We had a wonderful 3 nights here! This place felt to us a bit like a Norwegian version of an American national parks lodge. The main building was full of interesting things to see, from artwork to furniture to cozy little nooks to relax in. The breakfast was truly an amazing spread - we were full until dinner everyday! - and the dining room was a beautiful place to begin the day. We booked a basic room and it was immaculately clean, simply furnished and very comfortable. We liked the fact that it had a balcony and a lovely view of the surrounding mountains. We had some questions about hiking logistics and weather and the owner and staff were extremely helpful to us - and always very friendly and welcoming. This is a great place to base if you are visiting Jutenheimen national park. 

Historic, beautiful and friendly

I was on a tour that uses this hotel.  It is in a beautiful location of natural beauty. The common areas are very colorful, rustic, and inviting. If I could have slept in there, it would have been great.  I had a single room that was very small which is fine. Unfortunately, the room was beyond battered, neglected, shabby,  in dire need of fillers & paint. The bathroom was really bad, the shower was so nasty, I didn't. The bed was really small & uncomfortable, & there were no blackouts on either window ( or any other "amenity") No doubt, the included breakfast, family style  dinner, and do-it-yourself picnic lunch is why the tour company uses this place. Cost affective. If I were planning a trip to this area, I would not stay at this hotel, although I might stop & have a drink in the common area & walk around.

Rustic does not mean battered & neglected

A quaint and delightful place to stay and enjoy the awesome beauty of Norway. We love the uniqueness of the buildings and its tranquil setting. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I think in general Norwegians are friendly and and go out of their way to be helpful.

A Norwegian Road Trip 

I spent one night here, though wish I could have spent more.  It's located in a very scenic mountainous valley near Lom, with a whitewater river raging next to it.  If you've been to the US Natl Parks, it looks like one of the lodges.  It's pretty rustic and very, very charming.  Chock full of historical items and knick knacks.  You can tell they've added buildings and wings over the years, so the layout is very chaotic.  Booking and checkin were smooth.  The room itself was very basic and small ... definitely not luxurious but given the lowish price I was fine with that.  I opted for the dinner, which was "good".  The dining room is large and has nice views of the mountains and river.  Breakfast was good, all you can eat buffet.  Wifi was ok.  The drive there was very scenic.

Like a US National Park Lodge

Elvesester Hotel is a must go to place. Even just drop in and look over the incredible public rooms which are incredible. Hotel is about 20km up the road from Lom, just before the road heads up to the high mountain pass. Recommend the half board option. Dinner and breakfast both excellent. We stayed in the standard room which is basic and rustic.  Clean and tidy. Staff are very friendly in keeping with this being a family run hotel. 

A brilliant and iconic place in Norway 

A stop in  Elveseter hotell for one night, a place that for a while I wanted to stay over. Its an old farm converted into a hotel that still maintains its rural lodge charm. A place to disconnect from the routine and embrace the calmness and beauty of of thus Norwegian gem,

The three dish dinner was very good and relaxing in the many cosy social areas in the main building/ lobby a great way to end the evening. Try the local beer from Lom. 

This place is magical for those who seek Norwegian rustic charm. The staff were great people that offer great service too!

Rustic charm!

Such a lovely gem in the mountains of Jotunheimen National Park. Once inside, we were blown away by the quality of the craftsmanship with all the wood carvings realized by the 6 successive generations of the same family owning and running this hotel that used to be a farm. Even more blown away: looking at 3 real paintings by one of Norway’s most celebrated classic painter: Tideman. Enjoying a drink by the fireplace in one of the many cozy living rooms admiring such art after a fantastic day hiking in the mountains was a real treat!

More than a hotel, a super cozy museum with beautiful craftsmanship. Great management & staff - very kind.

We had stayed at Elveseter 35 years ago and were really looking forward to staying there again on our last leg of a long journey. The the architecture is truly beautiful and unique, as is the interior with antique objects and wonderful art. However, we were very disappointed. First of all we had booked a 'superior' room and the room we got was not really what one might describe as superior, it was very uncomfortable since one side of the double bed did not have a reading lamp, nor a bedside table of any sort. Not that it mattered much, but we were amused to see that while the description said the floor would be a wooden floor, it was a shabby lino! The breakfast  of course had to have restrictions due to covid 19, but we had stayed at 6 different hotels the previous 2 weeks, which also had restrctions, and certainly Elveseter did not stand out compared to any of those 6. There was very little variety, especially for a person who cannot eat meat, and the service was slow. The coffee turned out to be 'brown water' - we did tell one of the servers about this and she kindly got us a small pot of real coffee from another floor. The three-course dinner in the evening was good (apart for the fact that - as is all too usual in Norway- the soup was too salty) and since I cannot eat red meat, they substituted salmon for the main course. Also the staff was very nice indeed.

A hotel with beautiful buildings, but...

A hotel, yes. But first and foremost. A dream state place. This place speaks to your soul. The art, the architecture, the surroundings, and the historical monument  that welcomes you in the middle of the garden. It's a must see. 
 
The rooms are simple, cozy and warm with two plastic chairs No TV. On the side we stayed the river was loud. 
In the toilet: two plastic cups, the cheapest toilet paper ever and plain liquid soap that is not very attentive to your skin, quality wise.  As a guest i didn't feel taken care of in this regard and I certainly did not have the urge to stay one more night in this room at the price we payed.

One more remark. The Gallery outside on the other side of the park ,was closed and looked abandoned/falling apart. I hope it will be taken care of really soon!
Apart from these remarks. Don't miss this experience and buy the book "Mi stund i fjellheimen" av Ålmund Elvesæter.

Sogndal - Lom. 2,5 amazing and beautiful autumn hours driving time.

We were traveling as a group and it appeared that there was at least 1 or 2 other groups staying at this location as well. 
The property is eclectic with beautiful paintings mixed in with local treasures and an obelisk. 
The rooms are spacious and comfortable with comfy beds and a very quiet night for sleep. 
The dining room is efficient and serves high quality meals, which is a feat, based on the quantities served. 
Service is prompt and super friendly. 
Serene location.
