking.com and the Hotel management and extended our stay for one more day.100% payment was done on March and then on May 2017 for the additional day. I became relaxed that our accommodation was booked.
Suddenly on Ist week on January 2018, I got a call from Booking.com that my booking has been cancelled. I immediately found that the booking was cancelled without assigning any reasons. When I asked about the reasons  to booking.com  for this late cancellation, the customer service representative said that this was due to Hurricane Maria. When I asked about the refund, they said that it will be refunded by the hotel management within next seven days as they didn’t hold any money and was taken directly by hotel management.
Very surprisingly, I haven’t got any money back from the Hotel, not only money ,but also not a single line of  correspondences showing apologies due to  very late cancellation ,in spite of my  repeated calls, which nobody responded and 4 emails in next 14 days.
At last, Booking.com was kind enough to return my money ($585) of their own on  around 20th January, after giving bank statements as documentary evidences  and said that they would recover.
I was never clear of the following:
1.Why  this late cancellation in January 2018, when the Hurricane Maria came in September 2018. I booked another Hotel and stayed there in February 2018 and found everything normal in San Juan. 
2. Why they have not bothered to inform me at all?
3. Why the money was not refunded by them in spite of all my repeated calls and emails?
I am travelling around the world for many years and never had such bad experience. I was lucky to get my money back, thanks to Booking.com again and lucky enough to get another good hotel for that period, but these "Why" question haunts me.

WILL NEVER BOOK THIS HOTEL

Very nice hotel close to the nightlife in Old San Juan. The staff was very nice and helpful. Plenty of restaurants and bars in the neighborhood. Within walking distance of El Morro. And if you don't have too much luggage you can walk to the cruise port.

My hubby and I have stayed at this hotel a few times and we're due to stay in Nov 17 when the hurricanes hit the islands and San Juan we had flights and hotels booked when the flights and hotels started to cancel it was quite clear we would not be able to make the trip from Australia.
So therefore started calling and cancelling flights and hotels that had not already cancelled even though we had the booking in this hotel we have been unable to cancel  Our booking as the hotel phone lines were down and Internet service was not available at that time ...but since then they have been accepting booking but will still not asker our emails for a refund yes we have gone through our insurance but not happy as they have since had ample time to contact us regarding our booking but have not bothered ... have taken our money but not returned it... not good service and will not return
