Due to circumstances, we had to travel in separate cars. We much appreciated that they allowed us to park both our cars at the holiday home. The town of Oosterhout is lovely, a perfect example of a town in the Provence of Noord Brabant that has preserved its historic town centre. The bicycle rental scheme at Katjeskelder deserves nothing less than 5 stars. The bikes are well-maintained and of top notch quality. Dutch sturdiness and yet a light and nimble ride. Our two children aged 8 and 10 and my wife and I explored the area on the rental bikes, absolutely happy with that part. Cost of bike rental was very fair for what you’re getting in return. For those who are into it, e-bikes and electrical mopeds are available too. 

The playgrounds are great and there is a hard court football pitch. 

Each home has its own patio and it’s a good call that no two patios face one another, so that you have some privacy or at least, don’t have noisy neighbours and their barbecue right in your face. 

The state of the home itself was disappointing. Very. We have done a fair bit of travelling and generally don’t mind it much if accommodations are in need of a touch of paint here and there. But there is no excuse for what looks to be poor maintenance and cleanliness. Some of the electrical sockets were in need of repair and looked unsafe to use. The shower came with plain dirty tiles (the kind of dirt that’s clearly been there for some time), grubby corners, built up dust and grime. It reminded me of the privately rented shared student accommodations from the 90’ties where no one cared about the communal areas and shared facilities. We chose to do some strategic cleaning ourselves instead of the inconvenience of having to relocate or getting cleaners in after you have moved in. 

The hand rail by the stairs felt sticky of kitchen grime and grease. The kitchen appliances were in decent working order, but clearly an example of ad-hoc and patchwork approach to it all. My children visited someone else’s home and were in awe of how much nicer their home was. Considering the amount we paid for a 2-week stay, we were unable to rate the accommodation any more favourably than 2 stars. The on-site swimming pool was average. During our stay they were operating a policy allowing use of the on-site swimming pool only once during one’s stay. We hadn’t come across that one before. Again, disappointing for what you pay. 

On balance, a 3-star rating is fair, but for what we paid, a 4-star experience is a reasonable expectation. I doubt that we will be a returning customer anytime soon. 

Hardly a 3-star experience for 4-star price 

When you pay this kind of money for a park with trampolines, you don't expect that you need to pay an additional amount for the trampolines. Also the kids were exposed to gambling machines when they were having an activity (it was kind of an exception, so in general this was OK). The house where we were in was not clean (zilvervisjes en een pui die niet fatsoenlijk meer open kon), you could not only see it was not clean but also smell it.... Not great for the price.

Less than expected

We spend here the weekend for the birthday of grandfather. We were with 14.
Yes they have houses for such size of groups. That is 
For the rest the park is very outdated. The houses are old and so in the furniture.
The beds and matrasses are horrible.
The house itself was clean. The kitchen lack power sockets. There are only 4 but 8 pieces of equiptment which need them. 
There are large groups staying there with lots of noice. The houses are so close to each other that you are sitting on each other lap.
The swimming pool is ok but crowed. The play grounds are old.
We had diner in the restaurant. The service team clearly can not handle bigger groups. The place is noicy and small. It took ages to get the drinks. The food is decent but not special.
We have been to landal and Dormio locations last year and they were much better and modern.
All in all the last time we have been to a Roompot park. 

Last time ever

I have stayed in this holiday park for 2 weeks. the first thing that I noticed is that the park is completely full of polish seasonal workers. This is not a pleasant feeling when entering the park. 

when we came to the accommodation we saw that it's dirty and unclean. Remainders of food of the previous tenants were still there. 

On the website it was stated that there was a Smart TV and a Steam shower. The Smart tv wasn't there and the Steam shower wasn't working. 

We paid for a end cleaning 75EUR and a deposit of 65EUR. in the end the kept 50% of the deposit without giving any explanation about it. After contacting the customer service they provided information that the because the dishwasher wasn't emptied they took 50%!!! of the deposit. Just incredible. Also the TV's in the bedrooms are so small that if you want to watch TV from bed you would need a binoculars to be able to see it. 

I would not recommend anybody to go to any Roompot Holiday parks since it will not provide that they offer.

Bad accommodation and unclean rooms. Never again!

A spacious set up bungalowpark in a forest area. Houses are nice with all necessary commodities.
Our house had a bathroom for each of the bedrooms.
Clean, any complaints got speedily corrected.
Park has a swimming pool, creational area with bar and supermarket.
Short distance drive from the town of Breda and "de Biesbosch" nature area.

A good place for a family holiday

I want to explicitly discourage you to go this Roompot de Katjeskelder. The apartment was not up to level (read: filthy and old) and the staff was unwilling to cooperate with our situation

After the message from Het Algemeen Dagblad about holiday homes (that they were extremely unhygenic), we kind of stressed out. This stress turned out to be fully grounded. The refrigerator was filthy inside, frames and cabinets were covered in dust, toilets were poorly cleaned, dishes were not clean and there were stains on the bedsheets we had paid for. We called the reception, but it was not available. Because it was already late in the evening, we decided to let it go and we cleaned the house ourselves.

The bathrooms on the 1st floor had no shower so we had to shower with 12 people in the bathroom on the first floor, which is a challenge I can tell you. The sauna that was included with the cottage was also badly outdated and barely warm. The rooms were small and very noisy. I could hear everything that was said outside and the curtains in the bedroom were just for decoration as it did not stop any sunlight, making it quite light at half past seven.

To my surprise and anger I did not get my deposit back (115 euros) afterwards because we apparently forgot to empty the dishwasher (which was clean) and remove the bed covers. I called the Katjeskelder but they give themselves the exclusive right to determine whether the room is clean enough and I can say goodbye to my deposit.

I can tell you that I will never enter a foot at this park again and I advise you to think twice if you want to visit this park.

Unpleasant surprise

We occupied one of the larger cottages, with a total of 9 people. It was a family thing. The park was maintained OK, I guess. The house was a little old, but clean-ish. Some of the villas are very close to other houses too! We were lucky to have a private garden around the back, a lot of the houses have their terrace right at the front; where the cars park. The reception staff was very nice when there was an issue with some missing sheets. They got us the Wi-Fi for free! (Which should be free anyhow, IMHO).The swimming pool is cute but way too small for the size of the park.The woods surrounding the park are easily accessed and beautiful. All in all, if you don`t expect luxury, the Katjeskelder could be a nice choice; especially with little kids.
