This guesthouse is nicely located to visit the Douro Valley. The ride through Folgosa is pretty cool and steep, but that is rewarded with an amazing view when the sun goes down (and every other moment for that matters). Parking on the parameter is possible, but not for the fainted of heart. For them, the street is a better option.

The host was not present when we arrived, but everything was nicely arranged. There are only three rooms with balcony (and not really a common room), so it's truly a guest house. 

The room was very clean but quite basic. The shower ok, the wifi moderate, the bed very good. 

Breakfast was really nice, freshly made, quite some Portuguese options, a self-made drink from the owner, ... 

We would definitely come back when visiting the Douro Valley. One star less as it lacked just a tiny bit of charm for what we payed (compared to other places we resided).

What a view!

We usually avoid Guesthouses when travelling - we now realise we may have made a mistake. This was a quite wonderful excursion from our comfort zone. Not the easiest place to find but well worth it when you do. Where to start. The really charmng host, the stunning views, the quiet, well-apportioned room, the views, the terrace, the amazingly expansive breakfast. There is a small communal area with a well-stocked fridge for guest use. We were given a welcoming glass of port and a brief history - the house is named after the host's grandfather to whom it is dedicated. All the land and vines in sight seem to belong to one member of the family or another. And the views!! A pleasant overview of the cruise boats, the old tourist boats up from Porto, the smaller craft, the small, infrequent railway on the opposite bank, the surrounding villages. A good night's sleep - despite the silence - followed by an incredible breakfast. Cold meat, eggs, cheese, fresh bread, natas and fruit, yoghurts, fruit juice, coffee, hot water and a selection of teabags - almost endless. There was a bell attached to a wooden upright to call for attention - if required. Served at an antique wooden table on the side terrace under a natural canopy. We shared with two Dutch gentlemen who were journeying on motorbikes through Portugal. My wife was very concerned that we weren't paying enough and that the price couldn't possible include the breakfast as prepayment is requested. Our host assured us that all was well. We dragged ourselves away after another intake of view.
There are some negatives. Parking could prove irksome but there is always the peaceful road outside. The lighting in the bathroom could be brighter. And to pay for the stupendous views it's a long walk down (and probably even worse back) the hill to the nearest bar/restaurants - Cafe La Bamba to name one, the other is more gastronomique. Best to take the car.
We have found somewhere to which it would be a joy to return - once we learn to sit and relax and enjoy the views without falling asleep. Will have to try harder.

Idyllic

We stayed there on 5/13/18, and have wonderful memories of our visit. The house is located fairly high on a hill overlooking the Douro and the view from the balcony is breathtaking. We were quite tired when we arrived and did not feel like going out to look for a restaurant.  Tomas volunteered to go  shopping for us and he brought back tasty local foods that we enjoyed on the balcony. The next morning we ate  a copious breakfast while watching the tour boats going upriver. Call Tomas if you have trouble finding his house and he will guide you in. We wish we could have stayed another day.
