We loved the Kunstnerhuset!  Bente is so warm and welcoming, and she gave me alot of information before our trip, always answering my emails quickly!  We started our bicycle trip in Svolvaer, and the location of Kunstnerhuset is perfect!  Just a short walk from the town center over the bridge.  The entire house is spotless and comfortable.  Our room had a beautiful view, but, of course, it is beautiful wherever you look in Lofoten!  It was so nice to have the kitchen to use, although we walked down the hill to Borsen Spiseri for breakfast as we didn't want to carry alot of food on our bicycles from place to place.  (a very quaint and good restaurant, by the way)  Thank you Bente for an excellent stay!

The Kunstnerhuset (Artist's House) was a wonderful place to place while traveling through Svolvaer.  We spent one night in the Artist's House and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.  This is not a typical hotel - many of the guests are artists - there for a long period of time.  I think of it like a bed & breakfast, without the breakfast.  You are staying in a house with a shared kitchen, living room, and dining room.  You must go shopping and prepare food on your own, or go to a restaurant in Svolvaer.  You'll be about a 10 minute walk from the center of town and stores.
We stayed in March, and there was only 1 other person staying there and he was there for several weeks.  Bente (the manager) was super friendly and helpful when we asked her questions - She even let us use her laundry facilities at no cost.
There was another couple that arrived on the day that we left.  
The views of this hotel cannot be beat.  The landscape of Svolvaer is amazing.  The price of the Kunstnerhuset is much more reasonable than a typical hotel in Svolvaer.  I would most definitely stay here again if I found myself in Svolvaer!

Stayed at Kunstnershuset during a painting course. And the place is perfect. Beautiful surroundings give you more than enough of inspiration. Besides bedrooms and a fully equipped kitchen there is a studio upstairs with inspiring views over Svolvaer and the sea.

This little guesthouse is tucked away over the big bridge in Svolvaer, about 15 minutes walk from the waterfront in a quiet neighborhood at the top of a steep hill. Parking is at the bottom of the hill but they allow you to drive your car up to the door to unload temporarily. There is a spotless kitchen and large community room with a large and interesting library, stereo and musical instruments. The rooms are very small and basic and if others are getting up early you will probably awaken with them, but you aren't really in Lofoten to sleep in, are you? This is a good value place for budget travelers and for those who don't need to stay right in the expensive action of downtown Svolvaer.

Inspiring place to stay

Nice budget option

Stayed there on driving holiday trough North Norway. Difficult to find place was the first impression. Very friendly welcome by the host the second. Room basic, shared bathroom (with a few other rooms). Also access to shared kitchen and lounge. Primarily for artists to stay for some time. Some rooms rented out to tourists. So we met some interesting people. Nice place to stay and having a kitchen to uses is big plus in Norway looking at restaurant food prices. Shared bathroom and the price (of £100) for what is essentially a posh student home cost it 2 stars. The 3 starts awarded mainly on atmosphere and the nice host. Would go again though if in the neighbourhood. 
Hotel is in walking distance to town centre (about 10 to 15 min)
