While the quaint building was left as it was, the interior was newly renovated, including the bathroom and other water facilities, making it easy to use, and the area around the bed was clean.However, there were two staff members, one of whom seemed to be a new employee, and she kept asking the other staff member who was checking me in what she couldn't do herself., and continued to talk  about their job with other staff member when I drunk in the cafe, which was inappropriate and unpleasant behavior in front of guests. I would like to add that other one wasn't at fault in this case.

quiet stay here at KAMP, definitely nothing social about this hostel. Bar downstairs is quiet, great location to the city most things walkable

I really enjoyed staying here - the building style and layout was cool and creative, and I liked the bar/music element. Dozens of restaurants and shops were right around the corner - it was a cool area to explore. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. The only thing I would note, is that the room I stayed in was not very easy to keep warm. For the duration of my stay, I had the heater on full, which was only just able to get the room to a comfortable temperature (was there in winter). Other than that though, I would definitely recommend staying here!

This is a very average hostel.Positives:--Right by a shopping street so lots of food options nearby.--Very clean, including the bathrooms.--There is a nice bar/cafe located in the same building.--The AC in the bunkroom worked well and the beds were comfortable.  I got great sleep here.--10 minute walk to Okayama Station.Negatives:--Towels cost 200 yen to rent, which seems silly.  Every other hostel I've stayed in provides towels for free.--The bunkroom is a little cramped, and I did not feel there was enough storage room for luggage. Overall I thought it was a very average hostel experience.  I would stay here again as it is cheap and in a good location.

Super cozy hostel

So as a general rule, I'll give any hostel/hotel 3 stars if I can at least sleep. Even if my experience is bad, as long as I can sleep, the hostel/hotel has provided it's primary function and has at least earned 3/5 stars.

This place failed at the only thing I was looking for.

For context, I was only in Okayama for one evening. We came in on the Shinkansen to go to a friend's birthday party. We were leaving the next morning. The ONLY thing I needed from the hostel was a bed. I didn't need a common space, I didn't need activities, I really didn't even need the shower, I just needed a place to put my head after a night of drinking, I required nothing else from them. My review is entirely based on one thing: my ability to sleep.

That bed/room had a couple of problems:

1. Bed height. As with most dorms, the beds were bunked. This is normal and I expect that. Was was unexpected for me was the inability to sit up on the lower bunk. It was incredibly claustrophobic (for someone who doesn't really suffer from claustrophobia). It also made organizing my stuff difficult because I couldn't sit and managed my things. If the beds were 4 inches higher, my experience would have been improved. I don't even know how they managed to get bunk beds that were so small. 

2. Air Con. It's Japan. In July. It's hot and humid. Aircon is a necessity. Unless someone is absolutely used to this climate, they need aircon to sleep. The aircon in the room didn't work. It was so miserably hot that I couldn't sleep.

3. Mold. I have a mold allergy. Most buildings in a wet climate will have some kind fo mold growth, so I take antihistamines to be able to breathe normally. It's fine as long as there's not a major mold problem. The dorm room had a major mold problem. Even with an extra dose of antihistamines, I still couldn't breathe. I eventually left the hostel about 3 hours before I was planning to (largely for this reason). After being outside for all of 5 minutes, my nose cleared and I was able to breathe normally. My girlfriend complained of a sore throat after that night, which also cleared up within an hour of being outside. This is why I wished I just slept outside.

4. The price. At 3000 yen, I expect a hell of a lot more than that garbage. That's a ton of money for a hostel in a nothing town (seriously, Okayama isn't all that interesting, and hostels in downtown Tokyo run for 3000/night). In Hiroshima (where I live and which is more interesting), a decent hostel can go for 2500 a night, so I don't know what this place is doing. If you going to charge me 30 bucks to sleep, I want to actually be able to sleep.

Literally the only thing I asked of that hostel was a bed. I needed nothing but a bed from them. I asked nothing of this place and THEY STILL DISAPPOINTED ME. I tried to sleep for about 4 hours, and eventually gave up. I waited in the common room for another 3 hours (for the first Shinkansen to start running so I could go home). After a quick shower (in a shower room that flooded), I headed out. I got home a couple hours later and immediately fell asleep.

I'm writing this review at 3 am the next day. I'm up at this time because my sleep cycle was entirely messed up by this hostel. I really regret staying there. It was a 2/5 review until it literally messed up my ability to sleep the night after I stayed there. I would have had a better time sleeping outside of the train station, and I genuinely wish I had.

The atmosphere of the coffee/restaurant downstairs was great. I had a delicious chicken curry and a local beer. All of the staff were wonderful, even when I managed to oversleep the checkout time......they were really understanding and let me pack my stuff without putting stress on me.
Everything was clean and there were enough showers and toilets. If you wanted to relax you could use the common are where there was a fridge, microwave and more. The beds are comfortable and there is a lamp and plugs.

There were not enough lockers, unfortunately all of them were being used when I was there.
The walls are pretty thin, even though I used ear plugs I could still hear the people from the room next door.

Friendly staff and nice atmosphere!

Clasic backpacker shared dorm, very clean, and nice common area with kitchen. Great location next to station and walking distance to main atraction. Bar with special discount for guest and cultural activities.

Very nice backpackers style

Tidy and clean place. Not close to JR station but acceptable. The instruction on hostel website talk about the Access to hostel not the shortest rote.
