This guesthouse is a great place to stay in Himeji, Really good location, close to the castle, walk-able from the train station. Owners are very accommodating and the public spaces are fun to hang out in. The place has a hippy atmosphere, so it may not work for everyone. We absolutely loved it.  Colorful paintings on the walls, musical instruments, peace flags and wonderful guests from all over the world. We highly recommend this guesthouse. 

This was one of my best experiences with guest houses. I came very late in the evening and I had no reservation, but they gave me a bed and were super nice. Although the next evening we all went out eating ramen in a friend's ramen shop. The whole atmosphere was so friendly and family like. I felt like being in a big family and enjoying the short time. Although the guesthouse was very cool: there was paintings on all the walls and the built the beds on their own. I think it's a very good guest house and hope to find a chance to come there again. 

混雑している姫路城へ朝一番で見学するために泊まりました。
お城に近いので夜の姫路城のライトアップも楽しめました。（美しいです）
お部屋は2段ベッド4人泊まれる部屋でした。
荷物を置く十分なスペースがなくスーツケースをベッドの中に入れているようでした。
古い建物ですのでお風呂はシャワーのみで寒かったり、洗面所は水しか出ず、外にあるような状態なので寒さに弱い人は要注意です。
トイレは男女共同　
共用スペースにはコーヒー、お茶が用意され　ポット・冷蔵庫もあります。
近くにコンビニがないので（歩いて10分ぐらい行かないとない）
駅周辺で食事は調達しておいた方がいいと思います。
共用スペースは薄い壁で仕切られているだけなので夜遅く使用されると響いて寝れません。
私の場合は他の宿泊客にそのように説明をし、お静かにしてくれましたが
人によってはトラブルを招くこともあるので
オーナー側で「２２時以降は使用しないように」などルールを設けても良いかと思います。
若いオーナーさんはとても気さくで良い人でした。
お宿からお堀を歩いてのお城散策はじっくり風情を味わえます。

It very close to Castle, so also to see night view beautiful Castle.
There is  fridge , electric pot and some green tea, coffee set.
I recommend to get some food and drink on the way to hostel,
becouse there is no  convenience store near by.
And we have to be quiete during the night for other guest
becouse there is separated the room very thin wall which is very noicy someones chatting.

Very basic facilities but a nice place between to the two houses. Very friendly staff and good location. If you ask them, they will tell you the best places to go and such and are more than willing to help you out. Their English isn't brilliant but they do try.

Nice Guest House 

姫路城見学には最高の場所　Best Place to see Castle

Very friendly.

The Guest House Engakudou in Himeji can be succinctly described as reasonably priced and rustic. The toilets are ok, but the washing facilities are absolutely not up to date. Similarly, the shower is absolutely not up to date. A modernization of the sanitary facilities would be highly desirable. Comfort is a foreign word here, however  the simple design of the premises is not uninteresting. The Japanese host is very concerned about the welfare of his guests and you are welcome in his family. That really impressed me. There are more than 30 minute walk to Himeji Station. That's when you have heavy luggage, unacceptable. The white castle of Himeji is located about halfway to Himeji Station. Good restaurants can be found only in the vicinity of the station. Good souvenir shops you can find directly at Himeji Castle.
My conclusion: Who is an emphasis on comfort, is completely wrong here. One should rustic feel like if you stayed here.
