This backpackers/hostel is absolutely adorable and I can’t recommend it highly enough: To start, all of the people that passed through here in our time were simply lovely- a great mix of couples, solo travellers and families from around the world. It was quiet despite all the people being around and also very friendly. The kitchen is fabulous and big and inviting as are the common areas and lounges. There is a hot tub and a sauna- I’ll just say that again- a HOT TUB and a SAUNA to come home to every night after hiking, helicopter adventuring or whatever your day has entailed in this area/ and the price was right (we had a twin room sharing the shower and toilet facilities which were all clean). It’s also a two second walk to the Main Street of town with all the amenities, businesses and restaurants. The mountain view backdrop is also lovely. Cannot recommend highly enough! 

Also unrelated to here- but the local convenience store sells homemade breakfast burgers for a fraction of the price of the cafe made by one of the employees and they are simply fab!

We have stayed a total of 14 places during our travels and this one TOPS them all!!! Thank you Team at Ivory Towers - Fox Glacier - you do us kiwis proud! 
Amazing facilities, over and above customer service and our all-time favourite for our recent road trip around the South Island. This place is EXTRAordinary and I encourage all of you who experience the hospitality and all things Ivory Towers Backpackers to tell them what an outstanding job they are doing... 

STAY HERE and you too will be WOWED! 

I arrived at Fox Glacier just before 4pm and left at 8am the next morning, so I didn’t have a lot of time there. The one thing I wanted to do was go to Lake Matheson to see the reflections of Mt Cook and Mt Tasman in the water at sunset. Only problem was, I didn’t have a car or any way of getting there on my own.

When I mentioned this to the hostel owner (I think?) upon check in, he said offered one of his bikes for me to take, and I managed to make it there in time for a beautiful sunset!

This ended up being an absolute highlight and I couldn’t have done it without the generosity of the hostel owner. Despite the short time I had in Fox Glacier, he really helped make it unforgettable!

The place itself was lovely. Kitchen was spacious, my room was cosy and warm, and the shower was excellent. If I could, I’d go back to Fox Glacier just to stay at Ivory Towers again!

We stayed post-COVID-lockdowns, so it was very quiet which suited us perfectly. 

We were able to arrive prior to check-in time and were welcomed warmly by the staff. The kitchen/lounge facilities are extensive, the bed was comfortable and everything was neat and clean.

Fine for a night

Thank you! Lovely hospitality. Cozy and warm room, nice queen bed, nice bathroom, super kitchen, and- even more magical- a soak we looked forward to. There’s nothing like a hot tub under the southern cross and punga. Prices were extremely reasonable. Cute posters and nice touches. Quiet, warm, and comfortable. A super way to recover from some hard tramping.

Great second stay

Friendly and efficient checkin sorted out our 'walkup' enquiry and got us a family room after a long day on the Welcome Flat track. Very comfortable and a lot of amenities - with a good choice of room options. Our family room had beds for 5 and wifi was good on multiple devices,

Walk-in kiwiana result

Great place, we received a warm welcome, it was super clean and tidy, cozy beds. Kitchen was well stocked and there is a nice sitting area and tv lounge, didn't use the hot tub it was a pretty busy night. Would definitely recommend and stay here again.

Fantastic stay

I really enjoyed staying here, staff are very friendly and helpful, the beds are comfy and there’s a really big kitchen area. Also we got a full spread of free desserts and wines over Christmas :) Recommend!

Good stay

This is a lovely hostel, the staff were all brilliant and I met so many interesting people here. The bed was the comfiest I've slept in on my whole trip! There is a huge kitchen with free spices and herbs! The lounge has a real fire which gave the whole place a warm and cosy feeling and there is a separate TV room with Sky tv (where I was able to watch Game of Thrones!!). There is also a hot tub and sauna, which I didn't actually use, but it was a really nice touch! This is one of the nicest hostels I've stayed in and Fox Glacier, is a charming town with very friend locals. I had such a nice experience here and I would definitely recommend this hostel to anyone visiting Fox Glacier!

Lovely homely hostel with amazing beds and showers

Unexpected and unplanned stop on our NZ trip and.not disappointed. Staff super helpful and cheery. Rooms are basic and adequate for purpose, hot tub too which is a little perk. Good size games room.and tv room and larger kitchen too. All in all we were happy
