The hotel is excellent.Rooms were spacious, we had a superior Ocean View Room, and were very clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful.Hotel is on a steep slope and overlooks the Ocean. Handy for the Lido (5 mins walk) but outdoor pool was clean and quite a big pool, with plenty of sunbeds on several levels for when the warmer weather arrives. We visited in January when it was still warm but pool not so important. It also has a nice indoor pool and a larger than usual gym for a hotel.The promenade at Funchal is a healthy walk away, between 40 mins to an hour depending on whether you take a direct route or not and how fit you are to cope with the many slopes in and around Madeira. However, there is a bus stop and a taxi rank within 3-4 mins walk. Taxis cost about 7 euros to Funchal.Hotel has a good breakfast buffet with plenty of options. Only ate in the hotel restaurant one night which was excellent and reasonably priced. The hotel were offering deals for those who wanted to stay on site for evening meals. However, there are many options for eating or a drink within a 10-15 minute walk. Plus many more the further towards Funchal centre you want to go.
