We stayed for 6 nights in February and it was fabulous.  Naoko is a fantastic host and made us feel very welcome.  Service was exceptional and we loved everything about our stay at AlpBach. Breakfast was amazing and it was so nice to have a beautiful meal served as opposed to buffet in many other places. The evening meal was a superb 3 course meal and there was a lovely selection of wines available to purchase. The lounge area is beautiful and has a lovely relaxing atmosphere around the fire. The lodge is well located with only a very short walk (2 mins) to the ski slope where you can ski down to catch the lift. In the afternoon you can ski very close and then just a short walk back to the lodge. Wifi is free and very fast.  We chose this place on the reviews and they were spot on.  Highly recommended.

Fabulous

We stayed at the Alp Bach for 4 nights and everything was absolutely perfect. It’s a 9 room boutique type lodge that’s very warm and comfortable. All the self contained rooms are on the top floor and look down onto a comfortable lounge area that has an open canopy fireplace. The lounge and dining areas have soft classical music playing that sets a incredibly calm atmosphere throughout. Naoko who speaks better English than she believes runs the hotel and does everything including the cooking with the help of her daughter. Her food is magnificent and set in a fine dining setting. We’ve experienced some of our best meals in Japan here. It’s so different to what we are used to when we are on our annual ski trips. You can ski straight down to the lifts in the morning from across the road and providing the winds blowing the right way you can ski home without walking. 

We loved this place

Naoko san and Mr Ninja (her husband) were great hosts, accommodating our family's every need with care and delight. 
The house is beautiful and you can tell it is their pride and joy. They look after it well. It is located just across the slopes of Madarao Kogen ski resort. It was such a joy to sit by the fire after a hard day's skiing!
We stayed 4 nights and had dinner and breakfast for all nights, which was nice as we didn't have to worry about getting warm again to go out to dinner. It is all western food, with dinner a full course meal! A nice change for us having spent the previous 2 weeks having authentic Japanese cuisine.... Needless to say,  the food was as great as the hospitality!

Lovely chalet at Madarao

Naoko and family, including puppy Axle,made our 10 night stay a memorable one! Service was exceptional and around the clock. Room was very clean and serviced regularly, common areas where also very comfortable and beautifully decorated. Wonderful big breakfasts and delicious evening meals available. We had a car to get around otherwise location is good for ski in and out but not to limited town dining choices. Next time bring on the powder please !!

Fabulous stay

We stayed at Alp Bach in February 2015 for 4 nights.
It feels more like a lodge, with comfortable lounges around the open fire.
The food was excellent, and plentiful.
The cost of the wine was very reasonable, and good quality.
Naoko was so helpful, Axel is very cute and well behaved.
The discount lift tickets were a welcome surprise.
The rooms were comfortable, and more than adequate.
The location was on the edge of town, but as we had a car, it did not worry us, and Naoko did drive some guests into town for dinner.
It is across the road from the ski-field, so very convenient. And the wifi was excellent.
Strongly recommended.
Madarao is more a boarder paradise, than a skiers, especially if you love those tree runs!
