Even though there was really only 1 English speaker (sort of), that made it harder, but better too (who needs English anyway!)  The staff were so friendly and accommodating and even one night I wanted a coffee and the restaurant was closed and one of the staff walked to a nearby restaurant and brought it back to me!  Breakfast was simple, but good.  The taxi driver they supplied ended up being my driver the whole time and was so helpful and friendly!!  The room was wonderful, clean.  I had a minor issue with the shower backing up, but it was fixed promptly.  I can't wait to go back.  I traveled solo (female, 40s) and felt at ease and safe.  The butterflies and waterfalls were just as dreamy as I hoped if not more.

I hope to stay here every year!

We loved this hotel.  Now there are 2 of them across the street from each other.  The one we stayed at was what I believe was the newer one and had the fighting roosters and chickens out back.  Don't worry, even thought they are noisy if you close your window you can't hear them.  We had rooms on that back side, so I know.  My room was on the 2nd floor (which was actually the 3rd floor, the 1st floor was reception area and eating area). 

They don't serve breakfast until 8am or shortly after, so if you plan to get an early start on your site seeing, keep that in mind.  

The staff was great and very helpful, courteous and happy.   We seemed to have a constant issue though with our room keys constantly being deactivate and they said it was because it was put next to a cell phone or some other kind of metal.  Not 100% sure that is what was going on, since I always had my room card in my back pocket away from any metal or cell phone and it still somehow was deactivated.  This was a daily occurrence.  That really was the only issue.  They had great suggestions for food places, and this one is just a few buildings down from it that had great food: "Lo de Hoy".  If you come out of the newer Maria Fernanda Inn and go right, its before the next cross street on the right).

Very nice Hotel and good location

The room here was amazing. The hotel itself was super clean and modern with all the comforts you wouldn’t expect. 
This is one of the cheapest places to stay in the area but turned out to be one of the most luxurious we had stayed in for some time, but still not really out of our budget range.
The staff where a bit timid and unhelpful, but also available 24-7. Breakfast strictly starts at 7, and not a minute earlier.

Would stay again, as a stop to see the Mariposa Monarcas.

Amazing hotel, average staff

Zitacuaro is not the kind of town you normally end up in.  When we were there we did not see a single other tourist.  We checked out other hotels that were recommended by guides and the choices were terrible.  We walked past Maria Fernanda and immediately thought it would be a good choice.  Even from the outside it looks new, clean, and modern.  The location is close to the main street and walking distance to the bus terminal.  

We paid 600 pesos a night (expensive for the area) but staying here is a real haven.  The apartment had two bedrooms.  One with a queen bed and the other with two twin beds.  Both had nice furniture, comfortable beds, and flat screen TVs.  The dining room had a glass table for 6 and a futon that could be used as an additional bed.  There is a kitchen with microwave, large fridge, stove but very little pans or utensils.  There is also a area to hand wash clothes which was very useful after hiking up dirt paths to see butterflies!  And last but not least the bathroom was very modern, good water pressure, and had numerous amenities (even a shoe polish cloth).  The wifi worked well on a macbook but not on an ipad.  

Overall this was a perfect escape in a working city.  It's worth the price.  It made our time in the city fantastic!
