It seems so cozy and nice, but this is the bates motel. The owner will greet you and wish you welcome but that's where the fun stops.
I'll get back to that later. 
It doesn't serve delicious local food. It once did, but that was 15 chefs ago. The cabins are held together by the paint and they are not cleaned regularly. The whole place is smelly, I doubt that even the bed sheets is washed between every visitor- they are probably hanged out in the cold breeze for a few visits before cleaning/changing. The road is located 15 meters from the cabins and this road isn't just a back road; it's a road mostly used by garbage trucks (there's a large recycling centre located 2 kilometers north of this hole, just check out Google maps) and road trains going to Myre or Bø loaded with fish. Back and forth every single hour of the day and night.
You can only wonder what the owner spend the income on because the place definitely have potential but it's not used. A sound wall by the road would have been a good start. Refurbishing the cabins aint a bad idea either. In my cabin some sockets was out of order and the TV didn't work. When I called the owner she told me it would be fixed on Monday. Period. This happened on a Saturday....when I asked it to be fixed faster she hung up and blocked my calls. She was nowhere to be seen or heard from since.
On top of this the main building (reception) remained closed all weekend even though it was supposed to be open every day 24/7.

This is what I paid 550€ for:

- No food served
- No TV
- No cleaning at all
- Worst customer service ever
- Sleepless nights (until I started counting road trains)

Don't go here unless you want to rent a place to stay from Bernhard Blacks sister

Chasing with Aurora Addicts

We stayed in this charming water side accommodation over the New Year . The cabins were simple but cosy and comfy with great charm and a lovely outlook . Marit,  the owner was warm and friendly and introduced my family to traditional Norwegian cooking including fish and salted lamb dishes . The highlight was New Years Eve feast of beautifully cooked crisp pork and also a glass of fizz and fireworks on the restaurant balcony despite the blizzard outside . Great introduction to Norway . 

Cosy and Friendly Norwegian New Year 

My friend and I stayed for 4 nights in Vesterålen Sjøhus. The cabin is clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. We really enjoyed the food. For breakfast, we were served with delectable spread of breads, cheeses, cold cuts, and salmon, among others. For dinner, Marit prepared sumptuous Norwegian dishes which gave us a sampling of the country’s cuisine. We particularly appreciated that she thought of giving us a “breakfast to go” the night before as we had to leave early in the morning to catch our flight back to Oslo. We highly recommend Vesterålen Sjøhus when you are in Sortland.

Very nice location. amazing view from the cabin's window.
The owner, Marit, she is friendly and welcoming.
Cabins: simply furnished but comfortable enough.
Good for tourists.

I can not rate my stay at Vesterålen Sjøhus highly enough. Marit, the friendly and welcoming host, is an excellent cook and I loved the homely feel of the cabins and restaurant. My cabin was simply furnished, warm, with a comfortable bed and the best shower I've ever had (with underfloor heating to top it off!). The view out of the back window of my cabin, looking north over the water, was simply breathtaking (see attached photo). Thank you Marit for a wonderful stay!
