Our family has stayed at this hotel on a couple of occasions when visiting family in Utrecht. Apparently, there was a recent change in ownership of the hotel. The new owner is trying to renovate and expand, but it is still a nice and quaint place. The staff is very, very nice and helpful. The rooms are clean and the breakfast is excellent (the chocolate sprinkles were a hit with our kids!). The location of the hotel is also good -- shops and restaurants within walking distance, a supermarket across the street. Buses stop in front of the hotel and take you downtown in 10 minutes. All in all, a great place to stay!

Very nice and helpful staff!

Very friendly and helpful people , clean rooms with daily cleaning service .
Bus stop right infront of the hotel and some stores nearby .
With the bus its less then 5 minutes from the city and market .

great hotel

I was pleasantly surprised after reading the reviews on here. Yes, the room I was staying in was pretty small - and the toilet/ separate wash room were tiny. But everything was clean, the bed was very comfortable, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. 
The breakfast deal for 1 euro was pretty good - not sure it's worth 7 euro to buy on the day, but if you have a chance to order in advance it's excellent value. 
I don't think the noise was particularly bad given that it's clear from google maps that the hotel is on a main street, but I was glad I'd brought ear plugs. 
Very convenient for shops and the centre of town, and just a short walk from the central station. Wifi was first rate - I was even able to Skype home. 
If a really nice hotel is important to you, I'd give this a miss, but if you're just looking for a comfortable bed somewhere clean and will settle for 'pleasant', this does the job.

Cheap and comfy bed in Utrecht

This is a great hotel in Utrecht, it was clean, comfortable and very friendly. My single room was small but was warm and had the most comfortable bed I have slept in for a long time. The location was ok, it wasn't a very long walk to Centraal station and there were shops, cafes and restaurants close by. The breakfast was pretty good and there was tea and coffee in the lobby at all times. The Internet was slightly slow but free. Parking is difficult at times being in the centre of the city but there are plenty of small side streets that are ok to park in if you find a space. Reception are very helpful in explaining where to find a space. My only slight criticisms are that the hotel was slightly noisy at night and the shared shower room door would not lock which does make it hard to shower! 

Cheap, clean and comfortable. 

It seems there is an old Beurs hotel round the corner which the taxi dropped us off at but after walking round it turns out be a nice place friendly staff and clean we did book it because of the 23:00 check out however after getting a knock at 12:30 asking why we hadn't checked out and having to show the booking confirmation I would make sure your prepared to leave at normal checkout times. They were kind enough to honour the booking which after a big night out we were very grateful. Overall a good stay thankyou

Nice hotel

Don't go to this hotel expecting luxury but also don't be scared away by the comments in other reviews. This hotel provides acceptable reasonably priced accommodation for a short trip. It is located in a quiet neighborhood outside of Utrecht's tourist district. There are several restaurants, bakeries and a grocery store nearby. The public transport bus stop is in front of the hotel. The front desk staff is very helpful and speak English. My single room with shared bath was adequately sized and had a modern television and a small terrace. Wi-Fi was free and it worked well. There are several drawbacks however:This hotel is not within walking distance of the train station nor the tourist district. Despite the comments in other reviews, the hotel does not hide this fact. It should not come as a surprise to anyone. Heed the advise provided on the hotel's website and take bus #1 from the station. Also, the staircases are narrow and steep. Towels are not provided.  The shared bathroom are small but functional. Breakfast is not free.

Good, inexpensive hotel

We booked this place purely on the basis of price and location (near a meeting we had in the morning) so did not expect or even want much. After reading the other three reviews I might have wanted to cancel, but we figured "how bad can it be?".  In fact, it's not terrible--the receptionist was very friendly and the location is not too far from the centre, and our room was fairly clean and serviceable--but it's also not "fantastic". The room was so small that we had little room for manoeuver if either of us needed to pass the other to get, say, to the bathroom. Apropos of which, the bathroom and separate toilet are easily the smallest I've ever seen, so small in fact that the toilet would be unusable by anyone much taller than I am (183cm) since the door is right in front of the bowl. Also, the stairs to the rooms are the narrowest I've seen (perhaps designed to prevent rogue clowns from invading??). But, all in all, if you need a cheap bed in Utrecht, this is worth considering. 

Look, it's a cheap hotel, so whaddaya expect??

If you do not mind a long walk from the train station, incredibly steep and narrow stairs, a smelly bathroom,a mattress so hollow and soft that enfolds you like a taco and loud guests slamming doors in the middle of the night, you'll enjoy the place.

Ah, forget the wifi in the rooms. Only available in the lobby and perhaps in the main building.
The staff was friendly enough, although nothing could be done to change the dreadful mattresses and bed bases.

Overpriced and with worn out mattresses

We booked this hotel using a popular hotel booking platform. I informed them earlier that, I would be late and will reach around 11:00 PM. When we arrived there around 11:00 PM, we found that, there was no English speaking person available - but that, was alright. The surprising thing was, the hotel was booked. Then, I called the cell phone of the owner of the hotel "Fabian" - he said that, I have no booking and his hotel was full. I know that, this can't be true. The thing is, there was a fair going on during that time in Utrecht, and he double sold our room. 

However, I called the customer support of the booking company and talked about it. He said that, I indeed have the booking and will call the hotel owner. After half an hour, that hotel owner Fabian told us that, he will call a taxi for us and it will take us to a hotel called "Hotel Chao". He also said that, he talked with the hotel. When, we went there with a taxi, we found no-one talked to them and that hotel is also booked. 

Imagine our position in a place where we don't know anything in the middle of the night in cold and uncertainty. 

It was a complete nightmare for us as!

A nightmare to say the least!

Avoid this place. I checked in at 23.15 and they charged 15 EUR extra for late night check-in. The staff at the reception spoke almost no English. The room was really cold, the window was open (in February) and it took quite long time to warm this room up.
