I was here last summer (2018, it doesn't let me select it) and it was my first solo travelling experience. I was really scared at first but the staff and other people staying at the hostel made me feel welcome. The interior decor was unique and quirky and the rooms were clean. I still think about it sometimes and I will definitely come back one day.

Top location and friendly staff. Cool place to live and have fun. Special thanks to Gio, Alexandra and Bailey for great hospitality and friendship you have shown to me, I will never forget the time I spent at your place.

Came here after 3 nights of partying in st julien to get some rest and focus on tourist sites. 

Beautifully decorated, clean and amazing staff. I made some great friends and really enjoyed my 4 nights. 

Close to the airport bus, close to a supermarket. I am very satisfied with my stay.

Hostel Jones is a superb place to stay. Hippie decorations, cool backyard, close to the beach, shops, bus stations and sliema harbour, very friendly and helpful staffs. The whole environment felt like a family. If you are lucky enough, you will be able to meet the Lady Melisandre or the Red Woman from Game of thrones although she goes by the name "Gio" in Jones. She is very good at hiding her identity 😂 At the reception, you will find a beautiful and very charming young lady Aida working 😊. Only bad things, you have to mop the floors yourself after shower and the beds are little old and dusty.

From the very first moment I entered the hostel , I already knew I am gonna like this place. I am not sure what was the main reason I felt so good and comfortable there - is it about great and helpful staff or maybe nice arrangement or the atmosphere?
 I've met a lot of interesting people from all over the world. It was nice to spend time with them in the garden, cook together and talk. What is also cool about this place is location. One of my favourite spot on the Island was 3 minutes walk from hostel Jones (cat place near promenade!!) <- Really reccomend to go there and chill. I would definitely come back there! 
PS: Special thanks to Paul and Baily from the staff. They were really kind, did a good job and most important ,made me feel there like second home :)

For a weeks holiday that turned into a month, hostel Jones is a magical place to call home while busying about Malta and Gozo. 
Fantastic, quirky, artistic and crazy bunch of tenants, residents, visitors and travellers. 
Never a dull moment and staff are always willing to help and or take part in any activity. Dinners, fires on the beach or just relaxing watching a film. 
Bring a good spirit, your own special personality and enjoy. 
Hostel Jones is a second home to any one who comes.

My very first and wonderful hostel experience

Very positive experience!

Perfect, friendly hospitable getaway hostel to stay and travel Malta.

Before this time, when I was there for a while they had a dog inside. Dog hair was all over the sofa and chairs. When I mentioned it to the owner, nicely as a guest who is suprised, he replied coldly: ''If it bothers you then you shouldn't be in the hostel''. So unprofesional and kind of rude. This cat now is cute, less messy than dog.  Employees are ok.
Could be cleaner than it is but still OK.
The interior is spacious and artistically decorated.
But, I have to say- the owner is M ...... addict.  Sometimes you see him very early in the morning taking his morning dose of pleasure with his legs stretched out in the chair next to, without T-shirt. When you tell him ''Is it too early for that kind of pleasure'', he replies ''Not too early, why''.  He is positive, but he always looks at you with lost eyes as a consequence of the 'Stuff'. It is your business man but doing that in front of other people inside hostel...come on.
It is not legal yet, so it is not responsible to do that in front of others.

I chose this hostel because the reviews were generally very positive, and the location was great. However, my own experience is not the very best. I arrived at the hostel and in general it looked alright - the level of cleanliness was not perfect and I wouldn't want to keep any food in the kitchen. When I went to bed at night, I could sense the roaches around me, and only to confirm this I stepped on one the very next morning. I kept encountering several cockroaches in the my room, the showers etc. When I informed the staff, they simply responded with "welcome to Malta". I did not encounter a single one in the other hostel or air bnb I stayed at in Malta, and speaking to others this is not something that was common in other hostels/hotels either. There was also some really weird and creepy worm crawling up the shower drain one day
The hostel has a cute cat. However, not every guest fancies to have a cat jump up in their bed during the night or in the morning. You had to pay extra for the air con, if it even worked. 

I was very lucky to meet some great people at the hostel. But we all agreed that we would not return to the hostel, and that the conditions in general were poor. I would book another hostel if I was to return to Malta.

Lovely people, horrible hostel

The female manager was a total nightmare. She has no manors and no capabilities in dealing with people, let alone dealing with guests. She was literally never there and when she rarely appeared she was totally stressed because she had lost the plot of what was going on in the hostel, she didn't know which new guests had checked in and which ones had left. After having stayed 3 days and nights at the hostel and although she had been the one who had checked me in, she stood up of all of a sudden from her dinner table ( she only came to the hostel in order to eat!!!) and without saying sorry or any introduction sentence to what she wanted to ask me, she just came to me and ask abruptly: "You are leaving tomorrow, have you paid for your stay?" I was quite baffled by this lack of tact from a so-called "manager"! I breathed in deeply to take some time to answer. I told her she had checked me in and knew at my arrival that I had paid before via Booking.com and that I was only leaving 2 days later. she nodded and without saying anything further disappeared as abruptly as she had addressed me! This woman is definitely doing the wrong job. The only reason the administrative side of things at the hostel was working, was due to the commitment of 2 french and a polish guy who where actually there to take care of the cleanliness. I guess my evaluation of the hostel would have been much better if this place had another Manager who would do their job.

The Female Manager was never there. she ought to be fired.

I've read so many reviews and imagine my surprise when I arrived - complete shock..... Honestly, I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. But in all fairness, I've tried to make a list of positive and negative things:

Positives:
1) people were quite friendly in the hostel
2) beds were sturdy. I'm rather tall and curvy girl and slept in the top bunk bed. didn't have much issues with it
3) you can get a towel if you haven't brought one. but you need to ask for it
4) there's an AC - BUT you need to pay to get it - €3 for 3 hrs and if you have someone in your room that is TOO cold but won't open the windows, you can't breath through the night. but that's just unlucky....

Negatives:
1) even when you give your estimated arrival, checkin isn't till 3pm. So if you arrive earlier, you have no change. if you beg nicely you can leave your luggae but its unsecured as they don' thave locker keys till 3pm either
2) the place is OLD and HAS NOT been maintained. Honestly, common areas need deep cleanning, vacuum and scrub.
3) fridge is MINGY. smelled REALLY bad and needed the same deep cleaning mentioned already. didn't keep anything but water there
4) there's no water pressure in bathrooms and half of the lights aren't working. so you end up showering and doing your business in the dark or waiting for 1 upstairs bathroom with the window. and it was DIRTY. flip flops are a must, toilet use is for necessities but try restaurants instead
5) main lady was either a hipp or she looked like she was stoned half of the time. honestly, it was difficult to find her
6) you don't have sockets everywhere - only 1 set of bunkbeds had extension cords and it wasn't mine. So I had to either leave my phone on the floor through the night to get charged or badly stretch my charger and ask the person below me if I can use one of theirs (which also didn't work very well)
7) finally - those lovely pictures of the terraces - forget them. the top 2 terraces were permamently closed with a padlock. can't go in. and the downstairs one could use another deep clean I keep mentioning (does anyone know what the broom is?) and tons of paint. pictures of this one (with buddha) must have been from at least 10 years ago..
